Ear PiercingsHISTORYThe ear-lobe was probably man's first attempt at body piercing due to the ease with which it can be pierced. The oldest mummified body in the world was found frozen in an Austrian Glacier in 1991, tests showed the body to be over 5,000 years old. The body had pierced ears and the holes had been enlarged to 7-11mm diameter. Ears were probably first pierced for magical purposes, very many primitive tribes believe that demons can enter the body through the ear, because demons and spirits are supposed to be repelled by metal, ear-piercing prevents them entering the body. Sailors used to have an ear pierced to improve eyesight, and if the bodies washed up somewhere it would pay for a christian burial. In many societies ear piercing is done as a puberty ritual, in Borneo the Mother and Father each pierce one ear as a symbol of the child's dependance on their parents. Ear piercing is an almost universal practice for men and women, it's only in western society that it's deemed effeminate. At various times in history men wore elaborate earrings; during the Elizabethan era many famous men such as Shakespeare, Sir Walter Raliegh and Francis Drake wore gold rings in their ears. "As the Roman Republic grew more effeminate with wealth and luxury, earrings were more popular among men than women; no less a he-man than Julius Caesar brought back to repute and fashion the use of rings in the ears of men." "Jewels & Women; The Romance, Magic and Art of Feminine Adornment" Marianne Ostier, Horizon Press, New York, 1958 HEALINGThe ear-lobe and the Helix are some of the fastest parts of the body to heal, it usually takes 6-10 weeks to heal and problems are very rare. Cartilage piercings however, are more prone to problems, this is because it doesn't heal in the same way as flesh. The most common problem is small lumps which form around the piercing, these are called granulomas and usually occur because the piercing has been knocked or the jewellery has been taken out and re-inserted damaging the wound. The best course of action to heal Granulomas is to apply hot compresses to the wound once or twice a day. Put a clean paper towel under hot tap water, make sure that it's not hot enough to burn the skin, but hot enough to penetrate the wound. Leave on till the heat dissipates, do this twice a day. If that doesn't work the best course of action is to remove the jewellery for a short period of time to allow the wound to heal. when the lump goes down (usually 4-5 days) the jewellery may be reinserted, however, if the lump starts to come back it's best to leave it heal and have it re-pierced at a later date. Another problem are "Keloids" these are lumps which come from excessive scar tissue formation, this problem is genetic and people with black or dark skin are especially prone to it. If a Keloid develops it's best to remove the jewellery as they can be very hard to treat, the best treatment is the application of "Cortisone" cream which you must get on prescription from a physician. It has been noted that keloids tend to form more often around the exit hole, due to the action of the needle, which slices a crescent-shaped opening. If you develop any problems come and see me, I will help you free of charge that is the service that you pay for when you get the piercing, don't be embarrassed to see me it's my job to help you! PLACEMENTclick image to make it larger Antitragus: A piercing is made through the extrusive ridge of cartilage opposite the tragus. In most cases, a straight or curved barbell is advisable over a ring. Bridge, Industrial, Ladder: A barbell pierced through the two sides of the upper pinna so that it looks like a bridge. Conch: Piercings made straight through the shell of the ear cartilage. The Conch piercings are sometimes described as either "lower" and "upper", the dividing line being the Crus helix. The piercing is usually done initially with a barbell, but once it's healed a large ball-closure ring may be inserted, spiked labret studs are sometimes worn as well "Daith": A piercing made through the Crus helix, the inner-most ridge of cartilage above the Tragus. Of the interior ear cartilage piercings the Daith is usually the most successful as it is not subject to pressure from sleeping and irritation from daily activities. Helix: Piercings made through or around the upper, curled edge of the ear, including the curled edge towards the face. If the curl is extreme or wide, a piercing made parallel to the plane of the head through the apex of the curl will be more comfortable. In this instance, a piercing made perpendicular to the plane of the head would require a large diameter ring to allow for proper healing which would be too large to comfortably fit between the ear and head. Lobe: The most common piercing of the ear, can be pierced several times depending on it's size. One of the fastest of all piercings to heal. Orbital: A ring through the upper conch so that the ring comes out either side. "Rook": A piercing made through the antihelix, the ridge above the "Daith" ridge. More prone to rejection/migration. "Snug": A horizontal piercing of the antihelix, across from the tragus. This piercing isn't suitable for all people. Top-Ear "Pinna": The outer rim of the ear extending from the top of the Helix to the Daith. The second most common piercing, it has become quite popular because it's novel without being to extreme. Usually takes 12 months to heal and is more prone to Granulomas because of hair pulling on it and lying on it during sleep. Tragus: The prominence of cartilage in front of the opening of the ear canal. This piercing is a little bit more painful than other cartilage piercings because it's very thick, usually takes at least 12 months to heal. Tranverse: A horizontal piercing through the lobe with a barbell.

Nose Piercings
HISTORY Nose piercing is very attractive, and can accentuate the face, because the nose is the face's most prominent feature; Leonardo Da Vinci believed that the nose set the character of the whole face.
Nose piercing was first recorded in the Middle East aproximately 4,000 years ago, it is mentioned in The Bible in Genesis 24:22 Abraham requested his oldest servant to find a wife for his son Isaac, the servant found Rebekah, and one of the gifts he gave her was a "golden earring" the original Hebrew word used was Shanf, which also translates as "nose-ring"
This practice is still followed among the nomadic Berber and Beja tribes of Africa, and the Bedouins of the Middle East, the size of the ring denotes the wealth of the family. It is given by the husband to his wife at the marriage, and is her security if she is divorced.
