The only reason I'm doing this is because Robin goaded me back into this guild by mentioning that there are wrestling games. I took it as a challenge, and being the competitive guy that I am, I will BURNING LARIAT THE s**t OUT OF HER politely state my case for wrestling games.

Wrestling games are pretty much like fighting games, only instead of shooting a fireball at your opponent, you powerbomb him. There's a slight difference, unless you're playing Virtua Fighter, and you're either El Blaze (my favorite character of all time ever) or Wolf Hawkfield.

You could also be playing Bloody Roar, and you're playing as Mitsuko, but that doesn't count. NOT EVER.

Anyway, wrestling games; they're actually a lot of fun. In fact, the thing about WWE games in particular is, that they tend to make their games fun for people that don't actually watch wrestling, what with their very (very) detailed Create-a-Wrestler program.
People often create themselves, but its also possible to create exact replicas of movie characters (In some cases, I've seen the likes of Darth Vader, Harry Potter, and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS) to take to the ring. You haven't lived until you've made Sweeney Todd piledrive a guy through a table, this I tell you.

Of course, in my opinion, the best wrestling game of all time is Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, because Japan. Literally every famous wrestler from the Land of the Rising Sun is in the game, including a few others from around the world. Not only that, but the character sprites and AI actually act like the wrestlers they're based on. It may feel like you're playing a SNES Game on the PS2, but I personally always get a kick out of putting Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa (RIP) in the ring together, and they act out EXACTLY LIKE KOBASHI AND MISAWA DO.

...Ahem.

Anyway. Wrasslin' games. They's fun.

I played one of the Fire Pro games & ehh they're ok. Think my fav wrestling games are still Saturday Night Slammasters & WWF's No Mercy.

Wrestling games are stupid to me.

I don't see the point in taking a fake sport anyway, and turning it into a bloody beat-'em-up fest.

Even ******** MK vs. DCuniverse is better that most wrestling games. It's just ways for the failing wrestling industry to make a little extra bank.

Soul Calibur, Mace: The Dark Age, Dark Rift, those are good games.

I'm not a football fan but saying Madden games are stupid based solely on my dislike of the sport is...well stupid.

Ugh...Soul Caliber isn't much of a game as it is as practice of button mashing. Really, a wild chimp could beat every game in that series. Most wrestling games at least require some sort of skill & strategy to play whereas I managed to beat Soul Caliber with my eyes closed(I was really bored that day).

I'm not nearly as big a fan of the industry as I used to be as it's done some really crappy stuff lately but if they can keep making poorly thrown together anime-ish RPG games(I don't care how pretty Final Fantasy looks, they haven't made a good one since the 16-bit era) to cash in on the anime fanboys/girls, I think there's plenty of space for more wrestling games no matter how badly they're doing on TV in the US.

Mortal Kombat is more about the button mashing that Soul Cal could ever be

Nah, pulling off a special attack in Mortal Kombat is about as easy as safe cracking aside from the Wii version which yeah, was silly easy. Bet my dad could kick a** in Soul Caliber if I handed him the controls while he was having a seizure.

It takes me forever to figure out the special moves in MK. They get really really hard. And I am not very good at soul calibur...

I don't like MK, so I won't comment.

Soul Calibur can get button mash-y at times, but its not going to do you any good if you're playing on a higher setting than medium. Your attacks are going to get reflected if you keep flailing at the controller like a retard.

In the case of wrestling games, there's no real combo experience need, which makes it very accessible to people who don't normally play fighting/sports games. In wrestling games, its all about timing, especially in the Fire Pro games. In that sense, its also about building your match. If you're starting out your match, and you immediately go for, say, a backdrop driver, you're going to get lariated out of your boots. You'd be much better off either wearing your opponent down with holds, or striking him until he's too weary to fend off your stronger attacks.

There's a lot more science to wrestling games than I think anybody realizes.

WCW vs. NWO Revenge = Best Wrestling Game EVER. I'm still waiting for someone to top it. It's that damn good.

Yeah, that engine needs to make a return. I'd like to see a Wiiware game with the same game play but to beat the copyrights, strip away the real life wrestlers as we can easily re-make clones of them on our own or in my case make a roster of originals. They could call it "CAW is War" or something.

Y'know what? Revenge is great. In fact, I'd go as far to say that its better than No Mercy. Its especially great if you want to relive Rey Mysterio vs. Eddy Guerrero from Halloween Havoc '97, and you get to do JUST that.

But Fire Pro is still king.

I always facinated by wrestling games because it takes no intelligence whatsoever to play it.

A gimped dog could play wrestling games. Not to dis, but they're so easy. I'll be honest, I love playing them. Nothing like beating the life out of somebody with a metal pipe. But really, if I seriously wanted a fight, I'd walk down the street. God forbid the Captain ever get a peaceful walk.
