Long, long ago, the Emporor proclaimed twelve animals would be chosen for the Zodiac, if they could win a race. The first twelve animals to cross the wide and raging river would be in the Zodiac. Among the many who wished to try, there were two best friends; Cat and Rat. When the time came to cross the river, Cat knew neither her nor rat would manage the swim. Cat kindly asked Ox to carry her and her friend across the river. Ox wasn't the brightest animal, but he was strong and had a kind heart, and gladly agreed. When the three were in the center of the dangerous river, Rat's true colors showed. With a mighty push, he shoved Cat off the slicked wet back of the Ox. Cat struggled and choked in the river, knowing exactly what had happened. She thrashed and fought in the water until finally, when the moon was high in the sky, she dragged herself out on a small shore. From that day she vowed Cat's and Rat's would be enemies forever, and that she would destroy the Zodiac she loved so much.
...And she intends to keep her promise.
Many years later, Cat had discovered a dark and forbidden jade potion. She opened her soul to the evil in exchange for unimaginable power and a jade army. Her snow-white pelt slowly turned to a glossy black, her claws and nose turned to jade, and her eyes burned with cold hatred.
Dragon, leader of the Zodiac, sees this impending doom. As the Zodiac are slowly picked off one by one and turned to jade statues, he knows that those who had always revered the Zodiac were now their only hope. The humans.
They will choose their Zodiac form, learn to master their elements, destroy evil and earn their wings as Angels of the Zodiac!
My story basically goes back to an ancient Chinese legend that the Rat tricked the Cat out of being in the Zodiac, and I just wondered how Cat would've taken that because the two were supposedly best friends.
I've been working on this story since around the beginning of the Summer, but there's still a long way to go with it, but I've developed a lot of unique things for my story and good villains and such. Some of the progress can be seen at my deviantart;
