He was a puppy, not a kid. A friggin' puppy. The tail and the ears that were so cat-like was a disguise! Caspien was nothing more than a gigantic humanoid puppy. Her thoughts getting louder and sillier as she climbed the steps to the library, Mara looked up at the old edifice with a frown. The kid was adorable by all accounts, and maybe it was just simple curiosity. She had already determined that her boy liked to do everything and anything. But chewing on her new shoes?
"So you're taking him to the library?"
Mara took the last step and paused, adjust the weight of the child and the bag held in two different arms.
"I can't afford to buy him anything new to play with until my next salary, and if he likes new things enough maybe he'll like the books?"
"You know that children his age don't read, right?"
Mara frowned. She wasn't stupid. Pushing the door open to the library, she hesitated. Oh god what if he chewed on a BOOK? But it was true: she couldn't afford to buy him anything to play with, and he seemed to lose interest in objects too quickly to make it worth the investment anyways. Besides: maybe he'd like books. MAYBE he'd take up reading and become a fabulous little intellectual!
Caspien struggled out of the grasp and let out a lone 'mrawor', and Mara sighed. No, perhaps that was wishing for too much.
"I'm going to pick up some books on child rearing maybe-- Abbie hasn't gotten through for me yet. And maybe some on cats." Mara frowned, noticing that her voice was pitched a bit too loudly. Now... where was the children section? She'd dump him there for a moment and then come back for him. "Listen, I've got to go-- I'll call you again later, alright?"
Mio sighed on the other end, but seemed willing enough. Mara took this opportunity to carry Caspien towards the children color with the colorful, distractive books and hurriedly pulled out a couple from the shelves before placing it in front of the child. He still wore the red ribbon (a little bit ragged now around the edges: she'd have to buy him better clothes soon too.) but now with summer chinos and flip flops. The tail had been the hardest thing to hide, and Mara had settled with simply putting him in a short large enough to hide most of it.
"Baby, stay here for a little while, okay? I'll be back to help you borrow something for tonight." Caspien looked up at her with wide, blue eyes and blinked, tilting his head. He seemed to sense that he'd be well rewarded for whatever he would do because he simply nodded his head happily.
He'd listen to her for now. He'd been eying that red car of Mio's anyways.
Mara, deciding that perhaps she might have five minutes, TOPS, nodded her head, and rushed off towards where she thought the self help books might be. Or maybe she should have started in the pets section...
Caspien in the meanwhile, stared at the books in front of his feet with a curious look of amusement. Opening one up, he looked back to Mara's retreating form with a smirk.
Leave him alone with boring, ugly things like this did she? Huh.

“I don’t know about this, Kaydence…” The voice from the phone crackled in her ear. The teenager struggled to keep the phone cradled between her ear and shoulder as she worked to wrap Dae up in a blanket. The baby was struggling, though, and every so often- when she thought her task was done- he’d kick it off or flick his tail out.
“Dae-Hyun! Behave!” she huffed before trying to remember what her friend had said. “I don’t have any other ideas, do you, Sarah?”
“Yeah,” Sarah chirped and Kaydence paused in her ministrations, waiting. “Tell your dad.”
“Screw you,” Kaydence growled before quickly bringing a hand up to grab her phone from the crook and jam the end button. Throwing the phone down on her bed in frustration, she took her chance to look at Dae. The infant in question was currently attempting to shove his fist into his mouth, all the while being careful of his own fangs. He gurgled something around the hand as his eyes narrowed into an almost smug look as he gazed at his mother.
“I don’t understand why you wont keep the damn blanket on. Just…stay still!” She hissed, moving to wrap the child up once more. The effort this time was well rewarded. It, apparently, worked more to her advantage when she could use both hands, and consequently shoulders, freely.
Tucking the child into her arms, and quickly stuffing a toy into her pocket Kaydence scurried out of the apartment, locking the door as she went. She hadn’t even made it down the flight of stairs, leading out of the building, however, before Dae decided to flick his tail out from beneath the blanket.
