"Almost .. DONE!" Ace proudly held up the light paper with Kai's back piece on it. Of course, she still had to make the stencil, but this was the most important part of the whole bit. Other then that little, painful tattooing part .. right?

Shaking his head, Nate could help but laugh at Ace's enthusiasm. He knew how much music was apart of her life. s**t, she nearly s**t her pants when she found her favourite phrase/motto "Stay Gold" in a song on the radio. Or at least, a clipping of part of the movie. Regardless, music was her inspiration .. and her and this Kai character seemed to have a lot in common. At least when it came to opinions on men and fangirl-ism.

"When do you think she'll be here? We kind of told her to come whenever."

Nate shrugged, "Dunno. Probably today; it is the first day of the weekend, after all. Told her to come this weekend. She seemed pretty stoked about the back piece."

If he was right ..

Ace hurriedly ran off to put the final touches on the tattoo sketch.

It was a moment, an event really. The first vacation from Turn the Page in four years. Sure, she'd taken some days off here and there for vegging and recharging the batteries, but she'd never actually left the store completely. Like a mother hen afraid of leaving her roost, it was with equal parts glee and despair that Kaithala had departed from her beloved Seattle.

The plane trip down to Sacramento wasn't so bad, you know if you didn't count all the worrying and double checking of her figures for stocking and labor budgets for the store while she was away. It got to the point where she'd growled at her lap top and had the lady sitting next to her eyeing her wearily. Halfway through the trip she switched from her laptop to her Zune and let the "dulcet" tunes of Metallica take her cares away. Of course they supplied their own worries, mainly how she'd cope with a needle poking her several THOUSAND times. But it was too late to turn back now for her. This s**t was happening... period.

In Sacramento, she picked up her rented vehicle. a hot little red convertible. She'd asked for one specifically. If she was only going to take this one vacation she was damn well going to make it worth it. With trusty mapquest directions in hand, she made her way through the maze of the city to find her hotel. It, too, met her high standards of vacation, complete with lake sized bed and jacuzzi tub. With any luck she wouldn't be the only one using them over this trip...

Finally, she changed her top out for a backless halter and picked up her purse. It was time... god... she wasn't afraid of the needle... of course not...

It didn't take nearly as long as expected to get there and that did little to ease her nerves as she'd had less time to prepare. Taking a deep breath, Kai opened the door to the establishment and stepped into her future.

Nate was leaning up against the door frame from the "lobby" to the lounge; arms crossed, looking at Ace hurrying around the room, "Ace, babe. Simmer down!"

Ace hurried up to him, her eye level only meeting his chest. Stepping on her toes, she met his gaze .. well, his chin, "Well, sorry for being stoked about this epic ba--" They weren't the only two in the shop anymore. Oh, three. Ace tended to forget Nirvana whenever she was taking her nap. Quiet baby. Ace liked it.

"Kai?!" Ace grinned. She hoped it wasn't just a random walk-in, or else that'd be kind of embarrassing.

Already planning on different ways to cover her slip ("Oh! Kai actually means hello in .. Sacramentonian!"), she awaited her reply.

Yup, this was the place.

"Well I suppose that means I've made it." Kai grinned widely. Yeah, it was obvious even without the voice for confirmation that this was Ace. "Guessed it in one. I'm Kai, you must be Ace, I'm so happy to meet you in the flesh." Easily Kai stretched her hand, forcing it not to shake. She was still fighting off a bit of the nerves.

It was a nice place, the parlor was clean and there was the distinct sound of classic rock playing from somewhere. A very good sign. "I hope you don't mind me just dropping by like this. I suppose I should have called in first but I was just way too ******** excited to sit around at my hotel, however posh it may be."

She glanced over a the man leaning against the doorway. She assumed he would be Nate, but didn't bring it up. Would suck to embarrass herself right off the bat. "I'm a bit of dummy about the process so, hope you don't mind walking a dumb a** through it." She added cheerfully.

Ace was excited; this much was clear. She had gotten to work on the back piece immediately after the phone call. She even put her own back piece aside in the meantime, but was definitely itching to get back to it.

Extending her own hand, she shook Kai, "Definitely in the right place. Nice to finally get to meet you, too!" Ace was thankful she was in heels. Damn, she was short; Kai was a good half a foot taller than herself. Maybe I'm half dwarf .. why is everyone so much taller, damnit?!

Nate smirked and walked over. Extending his own hand towards Kai, he flashed a little bit of tooth, "So, you're the one Ace drew that epic Metallica back piece for." From the corner of his eye, he saw Ace fidget with excitement, "Well, for starters, we'll show you the concept sketch."

Taking the hint, Ace ran over to the table and grabbed the sketch. Returning, she slide through the two and placed it on the coffee table only a foot or two from them, "There! It doesn't look very tattered, but Nate can do that during the colouring process." Cocking her head to the side, she smiled, "I put the band in there that the Nazi's had. That can be optional, of course .. but the rest is exactly what you wanted. The puppeteer cross, the broken strings, the writing. All there."

