"Will you swear on your life that no one will cry..."

Rosalynn browsed the shelves of the bookstore mindlessly, running her smooth, pale hand down the worn old wood that had seen the covers of many thousands of books and just as many hands, Rosalynn decided, had run over the shelf like hers was now. Her school robes were packed away in her trunk, which she'd had her father cast a simple shrinking spell on and shoved carelessly into her pocket. 'I need a better trunk.' Rosalynn decided, wondering where she could get a custom trunk. Money, she knew, wouldn't be an issue.

With a glare fixed on her face, Rose set her green and blue eyes on the paper she clutched in her other hand. It was the list of textbooks she would need for school this year. This, Rosalynn always claimed, was the most annoying part of the entire experience of Hogwarts. Sure, the Gryffindors were whiney little brats who thought they were tough, and sure the Hufflepuffs were sniveling little muggle lovers who believed in something as stupid as 'World Peace' but nothing bugged Rosalynn Elizabeth James more than buying books for school.

It wasn't that she hated bookstores. Rosalynn spent a lot of her time in them now that she didn't have a sibling to spend time with. It was just the meniality of the chore. Why couldn't the school just buy the books and keep them in the classrooms? Why did Rosalynn have to take the time out of her last day of summer to go out and buy school stuff all day. It wasn't even exciting. First years were running around with flushed faces and smiles lighting their eyes because they were excited to finally have their own wands and to be in the school that their siblings, their parents, their grandparents, et cetra had attended. They were annoying. Rose decided that if any of them even touched her, she'd hex them into oblivion.

Her posture and facial expressions must have conveyed this promise of death because no one came near her; not even the attendants of the bookstore. Finally locating one of the books, Rose yanked it off the shelf and tucked it under her arm, trailing her hand along the shelves as she moved across the store for her next subject's text: Potions.

Potions was the worst class in the school. Not only were there no life-altering potions taught, but the professor was a mudblood lover too. She'd been a Slytherin, Rose had heard, but looking at her now, she was sure that it would never be a fact she believed. That, and Rose absolutely sucked at it. Slytherins were supposed to get top marks in Potions, right? Well, this Slytherin was the exception. Continuing her brooding, Rosalynn scanned the shelves for the book that she needed in silence.

Once she found the potions book, she walked up to the register and paid for them without a word, glaring at the man as he tried to start up a converstation with her. Like she would sully her reputation by talking to this half blood. She snatched her books out of his hand and walked out the door with an air of authority. She swore and walked back into the bookstore. Honestly, she had nothing else to do in preparation for school, and so she wanted to stay where she felt comfortable. She walked up to the second floor and grabbed a random fiction book, one she wasn't sure who the author was, and curled up in a corner to read it.

Aeden browsed the selection of books, and in all honestly, had everything else blocked out. When he found one that interested him, he'd compare the information in said books to the notebook he carried in his messenger bag. He'd laugh some times, other times simply shake his head. Only a handful of textbooks held information he didn't already have cataloged and memorized, and from those, only one or two notations.

He was obviously a new student, but no stranger to the Wizarding World. News had already gotten out that a boy, who'd been a wizard under the Beauxbaton label, had changed schools. Now, this alone was odd, but another rumored followed: his father was Dante Hengist, a famous Dragon Seeker, someone who supplied shops with parts from the corpses of dragons (He never slayed one), and even supplied a few dragons for a couple Tri-Wizard tournaments.

Mythical Creatures were his specialty, but he wasn't too shabby at the classes most found boring: classes dealing with using the better part of your brain. He, of course, wasn't too fond of these courses, but they were a necessary evil.

He checked his bag. He had the books he needed... the wand, he'd gotten before he came to the Alley... his shopping list was completely scratched out... minus the robes, but he was except from having to wear the robes as, again, he was from Beauxbaton. He decided it was time to move on, maybe to look at the animals they had on sale? He already had a... companion, but it couldn't hurt to just see what they had.