A shocked, and slightly terrified squeal escaped her lips as she fumbled, awkwardly, to cover up the appendage, while still moving. When it was, once more, safely out of view, she turned a glare to the boy. “Stop that!”
“Chrome heart,” The baby cooed, before wrinkling his nose and using his hands to cover his face, a decidedly delighted giggle escaping his lips.
Her glare increased in intensity before she finally came upon the street and quickly hailed a cab. It was once she was inside the taxi, heading to the library, the teenager decided to review what little she knew about Buddhism.
She knew Buddhism could be seen as a religion or a set of teachings. Either way, it focused on one thing: Experiencing reality. People who follow Buddhism usually viewed reality and life as a big picture, not specifics, and the more serious believers had a goal to become ‘enlightened’- meaning having a solid understanding or awareness of life to it’s fullest. They sought Nirvana, which was ironically, a band she enjoyed, and there was, of course, the stereotyping of them all being calm and meditative people.
To be perfectly honest, she didn’t know if they all were calm and meditated or not. Nor did she really care.
What she did care about was that, really, there was a lot she could learn from them.
Because, at that given moment, she was freaking out. She was certainly not calm, nor collected, nor understanding of life (However once did that.) She was freaking right the ******** out. And it had nothing to do with the three cups of cappuccino she had before she left the house.
It had everything to do with the squirming bundle in her lap and the unnerving MSN conversation she had with one of the other parents. It was evident she was ill prepared for raising a kid, and while she did, in fact, get her hands on some diapers, the Gerber food she’d picked up had been promptly turned away.
This called for drastic measures. And a trip to the library. …to rent books on demons and babies.
The taxi eventually came to a stop in front of the desired building and, after tossing the fare at him, she gathered up the infant once more and made a quick dash into the entrance. For once the child wasn’t attempting to make her miserable. She had to take the time she was offered.

Mara wandered through the library, frowning. She was sure, had been so sure that this was there correct place! But what did she know about public institutions? Deciding that this wasn’t going to work without divine intervention, she past the children section again and walked towards the front of the library, sparing a glance towards where Caspien was supposed to be. No, he was still there (thank god) in the same position, except he looked like he was…
… was he _sniffing_ the books?
Her face flushing slowly with mortification, she ran over quickly to pick up him up, pulling him towards with her a furiously embarrassed yank. It didn’t go against the rules to molest the books, did it? It wasn’t as if he was damaging them… and surely he was too young for it to matter. Deciding that maybe leaving him alone wasn’t the best idea, she hurried to the desk she had seen at the front of the library. Better to ask for help, than try this alone. She knew better than to think she could handle _that_.
“Excuse me.” Her eyes flickered around the entrance, and deciding that she was quite safe she smiled down at the librarian. “Where can I find books on parenting and cats?” If that woman directed her to some self help machine she was going to quit.
Caspien clung to her, hands curled around the sweater in defiance. He had done what she had asked, hadn’t he? HADN’T HE? What was with this woman, getting so angry with him over nothing? His tail flickered underneath the shirt, hanging low between his legs in annoyance and twitchy shame.
He was so misunderstood!

Kaydence burst through the doors, and in her own mind’s eye, it was a scene from the movies. The double doors flew open, her standing in the center. The wind blew, causing her hair and clothes to billow majestically. In reality, she looked like a distressed, haggard teen, who’s hair was sticking to her lipgloss and was fighting to keep both doors open long enough for her to walk through.
Eventually she gave up and opted to letting the right one close while sliding through the left. Not because she couldn’t use both doors. Simply, she chose not to anymore. There wasn’t anything, after all, Kaydence Dreama couldn’t do.
Slipping into the library she instantly went over to the book drop and sat Dae on the surface as she attempted to smooth out her hair and skirt. Dae gurgled, displeased, and reached a pale blue arm to grasp at the teenager, the blanket he was covered in slowly falling away.
“Dae, no!” She hissed, scooping him back up and attempting to fix his makeshift disguise. “You need to stay covered, got it?”