Nose piercing was bought to India in the 16th Century from the Middle East by the Moghul emperors. In India a stud (Phul) or a ring (Nath) is usually worn in the left nostril, It is sometimes joined to the ear by a chain, and in some places both nostrils are pierced. The left side is the most common to be pierced in India, because that is the spot associated in Ayuvedra (Indian medicine) with the female reproductive organs, the piercing is supposed to make childbirth easier and lessen period pain.
In the west nose piercing first appeared among the hippies who travelled to India in the Late 1960's. It was later adopted by the Punk movement of the late 1970's as a symbol of rebellion against conservative values, and conservative people like parents and employers still don't react well to it, so consider their reaction carefully before getting it done.
Nowadays nose piercing is gradually becoming more socially acceptable, and many celebrities have their nose pierced i.e. Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, Sinead O'Connor, and Slash from Guns & Roses.
JEWELLERY The original piercing can be done with either a stud or a ring. There is a definite spot on the nose for a stud, but a ring can be placed in various spots. I recommend that a piercing with a ring be done in the place for a stud, just in case you want to change to a stud at a later date.
The jewellery must be Hypo-allergenic, meaning that it should have no adverse affects on the body, so the only metals you should use are Niobium, Titanium, 18ct White & Yellow Gold, Platinum, or Palladium. Silver should never be worn in the nose during healing, because it oxidises inside the wound, and can cause allergic reactions, lumps, and can leave a permanent black mark on your nose.
Once the piercing is healed you can change the jewellery as easily as changing an earring, you can wear gold and coloured niobium rings and studs, studs set with gemstones, or studs with tiny shapes i.e moons, dolphins, hearts.
THE GUN VS. THE NEEDLE Before there were professional Body Piercers around, some people used to get their nose pierced using the Ear Piercing Gun. Now there is no excuse for this practice, all nose piercing should always be done using a needle, there are a host of reasons for this.
The Gun was designed to be sterile because of the no touch principle, no skin came in contact with the gun and therefore it was safe to be used repeatedly, because it is made of plastic it can't be Autoclaved, and is therefore unsterile if the gun comes in contact with the inside of the nose. Potentially fatal micro-organisms (Staphyloccocus Aureus), can therefore be transmitted between customers, and as aproximately 30% of the population have residant colonies of Staph. Aureus in their noses, you have a 1 in 3 chance of developing a potentially fatal infection, because of the proximity of the nose to the brain.
The studs used in the gun were designed to pierce the flesh of the ear, the nose is quite thick cartilage, and in some instances the gun fails to pierce the nose on the first attempt. A needle produces a very quick, short, sharp pain, but because the studs in the gun are quite blunt they are forced through the wound by brute force, this results in trauma to the wound and it can cause pain for several days afterwards.
The whole reason for getting your nose pierced is for aesthetics, it is very hard to sometimes get the proper placement using the gun, and you have a very large unsightly stud in your nose. The needle method gives minimal pain, exact placement, and you can have a tiny stud inserted immediately.

Tongue Piercings
HISTORY Tongue piercing was practised in a ritual form by the ancient Aztecs, Mayas of Central America and the Haida, Kwakiutul, and Tlinglit tribes of the American Northwest. The tongue was pierced to draw blood to propitiate the gods, and to create an altered state of consciousness so that the priest or shaman could communicate with the gods.
Tongue piercing is one of the most popular piercings, it's shocking, provocative and fantastic for oral sex (for both sexes), but at the same time no one need know you have it. Janet Jackson, Keith Flint from Prodigy, Mel B from the Spice Girls and Malcolm Jamahl Warner from the Cosby show all sport pierced tongues.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCES "A tongue piercing is a truly erotic experience for both the piercee and his/her partner. Simply running the top ball of the barbell stud along the roof of the mouth, can only be described as a masturbatory act. It's applications in oral sex should be obvious to the thinking, sensual human being. Mmmmmm." Elayne "Angel" Binnie P.F.I.Q. magazine
"Now it's healed I love it, it feels great and I play with it all the time, and the best thing is all the cute girls I like are dying to kiss me to see what it feels like. I met the most beautiful girl last night and she just couldn't keep her tongue out of my mouth. I'm stoked that I did it, it was really worth the first uncomfortable few days." Personal experience (Anonymous)
PIERCING The actual piercing of the tongue is not painful in itself because the tongue is a muscle with striations, the needle slips between them just like pushing a needle through a piece of fabric. However the tongue can swell and become tender afterwards, sometimes quite dramatically, that's why it's usual to pierce the tongue first with a longer barbell, which is replaced for the proper size when the swelling goes down (usually 8-10 days). The further back from the tip of the tongue the piercing is done, the more swelling there is usually. Some people have a dimple on the front of the tongue this is usually the ideal place to do the piercing.
Tongue piercing is not for the faint of heart, you wont be able to eat solid foods, or talk properly for several days; this can sometimes lead to a short period of depression. Make sure before getting the piercing that you have all the things that you wont be able to have for a week such as steak, chips, chocolate, etc. A last meal for the condemned!
JEWELLERY The most common form of jewellery in tongue piercing are barbells, which are available in surgical steel, gold-plated surgical steel and coloured plastic. The initial piercing must have a longer barbell with larger balls but once it's healed you can wear a barbell with smaller balls. Labret studs and tongue retainers may appeal to those who need to hide their piercing, they have a flat top which makes them less visible and totally invisible if they are painted with flesh coloured nail polish.

