Kingdom Ambierence's History:
[Y = The year system used by Ambierence Kingdom. Smply, Y530 would be Year 530.]

Ch 1. The Founding of a Kingdom

Kingdom Ambierence was but a small logging operation nearly 300 years ago. It used to be apart of a larger kingdom known as Fael'durn supplying the people with ore, lumber and other goods. At first none of the people on this new frontier questioned Fael'durn, but as time began to tick people realized the land they had raped and defiled had more than enough resources to found a new kingdom. About 60 years after the founding of the operation rebellion broke out. The peasant's, commoners, and workers all refused to feed resources to Fael'durn until their demands were met. In just a few weeks the king of Fael'durn had organized an army of more than a thousand soldiers who disciplined the rebels.

Weeks passed as the two factions waged war, but the Fael'durn military was too powerful. The rebellion was stamped out just 3 months after it's birth and work had continued. Nearly 5 years later some of the old leaders of the rebellion united and prepared a new plan. They began teaching the use of magic to other rebels. They lacked the weapons of the enemy but could master magic without all that. They had spent many days preparing and training everyone willing to learn, but it did pay off.

The second rebellion was a huge success as Eldinor, an elven wizard, led many of the rebels to victory. He had fought at some of the most one sided battles and still managed to achieve victory. Defeat after defeat had soured relations between the king and these "workers" of his. He had ordered everyone and anyone to kill these rebels on sight... and they had obliged. Soon the rebels were facing death left and right, it seemed they wouldn't be able to surrender this time. Eldinor was tenacious nonetheless, he had led the remaining rebels deep into the woods that winter... the Fael'durn military had attempted to follow them facing nothing more than hardships.

Months into the search they decided to give up declaring the rebels had either died or fled. As the army pulled out from the woods they met nothing more than the unexpected. Eldinor and his men charged forth using magics against the unaware unprepared enemy... the battle ended quickly with no survivors from the Fael'durn military. Eldinor then led his men out of the woods just as spring had arrived. He marched towards the capital of the kingdom and swore revenge. Entire villages were pillaged or burned to the ground as his group moved slowly across the land.

The rebellion had earned the title of the flaming plague and death's will and became a threat known across the world. As the group approached the Fael'durn City they either would leave here today as victors, or not leave at all. They had used manipulation spells to get the guards to open the gate and the siege was on. Days were spent just fighting in the streets working their way to the castle. After they had reached it 6 days after the initial assault they realized it was too heavily fortified to go head on against. They slowly bid their time preparing one of the most complex and ingenious plans ever to grace war.

After weeks of allowing the castles resources dwindle they prepared for the final assault. Hundreds of battlemages charged the front gates, followed by ranges who attempted to give cover fire to their allies. They fought valiantly killing many soldiers... and working as the distraction for the main plan. Meanwhile from the sewers a small group of mages led by Eldinor and a gnomish rogue named Sylyns had gotten directly under the castle. They cast a spell that caused a massive explosion sending the ceiling straight to the floor... and making an entrance into the castle. The group quickly ran inside and began disarming soldiers. They rushed through the halls and opened the gate for the main force to get in, which sealed Fael'durns fate. The king of Fael'durn bowed down and acknowledged the new kingdom they wished to form... Ambierence they called it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 2. Establishing of Ambierence

After the war had ended many of the wizards, sorcerers, mages and other casters settled down into their new land. Many conjured huts out of nothing, others went back to destroying forests to build settlements. Many of them were unaware of the hardships ahead. After years of settling and taking from the land they head reached a little snag. They had yet to found a capital. Many had thought of names and locations but Eldinor had ignored their requests and built the Kingdom on the coast, with the castle on a small island not far away from the shore.

They had agreed on naming it "Ambierence City" to spite the kingdom of Fael'durn. The materials required to build the massive city were scarce after the many other villages were developed. Eldinor had thought of many ideas in which to get the materials, most requiring yet another war. Instead, he decided to do what was best in the people's opinion, borrow resources from a "potential" ally. Eldinor had known of one kingdom with all of the resources required and more... no not Fael'durn... but the under-kingdom of Scaleroux. It was populated by Goblins, Bugbears, Kobolds, Hobgoblins, Drows and various other under-common creatures.

