Kia stood on a tree and surveyed the land under her. It was a rather large tree, so she could see far. Thunder rumbled to the east, and she saw storm clouds looming over the horizon. Heh. Looks like rain. She thought. Rain drops began to fall, gently at first, than harder, until it was pounding the earth like a drum. Kia leaped off of her perch and spread her wings. Her favorite thing to do when it rained was soar through the air. Her wings seemed to repel water, so she could keep going without her wings getting wet and dragging her down.

Kira trudged along, her leather hood pulled snugly over her head. She had been traveling all day, and the storms had kept up with her. It looked like it was going to rain again soon, and the only thing that was worse than traveling was traveling wet.
The forest around her grew larger and older. The trees towered into the sky, and swelled to immeasurable widths. As she passed beneath a particularly large one, The sky flashed with lightening and she looked up. A silhouette was outlined against the sky, swings wide and soaring.

Dire shivered in the rain and pulled her cloak closer around her. The rain was beautiful to be sure, but it was also cold. And Dire hated the cold.
She continued wearily along her path until something on the ground caught her eye. Dire carefully picked up a small, dark feather. A bird..? She pondered, ...Or something far more powerful?

Kira continued along, the figure in the sky troubling her. She knew that these woods were inhabitable; that's why she was here now. Her last job hadn't gone so well, and the empire was on the lookout for her. She had thought that a few years laying low would help erase her from public memory.
She stopped when she heard something: the crackle of leaves. It was now doubly obvious that she wasn't alone. She could only hope that they were unaware of her presence.

Dire wasn't really thinking about where she was going. Just get out of this forest, and out of the cold... She hoped there weren't any thieves or bandits nearby. She was almost as bad at melee combat as she was at negotiating.

As Kira inched forward cautiously, her eyes fell on a stranger. The person was cloaked, and blended into the background easily because of the rain. It blurred the edges of the world. She hesitated, wondering if she should stay hidden or go forward.
A sudden streak of lightning hit a tree near her, and a loud pop deafened Kira. A limb hurtled to the ground. Unfortunely, right where Kira was standing. She leaped to the side to avoid being hit, but had revealed her located. Her only choice now was to go forward.
She brandished her hand and a sword of fire flamed into existence. "Who are you?"

Dire raised her hands over her head. "Halt, and put down your weapon! I am the Black Mage Dire, merely a wanderer. But I must ask, who are you? Travelers seldom come through this forest..."

Kira advanced slowly, her sword poised. It would be a sad day when she let her guard down in front of a stranger.
"I am no one, and that is precisely why I'm here." If this woman really was a black mage, she'd have her hands full. Those mages were always so feisty.

Dire tensed, feeling the immense power emanating from the woman in front of her. "Surely even one who is no one has a name..."
