Jerard Phonne
Captain

PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 3:18 am

The chairs had held countless numbers of students in the same position as the duo in front of him now. Well… similar enough positions. New teams of technicians and weapons who were welcomed into a new stage of their life with open arms and rose tinted glasses. A new adventure of mischief! Magic! And Happy Endings!

Hah.

“Need I remind you it’s about time we did this?” Jerard watched the two students sitting in front of him with a mixture of amusement and annoyance. Months. Months had been wasted watching the little game of pretense, but it would be over soon now. Soon, he wouldn’t have to worry about weapons wasting their time courting a technician who had already found his partner. Now the school would be able to see just exactly what they were capable of.

Yes. This meeting was long overdue.

“Alexis will be showing you around the campus, and will answer any questions you might have about your partnership.” He arched a brow, daring one of them to question him. “You’ll be given the complete and standard tour to familiarize the both of you with anything that might be new to your schedules. Congratulations on becoming a team. I’ll be expecting great things from the both you.”

Z tried, but failed to suppress a smirk at Jerard Phonne's words. Time indeed. He didn't have to look to his left to see what Lucien's reaction would be to those words - it was easy to imagine his partner with that now-familiar sardonic light in his eyes. The past two months had been tremendously amusing to the both of them. For Z, it gave him an opportunity to watch someone almost as crazy as himself at work. As for Lucien... well, Z could speculate on the reasons why the other had done it, but he wondered how accurate he'd be.

"Very well, sir. As you wish." Lucien's voice was oddly stilted and formal as he addressed the school administrator. Listening in, nobody would have been able to tell that they were father and son.

Z was so distracted by this odd behavior in his TECHNICIAN that Jerard's final words took a few seconds to sink in. Given the complete tour? What was this, punishment? And with Alexis, no less? Of all the staff at the school, he disliked the lady they all referred to as "the Iceberg" the most. She acted like such a shrew sometimes!

His attention was brought back to the present when he felt Lucien's hand on his shoulder. Looking up, he saw that Lucien had already stood up, and was ready to leave the office. The other's face was closed up, as bland as he'd ever seen it. Before he could utter a word, however, Lucien was already out the door and waiting in the corridor.

The inner demon in Z found the situation impossible to resist, and as he stepped outside to wait for Alexis with his partner, he couldn't help but tease. "What's crawled up your a**, L? Is Alexis one of the few your charms have no effect on?"

Cold silence was his only answer as Lucien pretended not to hear, though Z could plainly see that the other's hands were clenched tight as they waited for their tour guide.

Alexis made her way down the hallway, her normal heels making a steady confident click on the tiles. Really she should have turned Jerard down. She didn't have time to show these two around the campus. And they'd had ample time to see the campus for themselves, as they'd both been at the school for so long. Especially Lucien. Still, she'd already agreed to it, so it was just time to get it over with.

She frowned as she took the last turn. The two boys were already waiting for her. Well at least they were prompt, that was probably thanks to Jerard though. Where exactly was she supposed to take these two that they already hadn't been. At least to the missions department as neither of them had been on a formal mission as of yet and it seemed that both boys avoided her office like the plague. That wasn't something she was sad about though. Troublemakers. But after that... hmmm, they'd just see how far they got.

Squaring her shoulders, she prepared for hell. A smug little kid and a crazy one, what a combination. "Alright gentlemen," she said in her disenchanted voice as she approached, "I'll be showing you around campus today. If there are any questions," you haven't been paying attention in your time here, "just ask."

Lucien followed Alexis without another word. There was nothing to say, would never be anything to say to this woman that strutted down the hallway in her heels in front of them. He knew exactly why this was happening, and suspected that Z did as well, but sometimes he wished that Jerard didn't have this sadistic streak. Then again, if he didn't, then Lucien wouldn't be who he was. Damnit.

As they followed Alexis around campus, tuning out the Misson head's voice, Lucien struggled to remind himself of the amusement the past two months had given him. It had been truly hilarious watching the un-paired (and some paired) WEAPONS approach him in the hopes that he would pick them as a partner. Their methods of persuasion had varied, from those playing hard-to-catch games, to those who had downright offered almost anything for the position.

Lucien snorted softly as he thought of the latter category. As if he would fall for that.

He blinked as he realized that they were entering territory that he tried his hardest to avoid. Alexis' office and the missions area were places both he and Z had agreed to stay out of, if for different reasons. He was well aware of his partner's aversion to the Missions head, and he could see why - hell, anyone could see why.

While Lucien had been grateful that their progress so far had been mostly uneventful, with Alexis rattling off unimportant information, the continued silence from both him and Z was starting to get oppressive.

A glance was all that was needed, and Z stepped forward, always up for a risk, as always. Even if that thrill came from baiting the Iceberg.

"So.. Alexis." Z purposely put an emphasis on the name, dropping all the formalities between staff and student, "Why are you taking us to your own offices?"