Eldinor left his people that day, with 4 emissaries and head towards the entrance to Scaleroux. Weeks passed as they battled against nature to survive, none of them had thought the journey would be so difficult. Eldinor manged to keep them motivated however, and due to that they had reached the Fire-Grotto Cavern. The entrance was shaped like the maw of a dragon. Eldinor and his allies began to enter as they heard a rumbling sound, he quickly yelled for everyone to get out of the cave! Just then a massive flame erupted from the cave's mouth burning everything in its path and everything in a 240ft cone outside the cave. One of the emissaries fell to this trap and they had sworn revenge.

They carefully reentered the cave slowly making their way downwards to the depths of the kingdom. It seemed like hours of traveling the ancient tunnels. Continuously spiraling downwards, it seemed like an eternity of darkness and evil. But alas they reached the ancient city. They gazed upon it from the entrance hundreds of feet above the base of the city. Almost Immediately a horde of Kobolds were at the entrance, spears pointed at Eldinor and his allies.

With the the sway of his hand and some soft, calm words, Eldinor convinced the kobolds he was here for no other means than resources. They led him deep into the cities, occasionally Eldinor's allies whispered demoralizing statements, but he continued to encourage them. After a long walk they we're at a temple deep under the earth... made of pure obsidian. They entered it slowly as the Kobolds disbanded. Upon entering they took in the view.

Blood, Trash, corpses, and skeletons littered the room. Statues on both sides of the room stared at the center of the room, angrily. As they walked in every step echoed... but the silence was soon broken by a booming voice. The King of Scaleroux resided at the end of the room, standing in front of the throne. He queried why those from "above" would dare bring light into his lair. Eldinor quickly explained the situation to the king who seem to care little of the issues of these... people.

The King quickly declined the request and sent the land-dwellers on their way. As Eldinor and his men reached the surface it was night already. They looked at each other disappointed with the situation. The people of Ambierence would have to make due with the resources available... for now. After weeks of travel they were once again in the heart of their beloved kingdom. Eldinor and his companions were greeted with joy and love, but the crowd quickly became sour and angry, especially the family of the fallen emissary.

The kingdom became a state of rebellion within days. The problem seemed to be out of hand... just when matters became worse. Word had reached Eldinor that the kingdom of Scaleroux had prepared for war and is marching upon Ambierence... their force would be there in merely 6 days.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 3. Reunition

Eldinor and his people had little time to prepare for the massive force on its way, and with the empire in its current state they didn't stand a chance. They needed to rally their forces and bring together everyone to stand and fight the force instead of bickering and rebelling. No one had a plan at this point. Eldinor told his allies to do what they could as he had something planed for himself. He didn't tell his allies of the details but that he may never return.

He left the kingdom that day, leaving what was left of his allies in despair. With the remaining leaders and forces segregated and panicking it looked bad. Captain Allix Odan had hypothesized an idea that could work, of course they all willing accepted it with no other ideas out there. The remaining military split into 2 forces going town to town returning order, then ordering the militia to spread the message. The plan was all they had, and if it failed, Ambierence would fall.

They split the force into two divisions. The first being the warriors and clerics together. The second was a mix of mages and rangers. In hours they had left the camp sitting on the foundation of Ambierence City hoping to restore what was left of this grand empire. The task at hand was difficult no doubt, but the forces pushed on.

At first the forces were successful uniting the broken kingdom, but as time dragged on they encountered villages that attacked them on sight. These villages were marked as rebellion camps and ignored completely, hoping that Scaleroux would deal with the villages themselves. After 4 days of spreading propaganda and promising the reuniting of the kingdom most of the empire was restored to its former glory. Only 8 Rebellion Camps remained, and Scaleroux would be in Ambierence in just 2 days, if the scout was correct. Still no signs of Eldinor came up as the hours came to pass.

Many worried that he had fallen in his quest to save the kingdom from itself and the enemy. Nonetheless the guard prepared its defensive, focusing its strong points around resource nodes such as mines, lumber mills, farms and the such, and allowing weak spots near the Rebellion Camps. After planning the defenses were built up quickly. Wooden palisades, shoddy traps, shanty guard towers... it looked like a mess. To make matters worse the emissaries of Scaleroux arrived 1 day earlier than expected.

They offered surrender under the condition that 60% of Ambierences populace be sacrificed in an offering to their god. The emissaries were killed on the spot for their offensive offer. Just hours later the main force was at the footsteps of the mighty kingdom. This time they were not alone. Kobolds and various other underdwellers came mounted on the backs of Red Dragons.