That's when he passed by Rosalynn. A little shorter than himself, and features suggested the same age as himself. He simply grinned. "Yo."

"When your heart is broken a thousand times..."

Rosalynn glared up over the top of her book. Then she considered the man. He couldn't have been much other than her, though she wasn't exactly sure of his age, yet he approached her. And was kind. That was something that hadn't happened in a long, long time. She regarded him silently, standing up gracefully, considering her curled form in the corner of the bookstore. She honestly had no idea who this kid was, but she was fairly sure if he was pure, she'd know him, or at least of him. He must be a Halfblood. Kinder than most purebloods, but if I'm caught talking to him.' Rose shivered inwardly and resumed her glare.

"Can I help you, Halfling?" Okay, she didn't know if he was halfblood, but he definitely wasn't pure, and he didn't look like a mudblood either, so that's what she assumed. "Did you need to find the Beginner's Book of Spells? It's over with the rest of the babies." She said with a sneer, pointing to a group of first years. Rosalynn couldn't help but add on, "Hey, maybe they'll even teach you the rules of Quidditch!" She had no idea what house he was in, if he even went to Hogwarts, but she assumed he was a Hufflepuff seeing as he'd approached the infamous Rosalynn James.

Heh... real cute... and a smart a** to boot. The shiver concerned him, though. "Can you help me? Probably not. And Quidditch? I tell ya, it's a lot funner when using Hippogryphs to fly around in the steed of brooms." A grin was plastered to his face. This would be.... interesting. She was easy to read, yet no so at the same time. If everyone at Hogwarts was like this, oh, some pegs were going to fall. That much was for sure.

"Halfling? I thought the term used was 'Mudblood'?" He got some stares after he let that out, but he'd already blocked them out. But she was right about one thing. "Not a beginner, but new to Hogwarts, I suppose. This place is... different. A lot less Preppy... I like it." While where he came from wasn't female only, the femanine touch was definitely there... so much so that he wouldn't have survived it there if not for a particular person.

"When your heart is broken a thousand times..."

Rosalynn considered the man before her. Did he miss her attempt at cruelty, or simply not care? Either way, he had insulted her in her mind and she wasn't going to let him get away with it. However, she couldn't come up with any good comebacks. Instead, she pulled slightly further back to the bookshelf, saying "Only use 'Mudblood' on the Muggle borns. You don't look like you were born to a normal 'happy' muggle couple." Rosalynn said, her glare keeping in place. "You'll never survive in Hogwarts." Rose said with dismissal, waving her hand with the same air her tone had. "You don't look like a hero, and you're certainly no Factionist, that makes you a nobody. Nobodies are thrown into the shadows at Hogwarts." Rosalynn said in a slightly bored tone, though she was actually pretty interested in his reaction.

She took the man in for the first time since she'd stood. He had a strange hat on that seemed to hug his head and Rose couldn't seem to see the point. Must be a muggle thing. Orange hair peaked out from under it and his blue eyes looked into her green and blue ones with an unreadable look. She wondered if this was the fae that she had heard rumors about. Something about living with the French Beauxbaton's girls and going to their school. Nearly unheard of, and usually the only wizards Rosie heard about going to Beauxbaton's ended up being gay. She kind of hoped this guy wasn't from there, but he was a halfblood, so it didn't matter either way.

Aeden's grin never went away, only grew the tiniest bit. "Ah, but you see, that's the best place to be in a new place. From the shadows, you can observe and record without attracting attention, and they won't see the fist if necessary. Least you're not... 'attacked' at Hogwarts... I hope...?" Now he was concerned, after thinking about it. Now he began to babble on. "You see, when the female, male ratio is extremely one sided, and the 'market' is even smaller, you get... well... first the stares, then the talks... I've only seen the look they gave the other boys through observing a hungry tiger with prey in its sights. Scary stuff." He shivered a little.

He tapped his beanie slightly, then that grin faded into something a little depressed. Ah no, he'd never considered any of them. The one he got, or rather had, was the one hardest to get. He quickly decided to change the subject he himself brought up. "So, do all wizards and witches see new guys the same as you do, or...?"