Eyebrow Piercing
PLACEMENT The usual place to pierce the eyebrow is at a 35 degree angle from the outside corner of the eye (see illustration on front cover), however, it may be pierced anywhere along the eyebrow from directly above the eye, to the edge of the eyebrow. The eyebrow should never be pierced further in than directly above the eye, because of the presence of the three major Supra-Orbital nerves, piercing one of these nerves can cause permanent damage.
The piercing is usually done at an angle to make the ring sit better, if the piercing is done vertically it sits directly outward and has a greater likelihood of migration (see migration). There is a variation of eyebrow piercings invented by "Angel Binnie" a famous American piercer, this piercing is done horizontally just under the eyebrow so that the ring hangs downwards.
JEWELLERY The usual jewellery for piercing the eyebrow is a 1mm ball closure ring, however, the piercing can also be done with the very small barbells; barbells seem to have less problems, most probably because they are knocked around less than rings.
MIGRATION Migration means the movement of the jewellery out of the skin, in the same way that the body forces out a foreign object like a splinter, it can cause the jewellery to migrate. The amount of skin taken by the initial piercing will decrease until the jewellery eventually grows out altogether. It doesn't matter how well the piercing is done initially, migration can still occur. If you are really concerned about migration the it's best to get the piercing done with a barbell.

Lip/Labret Piercings
HISTORY The piercing of the lips for the insertion of objects into them is very widely practiced throughout the world, however only two tribes pierce the lips with a ring; the Dogon tribe Of Mali, and the Nuba of Ethiopia. Among the Dogon the piercing of the lip has religious significance, they believe that the world was created by their ancestor spirit "Noomi" weaving thread through her teeth, but instead of thread out came speech. All the other lip piercing that is practiced in the world is done with labrets, which can either be a pin of wood, ivory, metal, or even in one case quartz crystals. Among the tribes of Central Africa, and South America the Labret piercing is stretched to extremely large proportions, and large wooden or clay plates are inserted.
Among the ancient Aztecs and Mayans labret piercing was reserved for male members of the higher castes, they wore beautiful labrets fashioned from pure gold in the shape of serpents, golden labrets with stones inset and ones of jade or obsidion (labret in Aztec "Tentetl"). The Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest, and the Inuit peoples of northern Canada and Alaska wore labrets fahioned from walrus ivory, abalone shell, bone, obsidian, and wood.
The Makololo tribe of Malawi wear lip plates in the upper lip called Pelele. The African explorer Dr. Livingstone asked a chief the reason for this, in surprise the chief answered "For beauty! They are the only beautiful things women have. Men have beards, women have none. What kind of person would she be without Pelele ? She would not be a woman at all."
"The plug of wood in the lips, which became little by little a disk, and then a real plaque, was in some manner a sign of possession of the husband of the Djinja woman. It is the man who is to marry her, and very often him alone who operates, transfixing the lips of the young girl with a blade of straw forms the first sign of the deformation to which she will be subject as an adult. It is in sum, a betrothal rite."
Dr. Muraz reffering to the Saras-Djinjas tribe, who insert lip plates up to 24cm in diameter in both lips. Chari River South of Lake Chad in "Nudity to Raiment" Hilaire Hiler London 1929.
Interview with Fiona Horne, ex Lead Singer of Rock Band Def-fx, Radio and TV personality and Witch.
Fiona why did you pick the Labret piercing?
Aesthetically I really like the appearance, I like the idea of the symetry, I often wear bindis and I like lining things up. I experimented with sticking a bindi in the spot with Myrh gum, I found that having it there really made me aware of speech and because I'm a singer speech is very important to me; it seems to focus my energy in the region of my mouth. I like the fact that it's balanced in the center of my face, and I don't like rings in peoples faces.
What did the piercing feel like?
The split second when the piercing was performed was on of the most profound feelings in my life, it almost like losing my virginity, I experienced infinity. it made me aware of how powerful and unimportant I was at the same time. When you voluntarily decide to put a piece of metal through your skin is very empowering thing. The permanent medium of steel being put through the impermanent medium of flesh is a powerful physical symbol of the impermanence of human existance.
What does the piercing mean to you now?
For me my piercing is very personal, I didn't didn't do it to impress anyone or because I'm in a rock band, it's a symbol of a major transition in my life. I would never take it out, on the occasions when I've taken it out to change the jewellery or something it feels as if a part of me is missing. Since I've had the piercing people have seen mine and have gone out and had the piercing just to copy me, but afterwards they've said that the experience made them realise that it's more than a fashion statement; it physical statement of self empowerment.
Any advice for people considering getting a piercing?
Well funny enough I have a segment on JJJ Radio called Feral Beauty and kids call me up and ask advice, I recommend that they try sticking a bindi on or try wearing a fake ring first to see if they really like the piercing before getting it done.
LIP RING OR LABRET STUD? A piercing once healed, will last a lifetime so you must decide carefully if you would rather wear a ring or a stud, the angle of the piercing for a ring and a stud is different. However, you can change later on although a stud will not sit in a ring piercing at as nice an angle. Aesthetically most people prefer the look of a labret stud over a ring, and a stud is more versatile as it's very easy to change the jewellery and there's a huge range of labret studs available now.
PLACEMENT & JEWELLERY The placement for a ring can be virtually anywhere along the lip, and the piercing can be done with either 1m or 1.6mm rings of various diameters depending on taste. Thinner guage jewellery heals quicker but has a greater chance of nesting. Rings are available in Surgical Steel, Gold Plated Steel and solid Gold.
