My friend Chris has been staying with his father in Misissippi for the past month or so, and, since his mother will be driving up on Teusday, staying for 2 weeks, and then bringing him back down, he wants me to come with her.
Now, I told him, from the beginning, that I can't promise I can make it up. I've been sending in applications and resumes into each and every job I can find, and I've only got one more interview left, and it's the Wednesday after his mother is to leave for Mississippi. This interview is the one that I've been waiting for the most, it's a managerial position at the local theme park.
When I told him this, he got very angry, and gave me the silent treatment. We're talking again, but only after I told him that I'd see if the interview can be postponed until my return. I doubt it can, though. Locals are cutthroat about ANY job at this place, even more so with the current economy, and I need every edge I can get, and I fear that, if I request a rescheduling, that someone else will have been given the job before my interview even comes along, about 2 weeks after my normally scheduled one.
I don't want Chris to think that I'm a fairweather friend, one of those friends that only around during the good times, but will brush you off in face of something better, because I'm not. But I really, really need this job, because I, as of yet, haven't been promised any of the others, though there's only about 2 others that I have any chance of getting. I need this job, but should I risk it to make my best friend happy? I've known this guy for years, I've stayed at his house, he's stayed at mine, I call his mother "Mom", he's even dating my sister.
Any suggestions?