They swooped in breathing fire at the wooden defenses as the Kobolds fired their crossbows at fleeing targets. The defenses were crumbling apart in minutes, it looked hopeless but they continued to fight on. Sorcerers used frost spells to weaken the Red Dragons flying above as Warriors kept the ground forces from attacking these magicians. A secondary force of Militia arrived from the nearby farm and assisted attacking the Orcish force to divert them from the casters. At best the defense would buy them time for Eldinor's 'grand scheme' to come into play.

Captain Allix Odan Led his warriors into the oncoming force slashing wildly at the Drow and Orcs alike. He slew many that day, over hundreds some say. The Scalerouxin Force fell quickly, and the survivors let out a great cheer. The ground began rumbling as they turned they saw yet another force coming over the horizon, possibly double the size of the last one! Quickly they prepared their ranks against the horribly force charging.

The Dragons once again swooped in from above and released there flaming breath upon the soldiers. With the Ambierence force thinned out this time defeat was imminent. The Kobold ground force began to charge as the distract sorcerers dealt with the Dragons. The militia immediately charges the oncoming force, the archers and mages work on the Dragon threat.

Quickly they turn their attention to the archers and casters and release the fire in their gullet! The militia was overwhelmed by the attacking force. Allix Odan and his forces were in the center of the massive sea of enemies, the end was near. They fought on valiantly ignoring their fate as they all were blinded by a violet flash of light...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ch 4. Scaleroux's Offensive

...After the light dissipated the enemies forces stood absolutely still, the flying drakes floated gently without the movement of wings. Allix looked around watching the disabled army, and then fell to his knees and thanked the divine spirits watching over Ambierence. Just then he felt a hand come down on his shoulder, he turned his head to look and saw Eldinor standing behind him. The two had a quick reunion as Eldinor explained what had happened, the frozen enemies would soon regain their vigor and rejoin battle as if never frozen.

At once the soldiers of Ambierence took advantage of their paralyzed foes, hacking at kobolds unable to defend themselves, casting highly dangerous spells at the dragons, and decapitating the orc forces. Soon the remaining forces awakened and prepared to wipe out the Ambierence Army. The Orcs pushed together to form a wall as kobolds behind them thrust their spears through weak holes in the defense. The wall was making a breach in Allix's forces and something needed to be done. The archers released arrow after arrow as the shield blocked most of them, the sorcerers joined aided with explosive spells destroying small fractions of the wall.

Soon the orcs had pushed the enemy to their flaming palisade... and just in time as the catapults were coming just over the hill. Quickly the humans stood their ground and fought the orcish wall, the rangers and sorcerers continued their barrage of projectiles hoping to weaken them. Allix shouted for his men to recruit as the catapults released their payload. Hundreds of pounds of explosives came falling from the sky killing Scaleroux and Ambierence soldiers alike. The retreat was carried out quickly as the soldiers dispersed into separate groups.

Allix and Eldinor stayed together leading a small group of warriors and sorcerers, it seemed that the archers got lost amongst the chaos. They needed a new plan to push back the enemy forces that threatened the empire, Eldinor promised all would be well if the next, and final battle is fought at Starkeepers Hill. Reluctantly, all the soldiers agreed and they set off to rally at the hill. Word was sent out to most of the separated battalions telling them of the rendezvous. As the good news went out however, bad news came in. The Scaleroux forces leveled four nearby villages, none of which were homes of Rebels.

Eldinor reassured everyone all is well, as long as they fight on the hill. Night came, and the Scaleroux army followed. Surrounded, the soldiers of Ambierence let out a war cry letting the enemies know they wouldn't go down without a fight. The battle began quickly as soldiers ran in to meet the oncoming force, archers helped take out the enemies further back in the lines, and mages played their parts here and there.

Eldinor stood atop the hill, reading from a strange book. Allix watched over him trying to make sense out of the strange, ancient text. Eldinor seemed to understand it completely as his finger skimmed the pages, word from word, sentence to sentence. He began muttering words as he read, Allix looked at him keenly, then down to the battle below.

The enemies force was overwhelming, although no dragons accompanied them the enemy still proved their power. The warriors battalion was almost depleted, the Orcs beat them down too quickly and savagely. The warriors tried to hold their ground however, the hope of Ambierence rested with them. Suddenly the earth began to shake... followed by a great sundering.