Labrets are done with labret studs are like a small bolt with a ball on one end and a flat plate on the other which goes on the inside of the mouth. These are generally pierced at an angle so the backplate doesn't rub on the gums. Labrets though are mostly positioned in the center of the lower lip about 5-10 mm below the lip-line. Labrets are occasionally positioned in the corner of the upper lip, in the position of an old-fashioned beauty mark. This piercing is called a "Chrome Crawford" after the Model Cindy Crawford. Many different types of Labret stud are available; Surgical Steel, Gold-plated Steel, Glow-in-the-dark Lucite, solid Gold, and 18ct Gold and Steel set with your choice of gemstones.

Septum Piercings
HISTORY The piercing of the septum is probably the second most common piercing among primitive peoples after ear piercing, it's even more common than nostril piercing. It's probably so popular for the same reasons as nose piercing, with the added attraction that the piercing can be stretched and large pieces of jewellery can be inserted, i.e. pig's tusks, pieces of bone, feathers, pieces of wood, etc.
The septum piercing is particularly prevalent among warrior cultures, this probably has to do with the fact that large tusks through the septum give the face a fierce appearance. The use of septum tusks is very prevalent in Irian Jaya, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, pig's tusks being the most popular. Among the Asmat tribe of Irian Jaya the most prestigous septum tusk is the "Otsj" this is a large bone plug, which can be as thick as 25mm. They are usually made of the leg bones of a pig, but occasionally they are made from the Tibia bone of an enemy slain in battle.
The Septum piercing was beloved by the Aztecs, the Mayans, and the Incas. They wore a variety of jewellery, but jade and gold were the most popular because of their religous associations. The modern day Cuna Indians of Panama continue this practice by wearing thick pure gold rings in their septum.
The piercing is also popular in India, Nepal, and Tibet, a pendant "Bulak" is worn, and some examples are so large as to prevent the person being able to eat, the jewellery has to be lifted up during meals. In Rajasthan in Himachal Pradesh these Bulak are particularly elaborate, and extremely large.
Septum piercing was widely practised by many North American Indian tribes, the name of the Nez Perc‚ tribe of Washington state, stem from their practice of piercing the septum, Nez Perc‚ is French for Nose Pierced, and was given to the tribe by the French fur traders. Australian aboriginals pierced the septum and passed a long stick or bone through the piercing to flatten the nose, they believed a flat nose to be the most desireable.
Among the Bundi tribe of the Bismarck Ranges of Papua New Guinea the piercing is performed using the thin end of the Sweet Potato plant (Ogai Iriva), usually at age 18-22. The age at which the piercing is done varies greatly between different tribes, some tribes perform the rite at age 9-10.
"You were lost in the bush and now you have come back. You have come back mature; you are men. When you return to your hamlet many girls will come after you. But if you have lived well, and if they come after you, all the well. You will now have your noses pierced to allow you to sing with girls and lead a life like that of your elders. Your (Kangi Poroi) caused you to go to all this trouble, now it will be over."
Source: Address by tribal elder to young men undergoing the (Kangi Poroi) manhood ritual. Source: Field notes of David G. Fitzpatrick 1977 in "Bundi, the culture of Papua New Guinea people" Ryebuck Publications, Nerang Queensland Australia 1983
PLACEMENT The Septum piercing is done through the small ridge of skin just underneath the middle of the nose between the Alar cartilage (outer) and the Quadrangular cartilage (separating the nostrils). There is usually a small depression in this area towards the front of the nose, this is the best place for the piercing.
JEWELLERY The initial piercing is usually performed with either a ball closure ring or a septum keeper. A septum keeper is shaped like a small horseshoe and can be hidden by pushing the neds up into the nose, it's ideal if you have a job where they don't approve of facial piercings. Another option is a circular barbell, a ring with two balls on the ends; this can also be flipped up inside the nose although it's not as comfortable as a septum keeper.
Once the piercing is healed the hole can be stretched easily and a variety of different jewellery can be worn, tusks, spikes, curled tusks, ball closure rings, curved barbells and circular barbells.

Navel-Ring Piercings
HISTORY Navel piercing is a modern invention and has never been recorded in primitive cultures; however the navel has long been recognised as an erogenous zone, because of the difference between men's and women's stomachs. Women's stomachs differ from men's in that they are more rounded in the lower part, are longer than men's, have a greater distance between the navel and genitals, and are more deeply recessed than men's; these features are often exaggerated by artists to make women appear more feminine in paintings.
The invention of the Bikini in 1953 caused a big stir because the navel was seen as being sexually provocative because of it's similarity to the female genitals. The Bikini revolutionised women's lives, along with the liberation of their clothes their lives in general became more liberated. The process was completed when Madonna started the craze for showing of the midriff in the 1980's. The ability to flaunt their sexuality in public gave women more power and confidence in themselves.
"It is easy to pinpoint the moment when body piercing went mainstream. Christy Turlinton came out at a London Fashion show, and in the middle of her navel was a ring! The next day Naomi Campbell showed the world that anything Christy could do, so could she. A gold ring with a small pearl pierced her navel. And then at Isaac Mizrahi's show the two came out together, navels bared and beringed: body piercing as a Supermodel totem" Suzy Menkes The New York Times September 1994
"I have the most perfect belly button - an inny. When I stick my finger in my belly button, I feel a nerve in the centre of my body shoot up my spine" Madonna Time Magazine 1985
"I like it, I think it's fun!" Naomi Campbell. "I always thought it was a pretty feminine thing to do - and you can always take it out" Christy Turlington.
