This Gonna Be A pro/con Review of the Zoom (Brand) 3095 (Model) USB Modem (Dial-up)
BTW, I'm Posting This Here because I Don't Think Tolugg Has (or I missed any real place for hardware Stuff)
Pro
-----------------
Just as fast (If Not Faster Than my actual Modem)
Small / Compact
Doesn't Need an "Power Cube" (USB has enough power)
Linux Drivers (Kinda See Cons)
-----------------
Cons
-----------------
Price $50 (At Bestbuy )
(Included With Device) Zoom linux Drivers Useless (64-bit and possibly all newer Linux kernels) (See Other Thoughts)
-----------------
Other Thoughts
-----------------
Right Now I'm Using it in Puppy Linux 4.2.1 and it found the Modem automatically through its Internet connection wizard
UPDATE!!!! August 9, 09
----------------------------

I got it working in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) I installed wvdial BUT the Gnome PPP and KPPP Just Bombed xp just wouldn't work so I had to get down and dirty with wvdial (Not That hard BTW) changed the username, password, and phone number in /etc/wvdial.conf (Super User (su) /sudo rights required to edit file) and ran
wvconf
which auto detected the usb modem however it had the wrong broad speed which i changed to what it likes to run at 57600
my wvdial.conf (minus my personal stuff of course fill in the <> fields with out <>
Oh Yeah also to run wvdial you need to be su or sudo it because pppd requires root access
[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = USB Modem
ISDN = 0
Phone =
New PPPD = yes
Modem = /dev/ttyACM2
Username =
Password =
Baud = 57600

Oh Yeah and one last thing because its usb you May (haven't tried yet) if you change the usb port the modem value will probably change just keep that in mind I think mine changed started at /dev/ttyACM0 before I screwed with it while trying to get the GUI dialers working.

All The Best,
JMAD

A while back I stumbled on a USB dial-up modem by US Robotics that had a native Linux driver that worked once you plugged the modem in. IIRC it was $40 on NewEgg, but I'm going to look it up to be sure.

Maybe a Hardware subforum wouldn't be to bad of an idea, but the question comes to mind do we really need another subforum?

EDIT: It is also $50 but here it is http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16825104006

True unless of course there were a large amount of hardware posts other than the problems in the Tech Support Sub Form.
Besides with "anything else" as a part of the name I think you're covered biggrin
