I figure I might as well make the first tip ^^; I don't know if this only works for me, but I almost always write the choruses to songs first. To me, it makes it easier to mold the verses around the idea that you voiced in the chorus. That could just be me though. ^^;

When you write lyrics, be yourself. Write what you honestly want to write about and have pasion for it. Use your emotions and rip them out and write what you mean and sing it like you mean it. W/e is your lyrical style is what it says about you and your personal originality. Everything is based on philosophy.