The babe blinked curious orbs up at the woman, a small frown marring his expression. Kaydence suppressed a sigh. Of course he didn’t understand.
Shaking her head at, both herself and her child, she moved to the computer catalogues, quickly typing in “Parenting books” in the search engine while trying to juggle the child that now sat on her hip. As the screen loaded, his little hand came out from it’s blanket and gently grabbed onto the locks of her hair he could reach.
“Sarangeun mweoda?”
Kaydence squeaked, and quickly turned her attention back to the child, her eyes wide as she hissed out a “Shhhh,” If there was ever a time she wanted the child to listen to her, it was now. She did not want to get thrown out of the library. How embarrassing would that be?
“Mweoda!” he cheered getting louder and letting go of her hair to clap his hands together, a mischievous gleam in his eyes.
“No, Dae. Sh!” It was another hiss, but a bit louder than before. The page finally loaded and she turned her attention back to it, looking at the titles and their descriptions beside it.
“Oh yeah!”
“Oh no!” The sudden-Kool-aid-commercial-esque -yell had caused the teen to startle and shout in return, and she blushed under the heavy glare of one of the librarians, who was busy putting the books away. She offered the lady a sheepish grin and ducked her head a bit, trying to return to her search.
“I got youuuu-- under my skin!”
“Dae-Hyun!” It was a yelly-whisper, she swore. She never raised her voice above a whisper, so the librarian currently glaring at her could go jump off a cliff. “Be quiet!”
“I GOT YOUUUUU--UNDER MY SKIN!”
“No! Bad baby! Very bad baby!”
“I GOT Y--” Kaydence quickly covered his mouth with her free hand and looked back at her search results, quickly trying to determine where the first book could be found so she could get the hell out of dodge.
165.76--GRF
…Well, now, where was that? Her eyes scanned the shelves as Dae squirmed in her arms. It was only when she finally spotted the section she was looking for, or what she hoped was the parenting section anyways, she moved away from the computer. She never, however, removed her hand from her son’s mouth. …That is to say, until he bit it.

The hell was all this noise? Mara’s eyes narrowed as she followed it, tracking the young girl who had walked in just minutes ago with the baby in the blanket. Typical: and so sad. A teen pregnancy where the mother was too young and too inexperienced to handle the caring of a child. She felt a little bit sympathetic though: after all in a sense wasn’t she in the same position? Almost.
“I’ve written down where you can find the books you’re looking for.” The librarian started, and Mara smiled, nodding her head. It wasn’t any of her business how someone else raised their child.
“Thank you.” She started, reaching for the piece of paper. It was going to get extremely annoying trying to juggle everything with Caspien in her arms, but she’d have to manage. Somehow. “You don’t have a child care center here somewhere…?” The blank expression on the woman’s face answered her question enough.
The yell caught her attention and she looked around, frowning with displeasure: but with relief as well. At least Caspien was staying still during this entire episode! Clutching her list, she looked around, and spotted the young mother again with the kid…
Mara couldn’t help the slight snigger of laughter that escaped her. Oh god, it was like some comedy channel making fun of parenting. Hefting Caspien up so that she could tuck her bag around the same arm, she walked forewords. Amused maybe, and also a bit bewildered. Honestly: didn’t the girl have anyone who could baby sit?
“Excuse me.” She started. “Can I help you?”
Caspien peered around, turning his body in the grip of the woman to peer at what had been allowed to make so much noise. It wasn’t fair: it wasn’t fair! How come that little thing got to do what it wanted while he had to behave and pretend to care? Pfftth. He’d show her!
Eyeing the duo with a frown, Caspien’s ears flickered with displeasure under the cap of blonde hair. Oh and the BIG one could make noise too, huh? Kneading at Mara’s shoulder to show his annoyance, he looked up at the woman with a scowl.
THIS WAS DOUBLE STANDARDING! IT WAS SIZE-ISM!

Kaydence desperately attempted to yank her hand back, but Dae held on, his mouth clamped. A sound emitted from his throat, and the girl realized he was trying to ‘sing’ around her hand but it came out almost like a growl, due to the object in his way.