Shortly after Naomi and Christy had their navels pierced no one was surprised when Madonna, Cher and Janet Jackson were seen wearing navel rings. Now anybody can joins the ranks of Celebrities and Supermodels by having their navel pierced. PLACEMENT There must be a well defined lip to be pierced, usually on the top, but if there is a lip on the bottom it may be pierced there as well. Rings are pierced lower down at a different angle to the navel jewels; so if you really want a navel jewel you're better of getting it pierced with one at first
NAVEL JEWELLERY There is a great variety of rings available for navel piercing; Surgical Steel rings, 22ct Gold plated Surgical Steel rings, rings with charms on them and solid 18ct Gold rings. You can also have crystal beads or Gold plated beads as an extra feature on any of the available rings. And after the piercing is healed you can hang a charm of the ring or put a waist chain through it. Navel jewels can also be worn, they are like a bent barbell with a small ball on top and a larger ball on the bottom which has a gemstone set in it, the gemstone sits in your navel.
PREGNANCY There are several options available to keep your navel piercing once you become pregnant. You can usually keep your original ring in the piercing till about the sixth month of the pregnancy, at this stage the expansion of the skin means that you will have to either take the ring out, replace it with a larger one or a piece of fishing line. Fishing line will keep the piercing open till after the pregancy when you may replace the jewellery. If you have removed the jewellery and the hole has closed up it can be re-opened using a special taper pin.

n****e Piercings
HISTORY Roman Centurions wore leather armour breast plates which were shaped to fit the body and rings were sometimes placed in these breastplates where the nipples appeared to be, the rings were used to hang a cape from. This has led to the belief by some people that the actual nipples were pierced to hang a cape from, but anybody who has had their nipples pierced would tell you that this would be a very uncomfortable practice.
"In the middle of the 14th century...Many women suddenly wore 'such low necklines that you could see nearly half their breasts', and among the upper classes in the same century, Queen Isabella of Bavaria introduced the 'Garments of the grand neckline', where the dress was open to the navel. This fashion eventually led to the application of rouge to freely displayed nipples, those 'little apples of paradise' and to placing diamond studded rings or small caps on them, even to piercing them and passing gold chains through them decorated with diamonds" "Dreamtime" Hans Peter Duerr
In the late 1890s the 'Bosom Ring', came into fashion briefly, and sold in expensive Parisian jewellery shops. These 'Anneux De Sein' were inserted through the n****e, and some women wore on either side linked with a delicate chain. The rings enlarged the nipples and kept them in a state of constant excitation...the medical community was outraged by these cosmetic procedures, for they represented a rejection of traditional conceptions of the purpose of a woman's body." "Anatomy & Destiny" Stephen Kern
"For a long time I could not understand why I should consent to such a painful operation without sufficient reason. I soon, however came to the conclusion that many ladies are ready to bear the passing pain for the sake of love. I found that the breasts of those who wore rings were incomparably rounder and fuller developed than those who did not. My doubts were now at an end...so I had my nipples pierced, and when the wounds were healed, I had rings inserted...with regard to the experience of wearing these rings, I can only say that they are not in the least uncomfortable or painful. On the contrary, the slight rubbing and slipping of the rings causes in me an extremely titillating feeling, and all my colleagues I have spoken to on this subject have confirmed my opinion." London socialite writing in "Vogue" 1890
n****e piercing was once practised by the Karankawa indians of Texas adn is still practised in the Mountains of Algeria, by women of the nomadic Kabyle tribe. In the west n****e piercing has made a resurgence, with many famous people having their nipples pierced ie. Lenny Kravitz, Jaye Davidson (The Crying Game), Gerry Connelly (Comedian), Tommy Lee (Drummer Motley Crue- Husband of Pamela Stephenson Baywatch) and Axl Rose (Guns & Roses).
BENEFITS The benefits of having your n****e pierced are the same today as they were for the fashionable ladies of Paris and London in the 1890s. It makes the nipples larger, more sensitive, more sexually attractive, and provides a constant stimulation of the nipples, one friend of mine describes his n****e piercing as "a lightswitch for an erection". n****e piercing is very effective for increasing the size of small nipples (especially men's), and can stop nipples from becoming inverted by pulling them out. In fact, it was recommended by doctors in Victorian England to increase the size of the nipples to make breastfeeding easier. It provides greater sexual pleasure because it gives your partner something to play with during sex.
JEWELLERY There is a wide range of jewellery available for the piercing of nipples; the most common being the Surgical steel ring. For the initial healing period I believe that barbells or D-rings are superior because they heal quicker because they move less and because the part of the jewellery going through the piercing is straight there is less pressure on the wound. This is more important for women or men with larger nipples because of the depth of the wound.
You can have rings in Surgical Steel, Gold plated Steel, solid 18ct Gold or White Gold. Rings can be decorated with beads, Gold or crystal balls and pendants. You can also wear Steel or gold-plated steel circular barbells (ring with two ball).

Clitoris Hood Piercing
HISTORY The word Kleitoris was used over 2,500 thousand years ago by the ancient Greeks to describe a part of the female genitals, most probably the Labia Minora or Inner lips of the v****a. In 1593 at the trial of a woman accused of witchcraft, the inquisitor (a married man) discovered a Clitoris for the first time. When he saw this "little lump of flesh sticking out to the length of half an inch" he decided that it must be the "Devil's Teat". The other inquisitors, likewise astounded, agreed and on this fact the woman was convicted and executed for witchcraft. The word "Clitoris" first appeared in the English language in 1615, it was used in an early anatomy book to describe a small, sensitive organ located underneath the upper apex of the Labia Minora.