Kai could be honest, she had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep from smiling too hard at Ace. She really hadn't expected the other woman to be so... small? Not that it was a bad thing, no sir, but it was a bit of a surprise. She had such a big personality, but then again sometimes it was just that way. Anyhow it didn't especially matter.

She shook Nate's hand and grinned. He was a handsome sort and it was in her blood to appreciate such matters. Still, she'd keep him off limits for the time being. That'd be just a little too complicated for her nice and easy way of life. "I am, I'm so excited about this. The little fan-girl in me goes 'squee' at the very idea of having a Metallica inspired tattoo." She laughed gently at herself. She could be such a putz sometimes.

The sketch Ace had done was beyond amazing. Beyond words really. It was exactly what she'd wanted and it didn't look silly or fangirlish, honestly if you didn't know the songs you'd have trouble knowing it was even Metallica inspired. "It's ******** amazing!" Kai exclaimed with obvious delight. "You're ******** amazing!" She added looking at Ace. "I do like the band idea, I hadn't even considered but that's great! Although, I probably wouldn't go so far as to put a swastika on it... hmmm... maybe the Metallica ninja star? You know the one I'm thinking of? Was on the discs for Load and Reload?"

Nate let out a chuckle, "Yeah, Ace here's the same way about her Journey tattoo. Only difference is, she went the lengths to get the song title and all. I didn't even know it was Metallica inspired until Ace s**t her pants at how epic of an idea it was."

Ace gave him a nasty look, but replaced it with a joking smile, "Okaaaaay there, tough guy. Don't complain. I altered it so I wouldn't use up all your precious ink."

"Not like you would anyways, midget." Nate lifted his leg in a slightly defensive pose.

Blocking Ace's swat; he was faster than she was, "We prefer to be called little people, thank you!" She wasn't actually a little person, but she was only 5' tall. She had met a little person once. The one from Pirates of the Caribbean, Marty Klebba. Yeah, she wasn't even a foot taller than him. He got a good kick out of it.

Glancing back to the sketch, Ace nodded, "Good, that kind of weirded me out. NOT going to lie." She smirked, "Nothing against Nazi's, it just seems like .. I dunno. A negative branding, that's all."

"You realize it also represents peace in different forms of Hinduism."

"Okay there, smartass." Ace rolled her eyes. She knew anything and everything there was to know about Hinduism and Buddism .. all thanks to him, "Anyways, I know what you're talking about! That'd be sick, for sure. You can even have the band just red if you wanted too. Either way would be ******** rad."

Her language was starting up; she was clearly excited.

"Oh well, I can say that I'm a little pleased that it wasn't so obvious. It was meant to be masked well, thought not like I won't blab about it to anyone who shows even the least bit curiosity in it." Kai laughed a bit at their banter. These were obviously two people extremely comfortable with each other and their affection showed easily under the surface. A great partnership from the looks of it. In an off handed manner she wondered if they were doing the horizontal tango...

"Hmm I didn't know that, about it being a symbol of peace in some religions. That's pretty interesting, but still I think I'd rather leave it out. Most probably aren't as open minded as you and I'd prefer to not have stones thrown at me while walking down the street." She said it with a laugh, mischief twinkling in her eye. "I think it'd be ******** rad to have the ninja star on there, give some more recognition to the band since they are the inspiration of it all."

Her eyes were glued to the sketch. It was more than she'd been hoping for and for the first time since walking into the place, her nerves began to abate. Yeah it'd hurt like a mother ******** to get done, but looking at what was to be, it was going to be ******** worth it.

"Well, what you wanted and what Ace came up with .. honestly, wouldn't have known! Good job masking it. But you seem pretty passionate about Metallica anyways, so I doubt masking it was a real issue." Nate smirked, "Also, if I didn't know what that tattoo was all about; swastika, I mean, and the whole peace symbolism, I'd probably just glare. But not throw stones." A playful smirk planted itself on his face.

Ace narrowed her eyes, "I'd throw rocks at Nate even if he didn't have it. WIN!" She picked up the sketch and looked from it to Kai, "Alright, looks to be about the same size. I'll go make up a stencil and we'll put it on, see if you like it, see if it fits nicely." In reality, they'd usually just compare sizes immediately. But Ace had drawn a sketch to match the proportions of an average female back. However, the tattoo called for a slight wrap around the edges, so it should fit perfectly!

As Ace ran off, Nate turned to Kai and smiled, "Nervous?" He couldn't but to ask, "You seem rather calm for someone getting a back piece for their first tattoo." He stopped, "Well, assuming this is your first." For all he knew, she could have had a tattoo on her butt.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:47 am

"Please," she said holding up a hand, "if you get me started talking about Metallica there's no telling when I may stop. We could be here until next Tuesday and I still wouldn't have shut up." Kai had the grace to chuckle at herself. "I just feel that a tattoo should have meaning beyond, 'Oh hey that looks cool.' Not that there's anything wrong with people who get them for only cosmetic purposes, that's just not my style."