Finally ripping her limb away from the child’s fangs, she looked up at the voice that had spoke to her, distress evident in her expression. Half because this woman looked like she was laughing at her, and half out of relief.
Oh thank god! (Buddha?)
“Oh, He--” she was cut off by the ears flicking on the other kid’s head. She blinked, tilting her head to the side, observing the child. He was even kneeding the other’s shirt! What was it? A cat?! “Uh…er…”
She made a vague gesture with her head to the child, an eye brow raised. A silent ‘the hell is that?!’ when Dae, himself decided he’d had enough with hiding and reached a pale hand out to grab, once more, the nearest lock of hair he could find, giving it a sharp tug.
A self-satisfied grin reached his lips at the tiny squeak emitted from the one carrying him. Then, with complete confidence;
“Chrome heart.”
Because it always made the funny red in the face and make funny noises and funny faces and it was totally and completely worth it.
It was as the lady was turning red in the face that something else caught his attention. Turning his head ever so slightly, he saw the other female and child in her arm. The…thing in her arm was quickly discarded in his mind, but the female…?
He offered a grin to her, his tiny fangs showing, his hand reach--- oh. That blue thing that was constricting him was in the way! He grunted, displeased and tried to squirm away from the cloth.
Not only did it prevent him from being seen, but his tail was getting squished! He huffed in annoyance, when he finally realized the lady holding him wasn’t giving in and he wasn’t getting any leeway and there wasn’t any fleshy things to bite and his grin couldn’t be seen by the other lady. “Oh,”

Mara looked down at Caspien, then back at the young girl’s expression. s**t. The boy had done it again, hadn’t he? Truthfully she hadn’t met anyone who had reacted too strongly to Caspien’s appearance, but then this was one of the rare times that she actually held Caspien in full view of another. Still, she was spared from having to answer right away by the abuse the child was putting the woman through.
Oh my. She could completely identify with that.
Did the child just speak? Hefting Caspien’s weight (the little brat kept struggling! What was she going to do when he got heavier?) she offered a hand out in response. Polite. Neat. And er. Completely avoiding the obvious topic at hand.
“My name is Mara, and neither of us I think are really going to get much done with our kids creating this much of a fuss.” Maybe they could watch them together- or… something. Anything.
Caspien leaned forewords, trying to get a better look at the two in front of him: the little one was struggling with such displeasure that he almost felt something close to kindred pain: he understood what it was like to be swaddled in clothing that didn’t look at all good with his coloring. And to be restricted. Oh, the pain!
“This is my son, Caspien.” Mara continued, pausing for a moment. Well, that was true. She frowned, wondering if the young girl couldn’t afford to clothe the child. Or maybe he was ill. What was with the blanket? The child didn’t appear that much smaller than Caspien. Or maybe the young girl knew more than Mara herself did. The thought was an uneasy one. “He’s…” she stopped, considering her options.
“He’s special?” her smile that spread across her face with the words was weak. Almost pitiful really, and she winced. Well, the girl was too young to be much of a threat if she thought Mara was crazy: Sure. That was going to be her line of defense

Wrinkling her nose (In concentration, not disgust, she swore!) Kaydence shifted Dae’s weight into one arm and reached her own hand out to meet the other’s.
Mara? Now where does that sound familiar? Kaydence frowned- once more in concentration- before smiling the best she could in the situation she had found herself in. “Kaydence.” She spoke with a nod, before glancing at the shelves before her. A desperate, and longing, sort of sigh escaped her lips before she turned to the woman forlornly. “No, no I don’t think we will…”
It wasn’t that the teenager hadn’t noticed the sudden topic change. No, she was too honed of a gossip monger for that. But, she also had a secret to keep, and if this woman would side step her own-- well, she figured if she, herself, had to sidestep the Dae conversation, the woman would politely ignore it. It was only fair after all.