THE CLITORIS The Clitoris is exactly equivalent to the p***s, male and female erections and orgasms are very similar. "The only difference between men's and women's erections, is that men's are on the outside of their body, while women's are on the inside." Sheer Hite "The Hite report" Bloomsbury.
Behind the Clitoral tip or "Glans of the Clitoris (equivalent to the head of the p***s) is the Clitoral "Stem", a couple of centimetres long; while leading down either side of the v****a are two very thin "legs" or suspensory ligaments of the Clitoris. These legs are five or six centimetres in length and follow the line of the Pubic bone, they are shaped roughly like a wishbone and the anchor the Clitoris to the Pubic bone.
The whole structure of the Clitoris forms a triangle, which is bound by the Glans of the Clitoris at it's apex, and the base is formed by the transverse muscle on the far side of the v****a. Within this area are spongy tissue areas which fill up with blood during arousal, until they are roughly equivalent in size to the erect p***s, all this is linked to the muscles in and around the v****a and a**s.
Like the Glans of the p***s, the Glans of the Clitoris is the most sensitive part of the whole Clitoral structure, and can focus and increase the sensations received elsewhere. It is Pressure (direct and indirect) on the Glans which triggers orgasm. All orgasms, whether through penetrative sex or other stimulation, are both Clitoral and Vaginal. They start in the Clitoral system and are experienced through contractions there and in the v****a. If the inner legs of the Clitoris are sufficiently erect, they may grip around the base of the p***s, and this can stimulate the Clitoris by pulling the Clitoris hood backwards and forwards over the Glans of the Clitoris. However, this isn't a very effective means of stimulating the Clitoris, because as it becomes erect the Glans of the Clitoris retracts from the hood and back into the body.
SEXUAL EFFECTIVENESS As a recent report on television showed, 90% of men couldn't find the position of the Clitoris on a detailed medical diagram, if they can't do it in broad daylight with a road map imagine how much trouble they have in the dark! As most women don't receive a great degree of stimulation from penetrative sex, they require some degree of foreplay to be able to orgasm during sex. The piercing also helps with foreplay, because as one women told me "X marks the spot, and he's got no excuse now!", most women also find that their partners like to play with the piercing prior to sex.
the Clitoris hood piercing makes sex far more enjoyable by providing a greater degree of stimulation, the piercing rubs directly on the Glans of the Clitoris and provides the extra sensation required to enable women to orgasm from sex as easily as men. It also makes masturbation very enjoyable because of the extra sensation it gives.
One woman who was classified as clinically frigid by her doctor, on examination found that she had an overdeveloped Clitoris hood which prevented any stimulation of the Clitoris during sex. One week after having a Clitoris hood piercing she experienced the first orgasm of her life.
"After 10 years of marriage we were looking for a boost. We found the answer. The increase in genital sensitivity is tremendous!, and the quality of our love making is beyond belief." Jill, 40
"I never had orgasms from penetrative sex. Now I have one or more every time. Woooh!" Tracey, 34
"I have a pretty small Clitoris, I think, and I've always found it hard to orgasm. My Clitoral hood piercing just made my sex life so much better. I love it. Gawd, I sound like a Weight Watchers ad!" Melanie, 25
"It was just something I wanted to try. The main difference is that you get horny more often, it's constant stimulation, my partner loves it." Cathy, 27, nurse
Quotes from Australian Women's Forum 1995
THE PIERCING Although the Clitoris itself can be pierced, it is quite rare because the Clitoris must be very well developed to be pierced and that only occurs very occasionally. However, if you are considering getting a Clitoris piercing you should get a Clitoris Hood piercing first, this is because the Clitoris Hood piercing causes the Clitoris to grow in size (sometimes three times it's normal size) this makes piercing the Clitoris easier. I don't like to pierce the Clitoris itself because of the danger of hitting the nerve which provides the stimulation in the clitoris and causing permanent loss of sexual function.
The Clitoris Hood piercing is the most common because it is easier to perform, and it also provides a greater degree of sexual stimulation, more than any other piercing (male or female). The Clitoris hood can be pierced either vertically or horizontally, the vertical piercing is the most common, it is usually performed using a barbell. The barbell must be positioned exactly so that the ball sits exactly on top of the Clitoris, it is the ball which provides the extra stimulation that this piercing is famous for. The piercing can be performed horizontally with a ball closure ring, but I believe that the vertical barbell style is more stimulating and comfortable.

Prince Albert Piercings
HISTORY The Prince Albert piercing is named after Prince Albert who was the husband of Queen Victoria of England. He was reputeded to have had this piercing done prior to his marriage to the queen around 1825, at that time Beau Brummel started the craze for ultra tight mens trousers. Because the pants were so tight, the p***s needed to be held to one side or the other so as not to create an unsightly bulge. To accomplish this some men had their p***s pierced to allow it to be held by a hook on the inside of the trousers, this piercing was called a "Dressing Ring" at the time because tailors would ask if a gentleman dressed to the left or the right and tailor the trousers accordingly, tailors to this day will ask if you dress to the left or right.
SEXUAL EFFECTIVENESS The Prince Albert Piercing is very effective for sex, that is why it is the most popular male genital piercing. It provides greater stimulation to both partners during sex, and it has the added allure of being being somewhat kinky, people always have to wonder what it would be like to have sex with someone with a genital piercing. On top of all that it makes the p***s more aesthetically attractive, in the same way as jewellery worn on the fingers.