"When your heart is broken a thousand times..."

Rosalynn watched his grin grow ever so slightly and grew a little more angry. He started to say something about sticking to the shadows was safer becasue he could observe more and defend himself better and Rose considered this. Yes, she supposed, that must be true. She'd been in the shadows long enough that now she only emerged to lay people out, then she'd retract back into the shadows. Everyone had given up on her becoming a Factionist and she certainly wasn't going to join the campaign agaisnt them, so that left her in the middle ground that was, for the most part, ignored.

Except she was a pureblood, watched by other pureblood children and reported to her pureblood parents to get more lessons on being a good pureblood. That's how it was supposed to be though. She was of purer blood than most wizards, so it made a lot of sense that she should be held to a higher standard and look down on those who didn't meet the standard she only barely scraped.

Rose groaned a little, then started laughing. "You are the Beauxbaton's boy." She said, laughter lighting her face. "Oh lord, you really won't survive in Hogwarts. Even the Hufflepuffs have some reservations about Beauxbaton's boys." Rosalynn laughed a little, rubbing some liquid from her eyes and watching him with slightly cautious eyes. Then he seemed to ask her a question about how other witches and wizards were. She sobered almost immediately at the question.

"Don't know and don't care about the other biggots, halflings, or mudbloods." Rosalynn was so used to the glares she recieved whenever she used that word, she ignored them completely. She dropped the fiction book she had been reading by her bag and folded her arms, a hard glare settling on her face again.

His eyebrow raised. "So I finally gained your attention over the book?" Mission one, accomplished. But one thing threw him off. "'Hufflepuffs'? What is that, some sort of gang?" His old school didn't have 'Houses', but rather (And I'm totally B.Sing this part) the school worked as a whole to accomplish things. Kind of silly. Competition is the main reason for human evolution, not group efforts.

His arms crossed, mimicing her own figure, partially as a joke, partially because sometimes doing so allowed you to think like they did, and by doing so, allowed you to gain more information about them. He himself was a halfbreed, yes, due to his mother being a moggle, but his father was a pureblood. Now, here's the odd thing: his moggle side was rich, and the pureblood side rather in the middle, so where did Aeden stand? That didn't matter, and despite one or two events, he was perfectly happy with his life, defects and all.

To her statement, he simply nodded. "So I take it yes? Good, could use a bit of spice after all the damned glitter I've had to deal with. Sounds fun."

"When your heart is broken a thousand times..."

"Are you for real?" Rose said with a bright laugh, truly seeming to enjoy the moment. "Hufflepuffs? A gang?! Maybe of mudblood-loving-bleeding-hearts. They couldn't even kill a fly if they wanted to. And they'd never want to." Rosalynn said with another laugh.

"Alright, I guess you've said enough to learn my name. I'm Rosalynn James." Rose introduced herself, watching him carefully. She wasn't sure how she was to read this guy. He was smart and had plenty of courage but he was also one of those people, Rosie thought, that would go out of his way to help someone. He really could have been in any house but Slytherin.

And just as Rose had introduced herself, she saw a few other Slytherins walk into the bookshop, a few of them spotted Rose in her signature 'Your incompetence amuses me' stance and joined her. "What do we have here, Rosie?" A boy said, circling the man before him with a predatory glance. Rose had the instinct to reply that it was none of his god damned business, but decided against it. That wouldn't look good here.

"Don't actually know his name." Rose replied cooly, though her eyes were somewhat off. Yes, she did enjoy torturing this man, but she almost felt like he was hers to torture and her friend should have backed off. Again, though, the image of her defending a halfblood wouldn't be good and her family... Another cringe that went unnoticed by her friends.

"Looks a little old to be fresh meat." the boy replied, tossing his chin length brown hair behind his ears. He came to a stop in front of the man Rose had been talking to.

"Yeah, I think he's that guy you were telling me about. That Beauxbatons boy." Rose answered with an amused grin. Another girl with pixie-like blue eyes and long blonde hair walked up to him and shoved her face nearly in his, sniffing in disdain.