“Hello, Caspian,” she cooed, and despite his odd appearance, she was completely taken in. He was adorable, like a kitten boy! Even though...it was a tad weird. Halloween wasnt for awhile, right? It was obvious that he was…erm…special. ..But the psychotic smile the woman in front of her gave her totally creeped her out.
She took an unconscious, slightly protective, step back.
“And this is my boy. Dae-Hyun.” She chirped, but was non-too-willing to remove the blanket. After all, while this strange woman seemed to think she could dress her son up like it was Halloween every day- Dae was a bit far fetched. Though, she had to admit, the tail and ears were a real nice touch. And the movements they made? Very realistic. Was it a new toy out? She’d have to ask Sarah when she got home. Sarah was always on top of stuff like that. …Freak.
“I read…er…read somewhere that When babies are wrapped with their hands close to their face, they can comfort themselves more easily. I was…hoping it would work. So far all it’s done is leave his hands open to grab my hair.”
She hoped the woman bought that. Because there was no good way of revealing the child you were carting around looked like a demon. Though, this crazy woman might think she just was really into year round Halloween too…
She bet she could pull it off, if the moment came to it.
At least, she was praying to god (Buddha?) that she could.
“So, I take it we’re looking for the same thing, huh? I mean, if we’re both in this aisle? Parenting books…with as many babies out there as there are, I’m sure we’ll be able to find a manual or something.”
Friendly conversation. That’s how she always won over everyone at school. Hopefully it’d work with asylum-escapees, too?

What a pretty name. Mara felt as if she was supposed to recognize it, somehow: but put it all down to the fact that it just sounded like a word that a band member might have used. That must be it, then: it wasn’t as if she had met anyone new in some time. She smiled with pleasure at the way Kaydence treated Caspien though: it was maternal pride, really. Or maybe gratitude that he was cute despite all the trouble he caused.
Dae Hyun?
So the father was Asian? Or maybe Kaydence was adopted by Asian parents. It sounded Korean… or maybe Chinese. The baby was too tightly wrapped up for Mara to be able to exclaim all over him like a proper female adult in front of an adorable child: but maybe it was safer not to get too close to the other woman, while Caspien was still in her arms.
Mara laughed. “He’s very energetic.” How else she could phrase ‘seemed to enjoy abusing his mother’ she had no idea. But energetic seemed to be a nice euphemism. Like… being special.
Mara did a quick skim at the book shelves, and nodded. “I’ve got a couple back at home but I wanted to book couple a couple more. None of the books I have seem to really deal with child rearing. More about pregnancy and bringing the kid home.” Well, for such a young mother she seemed to be capable, if she was coming to do actual research. Although honestly: after having the baby inside her for nine months maybe she could have been more prepared.
It wasn’t as if even Kaydence had had a child dropped into her life in a span of a week.
OHSNAP That was it! She recognized it now. The whole name on facebook had been so unusual to her, in the beginning, that it had been hard to forget it. Idly picking up a big fat parenting book and deciding that surely her answer must be in it _somewhere_, Mara instead turned all of her attention to the young girl. She felt very accomplished, rather like a detective now. And relieved too. If she was who Mara thought she was.
“I think we’ve talked, before.” Well, maybe talk wasn’t the right word. Mara had read a post and had responded to it. If this ended up being a complete misunderstanding she was going to be mortified. But there was something about the small chance that there was someone else close to her in the same type of trouble… she had to ask.
“This might sound…” creepy? Stalkerish? Evidence that she was a complete psycho? Maybe. “strange, but I think we might be part of the same group on facebook?” Mara looked down at Caspien at a loss. How was she going to finish this sentence?
“Does Rethe Phonne mea anything to you?”

Kaydence couldn’t help but smile warmly at the woman’s words. Yes, Dae was energetic. …And annoying. As well as obnoxious. Way more responsibility than she was ever prepared for, and was a mouthful more than she could chew. But he was hers. And in the few days since his birth, she’d grown fond of him. Even if he still kept her up at night and she, obviously, had no idea what she was doing.