Kai didn't really understand the whole business about stencils and what not, this being her first time and all, but she didn't have to tell Nate that. "Well I've got that beautiful rendition of the Titanic sinking on my a**, but other than that this'll be a new experience." She couldn't even hold the joke for a second and her face cracked and laughter slipped out. "Oh man, sorry I couldn't ******** pull it off. Nah, this will be my first tattoo. I was really ******** nervous on the way over and the plane trip down but the more I realize that this is exactly what I want the less nervous I get. I've come to the point where I can accept that it's going to hurt like a mother ********, but the results will hopefully be worth it."

And hell, it wasn't like she'd wasted the money of the plane trip, car rental, and hotel stay just to come down and leave without getting her ink. That alone could've very well pushed her over the edge into getting it. But above all it was pure undiluted want.

Nate couldn't help but laugh at her enthusiasm about Metallica, "They're a fantastic band. Ace plays them sometimes, but she mostly listens to Journey. Although, I've definitely heard a lot of Metallica throughout the last week. She likes to listen to music when she draws." A smirk. Ace had spunk, had passion for what she did, "You seem to be pretty passionate about this band and this tattoo. I like it!" He loved when someone had put so much thought, effort and time into something like this.

Face dropping a bit, Nate tried to bite back a smirk but when Kai laughed, he let out a deep chuckle, "I was about to say nice choice. I've actually got 'your name' tattooed on my a**." Oh, it was a terrible joke, but he tried to keep his face as straight as he possibly could. With his luck, she'd have heard the joke before.

Nate heard the photocopier start up. Ace tended to be rather loud when switching paper and ink. He smirked, What a little firecracker.

"DOOOON'T STOP! BELIEVING!"

"Oh my."
PostPosted: Sun Aug 09, 2009 1:10 am

Kaithala beamed at him. "Well if we're talking passion for bands, I'm your girl. Although I think it's moved past passion and is quickly edging its way into uncomfortable obsession. But at least I know it. The tattoo however is, well it's something that really speaks to me. It just so happens that I'm lucky enough to find the material in Metallica. Heaven's way of smiling I suppose." Kai looked wistful for a moment, that was if she really believed in a heaven.

"Oh do you now boy-o?" She giggled girlishly at his pun. "Has anyone ever asked you to drop your dockers and prove it?" A bit of a nefarious grin crossed her face. "Because I'm willing to be the first..."

The singing from somewhere had Kai grinning and laughing.

"Hold on to the feeling!" She added in her own voice.

For some reason, that phrase made him grin. It was exactly what he had thought when Nirvana had come to him, but not in those words of course. Maybe he'd paint those words on her wall above her crib; he bet she'd like that.

Shaking his head, he snapped back to it and looked at Kai; grinning, of course, "Well miss, you might just be the first then." A coy grin played on his lips; he wasn't quite sure, but he was calling her bluff regardless .. even if it wasn't a bluff.

"STREEEEEETLIGHT PEOPLEEEEEEEEE!"

"I think .. she's enjoying this a little too much." Nate laughed; the stencil should almost be done, but of course, he knew Ace had to make it on a few different pages because of the size. They didn't exactly have the most high tech equipment when it came to photocopying, scanning and stenciling. But they had the best artistic qualities and inking equipment.

Kai's lips twitched as she was powerless to stop them. OH, so they were going to play this game were they? Well that was fine, she was the kind of person who played it well, or rather she thought she did. "Well alright then captain, drop your drawers and let's have a looksie shall we?" A rolling laugh bubbled up out of her throat. It was such a ridiculous situation but it did wonders for making her smile.

Whatever it was Ace was doing, Kai was wondering if she'd get back in time to see if Nate actually followed through with the request. It would either be one of the funniest moments of the week or the most awkward.

Well, looks like she wasn't bluffing after all, but Nate's stubborn attitude wouldn't let her win, "Well, alright then!" He began to unbuckle his belt, when --

"Oh my god, "Captain" Nate. PUT the sea monster away; we've got WORK to do!" Well .. Ace was back. As she skipped passed him, she made a little jump and smacked the back of his head, "Loser." A smirk twitched at the corner of her mouth.

"Well, thank you! I know I'm rather blessed in the --"

Smack!

Man, Ace was fast sometimes. Nate was usually a fairly quiet one; the strong, sensitive type! But, of course, he was also hard headed. Sometimes he needed Ace to put him back in line.

"Alright Kai. Let's put this stencil on your back and see how it looks. It's in a few parts, so bare with me." Collecting all the papers and putting them in order on the coffee table, she grinned, "I'll just need you to turn around. I could probably put the stencil under the string for the halter top, buuuuut --" Ace turned and gave Nate a coy look, "NATE will have to get you to undo it during the tattooing process!"

Narrowing his eyes, Nate shook his head. Well, she was just doing her job after all.