Well it had almost been an un-eventful trip. Alexis groaned on the inside while she kept her face carefully blank. She knew that with these two in particular, the best course of action was zero emotion. Give 'em an inch and you give 'em a mile. Stopping for a moment, she turned to face Z, "Alright, Kimura, if you have any intention at all of serving your purpose to this school, you'll need to make regular stops in the Missions Department. That is the one and only way that you'll receive missions to capture souls. And as I'm sure you're aware, any souls captured while not on mission, will not be sanctioned by the academy, and will not count toward your ultimate goal." She paused and folded her arms across her chest. "Next question." After a brief pause she turned on her heel and continued down the hallway.

This wasn't worth it. Jerard was a damned sadist. Pinning her with Lucien. What did he expect? Just because the kid was his son didn't mean he'd get any preferential treatment. And they never spoke, well it was better that way probably. Frowning to herself she continued on. It wouldn't be much longer and then she could be rid of these two.

Stopping in front of the missions bulletin board, she gestured at the many rows of mission boards. "This is where you'll come to choose your missions. I'm sure you both know that you can only accept missions that are ranked the same as yourself. If you wish to attempt a higher ranked mission you must get express permission from myself. Any renegade missions will result in disciplinary action." She glanced between the two of them. "Lucien are you listening?"

Almost identical expressions of intense thought crossed the pair's face before being quickly blanked out - Z with his usual amused expression, and Lucien with a bored look. Z slid his eyes sideways and was pleased to note that Lucien no longer had that glazed look that he always managed to get when he was about to seriously hurt someone.

Looked like everything was back to normal. Which was always fun.

They'd both known that any souls they managed to obtain while doing... not-so-legitimate activities couldn't be logged with the school, though Lucien was currently working on that as neither of them wanted to have to do missions following the rigid constrains that the Academy had set. The younger of the pair seemed to only need to breathe in order to get others to bend to his will...

Still, to be getting this "special talk" from Alexis - Z briefly wondered if she was on to them, and dismissed the thought. Not likely. So it was probably just a stab in the dark.

"Oh, was I supposed to be?"

Lucien's voice, as bored as the expression on his face, brought Z back to attention. That was somewhat atypical of Lucien, to purposely cause a clash with the staff when they already had a possible upper hand. And it just wasn't quite his style - Z had been half expecting Lucien to ply on the charm, and ease their way out of this dumb tour.

To his surprise, Lucien continued, a faint smile playing around his lips as he did so.

"It's not like you're not telling us things we don't already know. Since this seems to be a chore for all of us involved, I didn't think you'd be saying anything important."

OH boy. Sometimes Lucien was even more thrill-seeking than he was, especially if he wanted to bait the Iceberg.

Alexis merely stared at Lucien for a moment. Yes, what a troublesome boy. Of course it was useless trying to talk to him. The boy who grew up leading nearly everyone along by the nose. It was a point of pride and merit that Alexis seemed to be immune to his charisma and charm. "Ah, I'd forgotten, you do seem to have a record of not being able to listen when you're told something important or otherwise. I wonder how you'll do, Lucien, when you realize that your sad pathetic attempts at charm won't garner you privileges here." And she'd see to it. If there was even a hint that one of her staff was giving Lucien special treatment, she'd cut them down at the knees.

For Alexis, this was her being un-characteristically emotional. And given her flat voice, that was saying something. "But as you seem to believe that you've got this..." She paused for the briefest moment, "handled. I don't feel the need to continue this tour any longer. I'm sure you both can find your way out of my department as you've avoided it for so long. Wouldn't want to damage your track record."

And with that, Alexis turned without a backward glance and entered her office. Shutting the door with an ominous click behind her. Sitting on her desk were all the Rank 1 missions that were currently available. Oh whoops, those were supposed to go up today. Ah well, it was too bad for anyone who happened to want to sign up for one. Now, after that foul experience she just wasn't in the mood to do it. Shrugging, the woman dumped them all into a folder and filed it away in one her drawers.

Lucien cocked his head, expression unreadable as he watched Alexis return to her office. Once the door was firmly shut, he turned to Z and shrugged before beginning to walk, heading towards the school's main doors.

"I should have thought of that earlier," was his only comment as they both headed towards the school's main doors.

He knew that this meeting with Alexis was going to spark Z's curiosity, and considering how much the guy loved challenges, it would only be a matter of time before he discovered the reasons behind Alexis' - and even his own - strange actions today. It had been a dumb move on Jerard's part to have put them together in the first place - with witnesses. Z was supremely intelligent and observant for all that he usually played the role of delinquent.

Glancing over, he noticed that Z already had an expression of consideration on his face, as though his partner was running the events through in his head. As if feeling Lucien's gaze, Z smiled sharply as he spoke. "Don't worry too much about it, Lucien. You should know by now that I wouldn't tell anyone anything you don't want known. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to have your fun watching all those girls... and boys.. fawn over you."

Lucien found himself smiling - a mirthless smile, but one nonetheless. He'd almost forgotten that Z and him were partnered up for more reasons than just their wavelengths matching. Though the fact that they did, and to such an extensive degree, was a reflection of how well-matched they were.

"Lets get outta this place and head for the gym or something. Looks like there won't be any missions for us for the next few days anyway."