Her attention was drawn away from her own musings at the woman’s voice, and she found herself nodding. “Well, I think that’s a bit better than me, I guess.” She admitted with a chuckle. She really had nothing in her house. …Cept that green eggs and ham book she kept from when she was little. There weren’t any secrets of life-and-child-raising hidden within it’s pages, though. “I’ve only managed to scrounge up a few internet articles. I was hoping for a ‘raising a kid--for idiots’ kind of deal.”
She turned her attention back to the books, once more taking advantage of Dae’s willingness to behave. Matter of fact, he was being oddly silent. Maybe he’d fallen asleep? She didn’t want to risk looking at him and having the fight start all over again, so she scanned the shelves and pulled out the book she’d been looking for with a slight ‘Aha!’
…Then promptly dropped it as Mara spoke again.
Woah, no, no. She definitely hadn’t talked to a crazy woman before. Or at least, not one with a cat-child. No matter how cute it was. She was about to open her mouth and say just this, when Mara continued.
“…Rethe Phonne?” She squeaked, her voice high pitched and cracked.
And suddenly it all clicked into place. Mara!
“Ohmigosh! Now I know why your name sounded familiar! Oh, thank god--and maybe buddah-- you’re not some crazy cat lady with a Halloween obsession! Hi my name’s Kaydence! Oh--wait, we already are past the introductions. But wow! It’s so nice to meet you! I didn’t know anyone with this kind of situation so I’ve been totally winging it, and Dae doesn’t eat Gerber food, no matter how much I try to get him to eat it! So I thought I’d pick up a few books on children, oh, and well, maybe how to train your pet, and de-- oh that’s right, you haven’t seen him yet, have you?”
The words came out in an excited babble, her eyes lighting up. Dae caught onto the energy, as well, his hands clapping, his legs kicking from the blanket. So he wasn’t asleep after all. “Crystal!”
“Come here,” She whispered, and she realized it sounded almost creepy. Like a stranger offering a child a piece of candy, but really, she couldn’t help it. She wanted to show off her baby and get to know someone else in her situation.

Mara hesitated, nervously deciding maybe she should run. Fast. The way the young girl dropped the book seemed to be sign enough that she was completely wrong and that this was all a big mistake. Still, when she repeated the name in that oddly squeaky voice that sounded just more than a little bit nervous, she decided to stay. No one who was a stranger to the name would react that way, right? Well… telling herself that was better than nothing. Her grip on her own book tightened then, and she looked down at Caspien for a moment. Wasn’t it obvious that her little boy must be the product of something as retarded as a magic ball that turned into a child? Okay. A magic sound then, not ball.
The words that left the girl’s mouth was much too fast for her to understand. Feeling vaguely as if she was watching TV except with the sound on fast forward, she hesitated for a moment, trying to pick up what she could. Wait, what? A crazy lady with a kid dressed up as… well, that would explain it she supposed. (Did other people think she was as crazy? Wasn’t she too young to receive that type of treatment? Oh my god she felt old… 12 cats and no children old.) Still, there was something quite nice about facing such youthful energy (although honestly how much younger could the girl be? Maybe ten years, max?) that made her feel a bit better. Made her feel like a grown up, handling the stress quite well thank you very much.
At the low whisper, Mara blinked. Okay, so the girl had slowed down then? Damn, that had been a lot of words to process. Still, she did take a step closer, curious. So the girl HAD taken the orb out of the closet! Or maybe the child had been born in the darkness before the girl had the chance… did that explain why he seemed to delight in causing his mother trouble? He must look different too then, and that would really explain the blanket.
“Pet books?” god her brain was slow. Or just older, maybe. “I’m doing the same, really. Caspien does act more like a child than a kid…and your child speaks? Already?” they must be the same age, thereabouts. After all they had been orbs at the same time. “Mine doesn’t… I don’t know of it’s out of choice, or because he can’t.” Caspien’s ears perked up at his, and the tail shifted uncomfortably against Mara’s arm. “He does act more like a domesticated pet than a human being…”
In fact, what was the girl’s orb originally? Had it also been a Disney song? Or maybe it was something else? And WHY had he said crystal?