"My kind of guy is tall and dark and has long hair, a good body, tattoos and some Body Hardware." Pamela Anderson ber-Babe.
"unless you've got a bolt through your genitals, you're not making it in the nineties!" Tommy (T-Bone) Lee. Motley Crue, Pamela's Husband.
PAIN? Many men considering getting this piercing are put off by the idea that it must be painful, however the pain is minimal. The piece of skin where the piercing is done is very thin, less than 1mm thick. The pain is just a very short sharp pain which lasts a second or two.
PLACEMENT The Prince Albert Piercing is done through the eye or "urethra" of the p***s and then comes out at the intersection of the small bridge of skin "fraenulum" and the edge of the head of the p***s "corona", there is an almost triangular intersection and this is where the piercing goes. If the man is uncircumcised it must go slightly to one side of the fraenulum, if he is circumcised it can go directly through the centre.
JEWELLERY Initially the piercing is done with a ball closure ring which is 2mm thick with an internal diameter of approximately 13-18mm. After 2 months it's best to increase the ring to one of 2.4mm thickness, this is far more comfortable during sex. Other forms of jewelery i.e. circular barbells, banana barbells, and prince wands may be worn.
The initial size of the ring which is used for the piercing is determined by educated guesswork because it really impossible to determine the exact size until you have an erection. If the ring pinches the skin or is uncomfortable when you get an erection it may be too small, if this is the case the ring must be changed immediately for one which is larger, this is done for no cost it's part of the service you pay for when you get the piercing. If a ring that's too small is left in you may tear the piercing slightly which can result in infection, or the wound may continue to tear and become very uncomfortable.

Fraenulum/Forskin Piercing
FRAENULUM PIERCING HISTORY The piercing of the Fraenulum is probably the second-most popular male genital piercing, it is usually incorrectly referred to as a "Frenum" piercing but this an abbreviated version of the true word Fraenulum . The Fraenulum is the small ridge of flesh joining the foreskin to the Glans of the p***s, in most cases circumcision removes or destroys it, however in rare cases it still exists after circumcision. I can only find one account of it occurring amongst tribal people.
"Amongst the Timorese of Indonesia, the Frenulum beneath the glans p***s is pierced with brass rings, the function of the ring is to enhance stimulation during sex."
Die kunstlichen Verunstaltungen des Korpers bei den Batta. Zeitschrift fur Ethnologie 16:217-225 1884.
FORESKIN PIERCING (INFIBULATION) HISTORY The practice of piercing of the foreskin for the insertion of jewellery is as old as circumcision, and is of immemorial antiquity, going back far beyond the earliest recorded history. During the games of Ancient Greece, the athletes performed nude, and to prevent their penises moving about they bound the foreskin with a ribbon and tied it to the base of the p***s. This ribbon. or leather thong was called the "Kynodesme" from the Greek "Kuon" foreskin, and "Desmos" fastening band. This temporary practice probably led to the permanent piercing of the foreskin, either to prevent slaves and athletes from having sex, or to prevent them from having erections. The Roman's used a practice called Infibulation, it involved two piercings going through the foreskin (or Labia in women) and a lock (Fibula) being placed therein.
The Roman historian Mensius declares that Infibulation may be traced back to the time of the siege of Troy (12th Century BC) for he points out that according to "The Odyssey" (Bk. VIII, Line 477) Agamemnon departed for the Trojan War, and left his wife Clytemnestra, in the care of the singer Demodecus, seeing that he had been infibulated.
The prevalence of the practice is attested to by the number of references to it, to be found in ancient writings. The roman writers Juvenal, Martial, Strabo, Fallopio, and Hieronymus Mercurialis all make mention of the practice. The piercing process is described in detail by the famous 1st Century Roman physician Celsus, in his treatise on medicine "De Medecina"
"First of all the prepuce should be drawn forward and marks made on each side of it in such a manner , that when the prepuce is released, the marks do not return past the end of the glans. This is to be tested and tried , until marks are had that will be free of the glans, these will then be the places for the location of the Fibula. After the the marking is ascertained to be correct, holes are to be pierced through the prepuce with a needle and thread, and the two loose ends of the thread are to be tied together, and the thread is to be run back and forth through the holes daily until they are healed, thus leaving two openings on either side of the prepuce which will not close. When this has taken place, the thread is to be removed, and the fibula, which should be light in weight, may be inserted through the orifices"
PLACEMENT fraenulum piercing is done through the small ridge of skin connecting the foreskin with the Glans of the p***s (see picture), if a man has been circumcised this ridge usually disappears. However, if there is no Fraenulum the piercing can sometimes still be done through the foreskin in the same position.
Foreskin piercings are usually done in pairs with one ring on either side of the p***s, so that if both piercings are in a line it's done horizontally to the ground.
JEWELLERY The Fraenulum piercing is done with either a small ball closure ring or a barbell, once the piercing is healed a Fraenulum loop may be worn, this a ring that sits behind the Corona (lip) of the Glans (Head) of the p***s. If it's measured correctly it acts like a c**k-ring keeping the Glans hard during sex, the loops can also be made with balls attached to provide extra stimulation during sex. A barbell can be worn in the day and the loop put on before having sex.
Foreskin piercing are done using ball closure rings, either one or a pair and after the piercing is healed one ring can be worn through both holes to act like a lock.