"He's definitely not pure." She said, an almost crestfallen look befalling her face. Rose could understand that. He was pretty cute.

"Doesn't matter anyway, Lane. He's not Slyth material. He doesn't have the right stuff." Rose said with a small glare, directed at the girl, but since she was still in front of the stranger, it looked like it was at him.

"Well, pretty boy," Rose's male friend said, glaring at the man. "Anyone here interest you?" He said with a smirk, gesturing a little too obviously to the group of male third years that were simply shopping for their books together. Rose wanted to roll her eyes. It was so... Not witty. She had no idea why she hung out with these people. They weren't even close to her par of intelligence.

"So Slytherin.... equals snake.... well... they certainly know how to place them. Hufflepuff.... what exactly is that, a bear/ Badger? Anywhere close?" His head shook once. Now wasn;t the time for that. "To avoid makin' you call me 'Beauxbatons Boy', name's Aeden, Aeden Galesworth." Oh, this was going to be SO much fun... He'd known people like the newcomers... in elementary school. The bullies that picked on people because no one would lift a finger to help the defenseless weakling. Sometimes, though, that weakling isn't weak.

Now, what he was about to do.... this next few seconds, were completely based on his perfect acting skills and being friends with actual gay people for so long, he'd been able to mimic them out of sheer.... well, because he could and it was funny. His head inclined a bit, his hand to his chin. He was staring at the group, thinking for a moment. "Well, I gotta say... The one on the left has a nice... figure... about him. All lean and those eyes... Oh those eyes! But see, I'm just the new guy, I need the opinion of someone who's done this for a couple years. You know, stalked men and all that." His grin returned. Well, that was more exciting than he thought. Kind of scared him, but hey, it was worth it.

Now, moving on, his stance dropped back, all relaxed as he was when speaking with Rose. "Miss Lane, was it? 'Pure'? Not exactly. What I think you're thinking of? No." Oh, he saw that look before, every time a boy named Dracov walked down the halls of his old school. The only thing Aeden could do to keep from laughing was to simply look away. Why was it that most girls loved men in tight pants? It was disgraceful to the male species.

Was it that he didn't have the right stuff, or was it the different stuff? What he'd gathered so far was one thing, but the shivers from Rose pointed to something more that others weren't showcasing.

His attention, even through all of this, never truly left Rose. Everything else, all of these events and words and such. All of it was simply white noise to him.

The soft chime that followed Johnathon's entrance was quickly hushed, as if the little bell was fearful of his intent. It had good reason to be though, John was in a good mood which meant people could end up hurting. The eerie cane made of Goblin finger bones made a very unique sound as it rapped on the ground repeatedly, more a show of wealth than it was an actual orthopedic aid. Then again everything about John's changed appearance was a show of force or wealth, he wasn't himself anymore.

Or at least he wasn't the man in the wanted posters all over Diagon alley, you could mistake him at first glance but not if you looked closer. He now had a light goatee and his hair had evened out. Also his nose was slightly crooked and he had put on at least ten pounds and looked healthy. All in all he looked just like he should, just like his would be brother. James Bailey had been dead for quite some time, his reclusive nature though had made everyone else none the wiser. It gave Johnothan a way to get out of the run down mansion that was inheritance.

"I placed an order for three rare books early last week, I explained that my original prints had been stolen and that this was to be a special print of those titles are they ready?" Johnathon's noble voice rolled off his tongue in a constant condescending tone, as if everyone in the world was either dumber or inferior to him.

"Sir we get a lot of orders here could you be a little more specific?" The man spoke respectfully, if not fearful. IT was easy to see he had no clue what was going on.

"What is incompetence a common trait around here? Three rare first edition books are requested to be reprinted and you can't remember which ones? I knew standards were low for the sales industry but can you honestly not remember customers who offers large amounts of galleons? Are you part troll by chance? From the look on your face it is leading me to believe that the incompetence is not entirely your fault. It would have to be hereditary if you were spawned by some oaf dumb enough to have a romp around with one of those smelly things."