“Thank god I wasn’t wrong.” She started. “Glad to know you are _that_ Kaydence.” She had someone to panic about this whole situation with now!

“Yeah, pet books, haha” She giggled as she worked at slowly unraveling the tight blanket she’d wound around Dae to prevent him from revealing himself. “I figure it would be easier to train a pet then raise a kid. You know the whole squirt bottle idea? Sprits him whenever he doesn’t behave.” Her tone had calmed down considerably as she pulled the blanket away from his face, revealing his shock of blue and black hair. She lightly lifted him with one arm and let the blanket fall to the ground. “Just kidding, of course. …kinda.”
With Dae free from the blanket his long multi colored tail instantly curled around her arm, always careful of the spikes. It was fun to pick on the lady, not make her bleed. The first time that had happened she cried louder than his head could handle. He’d clamped his hands on his ears and he could still hear it.
But none of that really mattered. The lady could see his grin now! So he offered her own, fangs and all, his hand coyly wrapping around the fabric of Kaydence’s shirt, almost mirroring the other child’s stance. Cept he wasn’t kneading, just holding.
“Yeah, he does talk.” She went on, a sad sigh escaping her lips. “He has been since he was an orb. Keeps me up with his singing. You know, from his song? …but yours doesn’t, huh? I bet he can.” She nodded, almost sage like. Only because Dae-Hyun had talked so much she found it hard to believe that the others were mute. She ignored the relieved comment- though inwardly she did a little cheer. Hellz yeah people she didn’t even know were recognizing her! Even if it wasn’t for her skateboarding, it was a start!- leaning, instead, closer to Caspian, she offered the babe a winning grin, Dae tucked on her hip.
“You can, can’t you? You’re just shy, huh? Come on, say something?” She cooed, her free hand coming up to wag in front of the infant, as if it were a kitten. Which, she justified, he was much like. However this plan backfired when Dae leaned forward in her one arm grasped and grabbed onto Mara.
“I got youuuuu!”
“ARG. BAD BABY!”

Mara smirked. Squirt bottle? Actually that was a pretty good idea... it might convince Caspien to at least not gnaw on public property. There was something extremely embarrassing about having a child that liked to eat things. Her eyes widened as the blanket fell away: well, this was certainly not what she had been expecting! Those were spikes, on the table? She had assumed after stalking the facebook group that all children were based off of some type of animal: she hadn't read about a guardian whose child wasn't. Then was Dae Hyun some type of lizard? Or was there more to this than she had first thought? God. That thought made her uneasy.
The boy was curious looking: Mara couldn't really think of any other way of... well, thinking it. But he was gorgeous, in that exotic way crocodile bags and snake skin shoes could be.
"He's gorgeous." Mara stated. He was a very beautiful baby! Listening to Kaydence's words and deciding that this situation was absurd (she was taking advice on her child from a ... child? This was ridiculous.) she tried not to laugh.
Caspien eyed the moving finger in front of him suspiciously. This was bait, for something! He knew. And the tone of voice and the way she said it? What was the point of talking when MARA DIDN'T LISTEN ANYWAYS?? But this one was younger... fresher smelling too. So he liked it. With a beaming smile he opened his mouth to reward this little thing when..
"Does Dae Hyun understand what he's saying?" Mara couldn't help the startled laugh that escaped her this time. Did he know that in a sense his words matched everything, or was this just all a coincidence? Mara laughed as she awkwardly tried to pat the little hand that was holding her arm. "You're adorable, you know that?"
Caspien scowled. Wait a minute: this one was invading his property! They hadn't come to any agreement about molesting each other's property. Or maybe he had missed it? Was it in the loud words that the boy was muttering? Was this some sort of verbal deal? Dae holding Mara put Kaydence close enough that Caspien decided to repay the boy with the favor.
"Cha cha ba dum bo day~~" he launched his attack, twisting slightly in Mara's grasp to each out and grab the closest thing to him.

