Circling the number a couple of times with a pen, she looked at her computer screen, noting the time. Half an hour would be more than enough to get this over and done with, and then she’d have to go find her boss and get a copy of next month’s file. Two weeks. Two weeks since she had arrived in Sacramento California and already she could feel the old headache coming along. A change of departments and location hadn’t solved much. She still seemed to dislike her job. Still… maybe this was the distraction she needed. Punching the numbers into the phone in front of her, she hesitated over the last number.
It wasn’t much, really. But hadn’t she moved here looking for a new start, a new life?
If wearing sexy underwear could make a woman feel more confident… well. Maybe a tattoo would work with the same principle.
Anna punched in the last digit, and waited for someone to pick up.

Hunched over, scribbling away, Ace was in full concentration. Drawing a back piece for herself and another customer, drinking a glass of Jack Daniel's and singing/rocking out to Journey seemed effortless to Ace. Most could not multitask.
It wasn't until the phone rang that the multitasking became difficult. She looked back and forth between both her drawings, her Jack Daniel's and her music, "Ahh!" Grabbing the JD, she ran for the record player and turned down the volume, before making a grab for the phone, "Vishnu Ink! Ace here; how can I be of assistance?!"
Maybe she should have kept the JD down, too.

It was loud. The girl that is. And fast. The response. Anna paused for a moment not quite remembering what she had planned on saying: what did she start with? Her name or why she was calling? Well, why she was calling was pretty damn obvious, she supposed.
Ace was it?
“Hello Ace? My name is Anna Wen and I’m calling about making an appointment to get a tattoo done?” she hesitated, reaching to flip the planner to monthly view quickly to get this done as fast as possible. “I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to tell you really.”

"That's all I need to know, darlin'!" Ace leaned over the counter, opening the appointment book, she searched for a pen, "Now, what exactly were you considering getting? So I can make up a concept sketch and all." She smirked, as she found her pen. Resisting the urge to say anything stupid, Ace waited for Anna's answer.

Anna relaxed. "It's a bit complicated, I think." she started, starting to doodle all over the appointment book in front of her. "I want to get prayer beads, and a feather and a cross and the euler's formula...?" she trailed off. She sounded like a kid at a candy store.
"It's going to be right above my butt: three prayer beads in a sort of 'u' shape, with a cross on one side of it and a feather on the other. Then, sort of above the beads the euler formula? It's quite pretty: my maths teacher in highschool was obsessed with it."
"I think. Does that make sense?" she question marks all over the month view of her planner now, frowning. She thought it did. Maybe.

Ace did a quick sketch, nodding on the phone, "Yup, yup .. hey, that's neat! Euler's formula .. never seen that as a tattoo!" There was genuine excitement there. Legit, she had never heard of that as a tattoo but now that she looked at it, she thought it was pretty sweet.
"Alright, which side did you want the cross on and which side did you want the feather on? Also! I'm assuming this is going across your whole lower back then?" She wanted to get it right; get it perfect.

This woman understood the way Anna's mind worked! "Cross on the left side, feather on the right." she started automatically, pausing. Her left in the back was same as her left on the front, right?
Right.
"Entire lower back." she chewed on her lip thoughtfully. Yeah, that sounded right. "Longer than it is higher though? So it's a bit like a retarded diamond?" if that made sense. "So how do I do this, then?" she didn't feel as nervous admitting that she was completely new to this. "When should I come in?"

Ace snorted, "Retarded diamond. Awesome, you speak my language." She draw a long diamond, width-wise, around the doodle. It was a different design; put together a bunch of different qualities .. Ace's mind began to wander to that special ink. Really, she had the power to choose. If Nate agreed, he'd use it. If not .. well, that hasn't happened yet.
"Alright. You can come in .." A pause; she looked at the caller ID. She was from town, "How about the middle of next week, sometime in the afternoon? We're pretty lenient with hours."

"FANTASTIC!" wait. Had she just said that out loud? Trying to find some composure, she cleared her throat. "Middle of next week sounds good. Wednesday, maybe around five thirty? I end work around five, and I've googled the place so I know where it is." kind of. Taxi.
She'd take a taxi and make her life simpler.
Super fantastic.

Ace grinned; the woman had nearly read her mind when she mentioned the date. Perfect; they had no other appointments on the Wednesday, "Wednesday, it is then!" She scratched the date into the appointment book.
"Looking forward to seeing you! Until then, take care Anna!" She paused, "Unless there's anything else you'd like to ask?" First timers always seemed to have more concerns, rather than questions, but Ace didn't care. She enjoyed being informative.

Anna smiled at the phone. This was easy! Heck, if only all phone conversations went as smoothly. "No, no I think I'm okay Ace." she said. "I'll see you on wednesday!"
