Though the section is titled "Computer Games", I hope it doesn't mean that too literally. If it does, I apologize for any misplacement.
I suddenly felt the need to create a thread for favorite videogames (well, obviously). I'd say that people should judge videogames based both on their gameplay and story (and maybe other additional things, such as music), not just one facet.
My favorite videogames, as of now, are the Kingdom Hearts series (I really enjoyed the story, and I believe the three main characters to be pretty original), most of the four Devil May Cry games (Dante has a fun personality), and the two Dark Cloud games (they both have what can be called some of the best videogame music ever. Well, in competition with the Zelda games). All play very well and all have original stories. And all have really good music.
Any opinions? (and yes, videogame is now its own compound word)

I'm going to say my ultimate favorite is Pokemon because I'm..sentimental and naff [/cough]
Seriously though, I really love Penumbra: Overture, Shadow of the Colossus and Silent Hill 2. All of them have the same thing in common: interesting characters. Penumbra seized by the soul with its overall idea. I went through many trials just to find, not even an answer, but a way out of my predicament. I never had to look for the "truth", I never had to rescue anyone. I loved that all the challenges just required basic knowledge (rather, reading; you get lots of notes and instructions) and never once threw anything out of the blue at me. I'm going to compare it to Fatal Frame and Resident Evil; while I love those games, they never made sense as to why puzzles and tricks seemed to be everywhere. Penumbra, however, gave it to me straight and let me know what would kill me and all I had to figure out was what to do about it. Shadow of the Colossus had an ultimately predictable ending but it was wonderful in the sense that the player really is a tragic hero. Wander lacks bravado and knows that what he's doing is wrong (I think so, at least) but he personally accomplishes so much. And in the end, the consequences of killing the colossi did come back, and not to mention, so many questions were left open and though a lot of reviewers found that to be a bad point, I found it to be good. It let me think, it let me interpret, and it played with me emotionally which just made me love it even more. SotC made me feel and that's just the best part. SH2 has a special place in my heart. I actually didn't expect to love the game, or not really at least. At the beginning, you didn't really even have a character to play, just..a robot. Pretentious robot at that--well, that's how I felt. But as he started to grow it became less annoying and more special, as rather than watching somebody be waxing pseudo-philosophical like I originally assumed, it was more like watching somebody just trying to survive in a world gone to s**t while drowning themselves in emotions they didn't--couldn't--understand. I even hate James still!
That's enough of my long post though. razz

Everyone should experience the (good) Pokemon game(s) for themselves rather than be sucked into the opinions of the stigma upon it. It's not bad because everyone says its bad.
Looking at Penumbra, the physics remind me of the physics in Half-life/Portal. (Portal is another amazing game)
Shadow of the Colossus is fantastic. I actively kept myself from predicting the end so it would surprise me. Some open ended parts of it may be solved when keeping in mind that Shadow of the Colossus is supposed to be some sort of prequel to Ico....

Penumbra does seem a bit like Half-Life and Portal, and there was, at one point, a little hats-off to Half-Life. A crowbar I had had Freeman on it. On that note, I find that they're good games but I personally don't like them. (Although for some reason I'm still a fan of Half-Life 2..)
Personally I don't like looking at SotC as a prequel to Ico. It definitely clears some things up, but SotC was a game that knew how to stand on its own feet and never once fell on its face, so I want to see it for what it is by itself. It's considerably more difficult that way, but, meh.

I was really young when I got my first personal console (Sega Genesis...lol), and while I played it (gah, I had to be like...ten...or so) my favorite game was The Lion King since it was my obsession. There was a major glitch in it. You could play all the way to the end, and if you pressed two opposite directions really fast it would restart the game entirely. crying
But anyway, I want to play Shadow of the Colossus...but I don't have it. My boyfriend does, and it's his favorite game ever.
As for my personal faves, I kind of like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for the fun stuff and fun music. Same goes for God of War. The Legend of Zelda holds a special place. Currently working on playing Mass Effect. That game is actually really fun for me and plays sorta like a movie.
Generally, I hate first-person shooters and RPGs, but I do have exceptions. I hate Halo. Lol.
..and obviously the only computer game I play is LotRO, because that's just about all the memory on my laptop will hold. sweatdrop

I hate Halo too. High five!
Prince of Persia was mind-blowing for me but at the same time it drove me absolutely bonkers, heh. I wasn't interested in the combat but the environmental puzzles were wonderful. (Now if only they weren't making a movie about it..)

The Prince of Persia (Sands of time) series is very good. In the second one, it was really fun to figure out that the Dahaka spoke in reverse. You can actually rewind right after he says something to hear it normally. It sounds very cool.
The God of War games are also good, I like Greek mythology and all, but it seems that it went out of its way to be much more brutal/vulgar than it needed to. Not many complaints with it though.
The Shadow of the Colossus is amazing on its own, I was just saying that it was called a "spiritual prequel" to Ico, and I thought it might help with any story holes....
I have the Orange Box for PS3, so I've only played Half-life 2. I really, really like Portal though. GLaDOS is amazing. And crazy. And the portals themselves are endlessly fun to mess with.

The RE series is great up until 5.
Silent Hill I didn't like at first, but I've recently fallen in love with it.
The Fallout games are some of my favorites, Fallout 3 could have been better, but for being post-apoc Oblivion it was fantastical and amazing.
Earthbound. That game... That game is simply amazing on all levels. It has to be one of my favorite games and I don't even care for RPGs much, but it's too amazing not to love.
Heh. Rock Band and DDR. They're just simple fun. I don't understand why people don't like them. I think they're games that people hate until they start to understand that they're just not good at them. I used to hate DDR until I spent the day learning how to play it, then I learned that I hated it because I couldn't play it because I was rhythmically retarded, but since I've grown to love them.
There's other games, but I'm in no state to be thinking.

Yeah, Resident Evil is...Resident Evil. It's always fun to kill zombies. The fourth was fun, though it was weird/funny that the "zombies" spoke Spanish....
Personally, I like Guitar Hero much more than Rock Band. The Rock Band controller(s) and interface are just... not good/fun.
DDR is always fun, if you can get yourself to move correctly. Now, Mario DDR is hilarious.

I prefer Pump It Up to DDR, simply because 5 steps was more challenging to learn as opposed to 4--especially when you wore everything out in hard mode.
I'm a fan of the first Fallout. It's dark and it's humorous, the world in it is fully realized and the dialogue is witty enough to slip into a Tarantino movie. It all makes for an interesting ride. Not to mention, I love how you have control over who you are and who you're going to be. A muscle-man so stupid that NPCs have to use baby talk with him? Why sure. A charismatic thief who talks her way into the hearts and wallets of local government officials and crime lords? Worked for me. Hell, I could've been a prostitute if I wanted. It's possible to get through the entire game without getting into a single fight, redefining what "open-ended gameplay" means.

My all-time favorite video game? I have too many to name.
The two that come to mind right now are the oh-so-overrated Final Fantasy VII, followed by Pokémon Snap.
...Actually, I think I like Pokémon Snap a little more.

...Actually, I think I like Pokémon Snap a little more. I never found a copy of VII, but I really liked Final Fantasy X.... Yes; Pokémon Snap! I went out and downloaded the entire (original n64) game to my Wii system. The Nintendo corporation should make a new one. With more pokémon. And better graphics.