Kaydence shuffled awkwardly, trying to grab Dae’s hand and pry his fingers loose, a blush dancing across her face. Oh, god, he couldn’t just behave for two seconds? “Ah- uhm…I don’t…don’t know.” She murmured, embarrassed, and giving up a bit. “Sometimes it seems like it, but then he starts sprouting out Korean. I don’t know if he’s just…making noise and reacting off reactions, or if he actually knows what hes saying. It would…help…if…well, hello there Caspian.”
For a moment the teenager wondered if it was physically possible to die from blushing. She knew her face must have gone twenty shades darker the moment the little voice called out--and his little fist found her chest. Oh, dear god. --Buddha?
Anytime you want to open up and swallow me whole, is alright with me, Earth.
Her hand that had been previously trying to pry her son away from the woman in front of her moved to trying to pry a hand off her boob. How embarrassing!! “Well, aha…at least we…uhm…know he can talk?” Make light of the situation and it’ll help!
Dae-Hyun instantly let go of the woman’s arm the moment he saw the…thing…grab the lady who was holding him. That was completely unacceptable!
Upset, once again, Dae-Hyun leaned back and pushed on the little arm that was holding his mother’s chest. minemineminemine!
Frustration gave way to anger and with a huff he let tiny, cold, blue sparks escape from his finger tips onto the boy’s arm. That would teach him!
“Dae-Hyun!”
Why was he getting yelled at?!
“BAD BABY!”
Kaydence knew, from personal experience that the sparks that Dae let off didn’t-couldn’t- really hurt. It was just an unpleasantly cold sensation. As if someone took a cold water bottle and placed it against your neck when you weren’t looking. The other child wouldn’t be harmed, but it was his brattyness that had started this situation in the first place! Last thing she needed were infants throwing magic back and forth in the library!
So much for maybe finding a kindred spirit! The woman may not be crazy, but Dae sure as hell probably just scared her off.
“Mweoda!”

Aw jesus. She was never, ever bringing Caspien out in public again. It was like the beginning of a joke: a cat boy pawed at a woman with a baby who could do magic... actually, it wasn't the beginning of a joke. It was the beginning of a really, really bad story. Completely losing track of whatever the young girl had actually been saying to her, Mara jostled Caspien lightly.
"We don't molest women in public Caspien." she said firmly, and couldn't believe the words that were now leaving her mouth. Marc liked to act like he was a father... maybe when Caspien was old enough to understand her, she could leave the talk to him to deal with.
"I'm so sorry about the..." well, she wasn't going to mention THAT again. Caspien looked up at her with wide, bright eyes that seemed disgruntled and confused over the commotion that he had caused, rather than embarrassed or even a little bit scared. In fact: he looked as if he was annoyed at _her_. Crazy baby. Still, she frowned as she tried to look at Caspien's hands. No, he didn't look like he was in any pain, and there wasn't a mark on him after the entire episode. Just what HAD that been? "What was that?" she eyed Dae Hyun with a different gleam in her eyes this time. He had a tail: and he could do magic?
Caspien in the meanwhile didn't like the way that had felt AT ALL. First of all, what was wrong with touching a woman when someone else had STARTED it? And secondly... Caspien's ears twitched as he stared at his hands, flexing them. It hadn't hurt: it had actually felt more like the time he had tried to crawl into the ice maker behind the bar, at M's. Cold. A little jumpy. Just how had the other boy done it? He frowned as he reached forewords. Dammit the boy had secret tricks up his sleeves and he wanted to see how he had done it NOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOW!
Maybe he could do it too, later. Maybe it was like talking! The more you talk the faster you learnt other tricks? Except... well, he didn't really understand what all the fuss was about with this noise thing.
Ahah! Maybe him SPEAKING had trigger the entire thing, and not the touching! With grabby hands (it had been the most unusual experience ever. Of course he wanted to repeat it!) he tried again, this time doing that vocal thing they all seemed to like so much.
"Rinky tinky tinky!" he demanded. Show him the goods NOW!
Mara paused. "He doesn't seem... to dislike it."
She had a perverted masochist on her hands now?