Palang & Apadravya Piercings
HISTORY The piercing of the Glans of the p***s for the insertion of jewellery is a very ancient practice, the Apadravya piercing is mentioned in the Kama Sutra (700AD) and the Palang piercing has been practised in SE Asia for several hundred years. Several genital piercings originate in Asia where piercing has been practised since antiquity, the following quote, from "The Kama Sutra" describes the process for the piercing of an Apadravya, or a vertical barbell through the glans of the p***s.
"The people of the southern countries think that true sexual pleasure cannot be obtained without perforating the Lingam, and they therefore cause it to be pierced like the lobes of the ears of an infant pierced for earrings."
The Palang (often incorrectly called Ampallang) is a piercing that occurred among the Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, Dayak, and Iban tribes of Sarawak on the Island of Borneo. It involves piercing the Glans of the p***s horizontally, and the insertion of a barbell. The term "Palang" translates as "Crossbar" in Iban and can be related to the timber roof supports of the longhouses of the tribes of the area, and symbolises the protective power of the male over the family.
"the operation is performed only on adults. The skin is forced back, the p***s is placed between two small planks of bamboo and for ten days and it is covered with rags dipped in cold water. Then the glans is perforated with a sharp bamboo needle; a feather dipped in oil, is placed in the wound until it heals. Wet compresses are used all the while. When the Dayaks travel and work they carry a feather in this canal. As soon as they grow desirous, they pull the feather out and replace it with the ampallang. The ampallang is a little rod of copper, silver or gold, four centimetres long and two millimetres thick. At one end of this rod is a round ball or pear-formed object made of metal; at the other end a second ball is placed as soon as the ampallang is affixed. The whole apparatus is, when ready, five centimetres long and five millimetres thick.... Von Graffin has seen one Dayak who had two ampallangs, one behind the other! The perforation was always horizontal and above the urethra.... The women of the Dayaks say the embrace without this ornament is like rice, but with it, it tastes like rice with salt. Mantegazza, Sexual Relations of Mankind
"The function of this device is, superficially, is to add to the sexual pleasure of the women by stimulating and extending the inner walls of the v****a. It is, in this, in my experience decidedly successful." Tom Harrisson, The Sarawak Museum Journal Vol VII, December 1956.
PLACEMENT The Palang piercing is a horizontal piercing done through or above the urethra, the Apadravya piercing is done vertically through the Glans at an angle. See pictures on front cover.
JEWELLERY These piercings are done using Surgical Steel Barbells, the internal diameter of the barbell is usually determined before the piercing by measuring the place to pierced will the p***s is flaccid and then allowing 2-3 mm room for expansion of the p***s during erection.

Guiche & Hafada Piercings
GUICHE (geesh) PIERCING HISTORY The word "Guiche" is supposed to mean an opening in French, the actual translation is "window". This piercing is supposed to be a Samoan puberty ritual, but Derek Freeman Professor Emeritus of the Anthropology Department of The Australian National University, one of the world"s foremost authorities on Samoa informed me that he had no experience of this practice in Samoa. The puberty ritual practised in Samoa is subincision, this is where the underneath of the foreskin is cut down to the fraenulum. Professor Freeman stated that this practice has never existed in Samoa, and if it had in the past he would have been aware of it.
Doug Malloy Travelled to Tahiti just before WW2, where he met an Australian sailor who had jumped ship named Reggie Jones. Reggie told Doug about the piercing, and performed the piercing for him.
Doug Malloy said that this piercing originated in Tahiti, the piercing was done at age 12-14 and a leather thong inserted into the piercing, a small weight either a rock or a shell was hung from the thong once the piercing was healed. The procedure was performed by a MahuŒ, in Tahiti a Mahu is a transvestite male who has taken on the role of a women, they are highly respected members of society, and they were said to possess magical powers by adherants of the ancient Tahitian religion. However, again I can find no evidence of this practice in any literature about Tahiti.
The ancient Polynesian mariners used to judge their direction by the movement of the waves, the best way to do this was to squat down and feel this movement through the swinging of the testicles. The Raphe Perineum where the Guiche piercing is done is the site of a large amount of nerves, and having a weight hanging from the piercing could possibly have helped the ancient mariners derive their direction, but this is only speculation on my part.
HAFADA (SCROTUM) PIERCING The Hafada piercing is a scrotum piercing on the side of the scrotum, where there is a crease. It is supposed to have originated in Arabia and spread through Northern Africa and the Middle East. The piercing is carried out as a puberty ritual, it is generally done on the left hand side. The piercing was supposedly bought back to Europe by French Foriegn Legionares when they were stationed in what is now Lebanon and Syria.
Scrotum piercings aren't practised by any primitive tribes, at least I can't find any evidence of such practices, it's really a modern western invention. Some people have an incredible number of piercings through their scrotum, Sailor Sid one of the early piercers had 120 scrotum piercings at the time of his death, and he planned to have more.
PLACEMENT The Guiche piercing is done through the ridge of skin that runs between the base of the scrotum and the a**s. This site contains a very large group of nerves and is very sensitive, in men pressure here stimulates the prostate gland, but even in women the piercing is very pleasurable when it's pulled on.
Hafada piercings are done on the upper portion of the scrotum where there is a crease of flesh, scrotum piercings can be done anywhere on the scrotum but are usually done along the crease of the scrotum.
JEWELLERY Both piercings are usually done using ball closure rings, however they can be performed using barbells. Some piercers recommend that Guiche piercings be performed using a banana barbell as this makes healing easier. After they are healed a variety of jewellery can be inserted, most people find that it's very pleasurable to hang weights from these piercings especially the Guiche piercing.
