(an excerpt from a new novel i started writing "Rosary Laurel, a brave new start)

Aloof in the sky hung the gaurdian by the strings of faith in his wings. The labrith of glitter and soft white feathers seemed to be a stream rather than wings as an unnatural mist floated around him. Below him on the ground was the object of desire that kept him there. The treasure his fair blue eyes rest upon. She odd appearence made one wonder where she had escaped from, whether it be the circus or a foreign nation, she was out of place. No one noticed the large winged dream boat that hovered just above her artifically blackened hair and porcelin skin. She was a troubled soul and need the supernatural stranger to keep her sane (though most would consider her insane for speaking of such things). She wondered down the streets of the place she once called home. A small town with brick streets at one corner and chipped pavement in the other. The centre of town was quaint in Victorian colors to match the 'historical' buildings. Most of the real structures had been lost in the same day as the birth of her guardian's duty. The fire that kept this town small and restricted.
People peered at her with discust as she walked down the street in her neons contrasting black and her in general foreign look. No one would have guessed who she was back in the day as she had changed so much. The changes brought on her seeing of her guardian now as she hadn't seen before.
"Laurel Rosary..." her name spoken so softly and lovingly by her guardian. She had lost close to everything but just him whispering her name made her feel as though not all was gone around her. His voice was calming and smooth, the name rolling off his tongue and sliding through her ears.
"ROSARY!!!!" hollered a familar voice in the distance, "THAT YOU ROSARY???" It was a female voice. Laurel whipped her head around, her eyes widened as she started at the familar stranger. She twitched slightly at the sight as this was not someone she wanted to see now... or ever for that matter. She only relaxed when her guardian rested a hand on her shoulder. Only she could see him and she knew this dispite this person before her's intent to surpass her in everyway.
"Angellica..." muttered Laurel.
"I knew it was you! I haven't seen you in ages! really! You never called... how was Japan or where ever you went? Did you bring me something?" she spoke as if they were still best friends dispite the past 5 or 6 years... It had been 4 years since Laurel had been back to her home town and with good reason...
Angellica... the backstabber of death.
"Laurel Rosary..." her guardian whispered in her ear and she relaxed from her twitching and cringing. Angellica stood there looking at her with a bright smile, obviously totally a phony as she had to remember how much the hurt Rosary back in the days of highschool.
"Japan was wonderful... I'll be going back soon but i came back to see my family for a bit and get my job arrangements down... that and i have the paperwork to deal with... How've you been?" she replied trying to be friendly though she was giving off a strong feeling of hostility. Angellica was one of the last people she had wanted to run into and yet now she was standing there having to talk to her lest she be accused of being particularly rude.. and heave forbid a Rosary girl be considered rude.
"Oh, me? Well I went to community college and work that the high school as a secretary... but they really needed one because the old one died... you remember how old she was right? Anyways... i don't plan on staying here long either... i've got the world to see and work on my Spanish... oh... did you ever get your certification in Japanese? Probably not right?" she laughed slightly, "What on earth did they do to you over there? You look terrible in that neon and black! You should come over to my place and we can get you back to normal ya?" it was one insult after another with her wasn't it? Laurel tensed up, her guardian's arms around her keeping her from hitting the girl. She ground her teeth enraged, "I did get my certification and i happen to like their fashion trends... and you have your own place?" she replied with a totally fake smile.
"Oh, no... i moved back in with my parents..." she replied with a huge smile, "but as i said i'm out of here soon... this place is totally lame..."
Laurel twitched again.
"Who are you staying with? Jared?" she asked knowing that they had broken up at the end of senior year.
"No... you know we aren't an item... we haven't been for years..." she muttered back, "I'm staying with my rents right now but i've only been back for about two days now and will be leaving in less than a month..." she replied.
"Oh?" she replied, "where you going? back with all the stupid Japs?" Laurel struggled against her guardian's grasp wanting to hit the ignorant little b***h but she couldn't reach, "Well i guess i'll be seeing you... I've got a date with Jose... toodles!" she waved and with that fake little smile she turned and left.
"Laurel... is there a story there?" asked her guardian... She had only gotten him once she left the country...
She nodded in response, "I don't want to talk about it... we'll leave it in the past where it belongs..."