"Hey! Don't you talk about my-" The man grew defensive immediately, his two shop boys rose out of their chairs as well. Both were barely out of school but they were of good size for heavy lifting that was a career hazard with books.

"Or you'll what? Honestly come on, string a sentence together with the correct literate and grammatical structure and not only will I apologize. I'll give you each ten galleons. No? Thought so. Now get my books before I get seriously disheveled and lose my temper."

The man grumbled something and the two boys disappeared, that was probably for the better. They didn't look too intelligent, the kind that might think they could take John down with their fists. Now that was amusing, John turned and looked around the shop. A few students here and there, mostly in small groups, they only had fifteen days before he would start ruining their lives. Unless of course the Ministry got off their hands and did something, but that was a very rare chance. There was a sharp pain in John's hand that brought his attention back to the counter behind him.

Three large old and heavy books were now perched precariously on top of John's right hand. He had a smirk on his face as he turned to walk away but John was faster, his wand shooting up in his other hand and the boy flew over the counter into the small open area where shoppers stood to wait in line. John's face was a light with a very seriously dangerous look, and the shop keep stood in horror behind the counter still.

"A good laugh? A mighty fine bit of a joke? Did you ever think to look at the person who was speaking to you? Could you not notice the personal possessions that I display to show to the world who I am? A cane made from solid bones, robes of dark suede perfectly tailored, a beret with insignias of the Slytherin house showing an alumni status, and too top it off I'm wearing a dragon skin belt with Mokeskin pouches and a holster for my wand. That should tell you that my gold reserves and status eclipse yours in a way that you can not comprehend, I'm an aristocrat. That means I spend my days dining with Ministry officials and making donations to persuade people that whatever it is I want is in their best interest. Take this current predicament you are in now, If I were to show up too my lunch in an hour with the Head of the Department of Magical Law enforcement with my hand bruised like this because I have no time to stop by St. Mungos he would then launch a full inquiry on my behalf. It is such a shame people like you can not learn to behave, when this world is righted your kind will be barely above the muggles. I'm a kind man though and I wouldn't won't your dear old Da there thinking I'm about to have his son carted off. So pick up your wand boy, show them how manly you are and defend his honor the Wizarding way, I'll even give you the first shot."

The boy seemed like he was in a daze but quickly picked up on what was going on and threw his wand forward, he muttered his spell in a rough grunt and John didn't even make it it out. In one swift move Jon's wand came up like lightning and the boy's spell disappeared into John's wand. Then John muttered softly, "Reducto." The blast caught the boy in the chest and he was thrown against one wall with some serious force, there was also a burn mark in his shirt where it had impacted him. He was still alive though. John turned on the spot and eyed the books he had ordered, "Oh dear, I ordered Magic is Might not Magic is Right. I guess his reading skills are just as low as his spell working ability, can you go get the right one?"

"Now see here you won't get away with this?" The shopkeep spoke with a renewed vigor.

"Get away with what my good man? I followed the law to the tip of the blade, let's look over the transgressions. I asked for an order that was preplanned, you acted dumbfounded, I grew irate, your son there smashed my hand with a book, I appropriately moved him out of a danger zone in case of a fight breaking out, he attacked me, I defended myself and ended the confrontation quickly so that none of these fine student's were injured. Just where did I break the law in anyway? And I would also like to add that my knowledge of spells and curses is just as adequate as my dear brother's, so the knowledge that I used restraint would only work far against you in any proceeding." Calm, cool, ingenious in action, and rightfully placed to leave one safe. A true demonstration for the gaggle of slytherins in the corner.

"And just who the ruddy hell would your brother be? Another secretary in your pocket?"

"Oh no! Quite the opposite, you have his picture plastered in your front window so I thought you would recognize it with ease. We do look quite alike. Of course the Bailey men never veered far in the course of our appearance, I mean once you achieve perfection why mess with anything too much." John strode over and prodded the young man with his cane, "Inferior to say the least, happens in these lesser families."

"When your heart is broken a thousand times..."

Rosalynn watched the man, who had introduced himself as Aeden, with mild curiousity. She thought that he was acting gay. He certainly hadn't taken that stance when he'd been talking to her before Issac and Elaine had joined them, but then, one never knew.

Rosalynn couldn't help the giggle that escaped her mouth when Aeden implied that Issac had been man hunting before, which earned her a firm glare from Issac. Uh-oh. That always meant a howler. Lane giggled too, but for some reason Issac didn't send her the same hateful glare he sent Rose. Maybe he expected it from Eliane. Either way, Rose's mood severely dropped and she gained a frosty glare at Issac.

"Well, I think he might have some of the Slyth traits, but you're right. Sadly, he wouldn't be in our house even if he was a pureblood." Elaine said, breaking the tension slightly between Rose and Issac.

"Issac, I think it's time you went sobbing to mummy." Rosalynn said darkly, her hand firmly gripping the wand she'd just pulled out of her jacket in a flash. Issac didn't have time to pull out his wand, though, when the bells chimed and dragged his attention from her and Aeden. Rose's blood ran cold.

This was a man she'd only heard rumors about. The wanted posters plastered all over the Alley were enough for her to recognize him immediately and while Issac looked at him with complete and total admiration, Rose spiked a little fear into her adoration. This man was completely intimidating, and powerful on top of all of that. Subconsciously, she backed against the shelf behind her.

She watched the scene with only mild interest, but Elaine and Issac pressed closer to the action, likely hoping the Bailey man would acknowledge them. Rose couldn't care less. She had too much attention from dark people as it was, she didn't want anymore.

Nevertheless, she gathered her things and put the book back on the shelf, morely to have something to do besides watch the outright violence. Yes, she admired this man, but she didn't want to be like him. She admired his power, that was about it.

Rosalynn wasn't looking forward to that Howler, but she had no doubt in her mind she'd get it before the day was out. Issac had no problem running and crying to Rose's mom about the "muggle" things she did. The b*****d.

Aeden always had these gut feelings, and ninety-nine percent of the time, they were dead on. Right now, his gut was saying: 'Man equals dangerous." That was backed up by the fact that the boy, Issac, was in la la land just because of the man's presence.

He slowly inches is way in a side shuffle to get behind Issac and Lane, then tugged slightly on Rose's sleeve. "Wanna get out of here?" he asked softly so the other two wouldn't be able to hear. If they acted now, they could slip out without being noticed.

Something about Rose made Aeden curious. She was a human puzzle. She wore a mask. No matter how small a mask it might have been, it was still there, and that just screamed 'Challenge'. He loved challenges.

"When your heart is broken a thousand times..."

Rose was slightly caught off guard and yanked her arm away from him out of instinct, however she looked at him with puzzled eyes and nodded. She didn't want to risk anyone here expecting things of her. Where to go, though, was the greater question. Everywhere she went, if she was with him, she'd better be acting annoyed, angry, and cruel. People expected things of the Factionist's daughter.

Without a word, Rosalynn's wand was back in her jacket and she was slinging her bag over her shoulder. She walked past Aeden, walking to a side door that she'd spoted earlier and had been tempted to see where it went. Now that the front door was blocked, she was about to find out. With a halfblood. That thought concerned her. Rose knew she couldn't form any kind of attachment to this man. Not only was he not a Slytherin, she didn't need some stupid hat to tell her that, but he wasn't a pureblood. Her parents would murder her. Or rather, they'd have her murdered. Or maybe they'd draft her into the faction early and make him her first kill.

He was in danger if he talked to her, and she was in danger if she was seen talking to him. There were no benefits that could come out of this that would outweigh the costs. Ever. But, Issac was probably drafting the letter describing Rose's encounter with this halfblood, so what was one day? She hated half bloods, but the Beauxbaton's boy interested her and she always did do what she wanted in the long run.