The ground around the hill split open as Orcs, kobolds, and humans alike fell to their death. The remnants of the Ambierence force ran for the hill as the gap grew. Then the strangest thing happened that no one could've expected. The wind stopped blowing, and a strange white light burst from the ruptured earth. The intensity grew quickly... brighter... brighter... until no one could see.

When the light was gone, so was the Sundered ground and the Scaleroux army. The men cheered proudly as they realized they had won. But one man stood their, with no smile on his face. Allix stared at the spot Eldinor had stood just seconds ago... now gone, straight from the face of the earth. No one knows what really happened that day. Perhaps Eldinor sacrificed himself, maybe he fled, maybe he was killed by his own magics...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 5. The New Frontier

With the death of Eldinor the kingdom was in dispair. Allix was no politcian and did not feel right taking Eldinor's spot. He had no choice and was crowned the new king of Ambierence. No joy or plans came to him as he sat alone in his throne. He knew his lead would destroy the kingdom from inside, someone had to takeover for him, but who?

Perhaps it was time to find out. With Scaleroux crippled economically and militarily their home was not safe to anyone. Allix had declared all the land free and up for grabs. Immediately people from all over Ambierence began to push out onto these new lands in hope of striking it rich, or settling down somewhere peaceful. With little to no defenders the land was easy taking for unarmed villagers.

Occasionally a mercenaries group would try taking a vast amount of land and selling it back to the kingdom for profit. This mercenary land-grab quickly became a trend. The most reknown group for that was the Himmieron's Glory, or HG. Led by Himmieron Suel, HG became a large profiteer of the new land. They not only took unclaimed but fought other mercenary groups and villagers for their land.

Ambierence refused to step in after just finishing war, and with HG merely founding land for them their was no problem for the leaders of Ambierence. Himmieron wasn't happy with the progress of his clan however. He knew the one big score that would provide profiting for years is the Scaleroux capital of Fire-Grotto Cavern. They had taken the entire cave and all its resources within the month and profited as they thought, but their was one member displeased with their actions, Leon Fallus.

Leon was a high ranking fighter of the group and knew much of their operations, but rarely was he proud. Leon knew that for his son to do correct in life he would have to bring down the group. Later that year he confessed all the information to Allix, from plans to overthrow him to invading Fael'durn. Allix immediately had Himmieron sentenced to death, along with his high ranking lackeys. Leon was glad he set a message of integrity to his family and knew the price would be great.

Allix had passed the crown to him in exchange for his deeds and was granted his rank of liutenant-captain. It seemed all was well, and it continued for years. Of course the frontieer still had many problems such as occasional kobold raids or unnesting a drake, but nontheless worth it. However the rise of one thing led to the fall of another thing. With Himmieron dead, his mercenary group fell apart. Many of which had plans of slaying leon for his actions and cause of Himmierons death.

After 135 years they were succesful. They had rename themselves the Theives of the Black Morass and focused only on evil deeds to destroy Ambierence. Ambierence City and castle had finished construction just 40 years before the founding of this new organization. Allix of the guard had died just 16 years before that of old age. After recieving inside information on the castle they plotted to assasinate Leon Fallus.

They had snuck into the castle, into the bedchamber, and with one thrust, the deed was over. Fallus' son now, was at the fragile age of 152 years he had became the next king of Ambierence. He had always wished for this spot in the throne but never expected to get it this way. His son, Autun Fallus, continued to manage the kingdom as his father wanted. Freely, efficently, and proudly...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 6. The Black Morass

With the success of Leon's death fear swept the land. If the Thieves of the Black Morass could murder the king, who was safe? Autun quickly took up the task of training the guard to detect and know the members, most of which were members of HG or descendents of the old members. Any thieves of the group were immediately executed for treason and conspiracy. The deeds of the group remained highly illogical after the assassination as the group began petty crimes such as robbery or assault.

Even with little deeds they were succesful however, they worked in small groups all trained in the way of magical arts. The most infamous spell they all knew from the lowliest recruits to the greatest of assassins was the shadowstep. They would immediately move from one shadow to another and evade or kill guards who would dare impede their duties. Few who were capture chose death rather than spill information. The leader and meaning behind their actions remained secret until today, but still, they remain a great threat to everyone and everything in the kingdom.

It was thanks to them that Malladraxus was able to launch a necromancer attack during Y804. During the attack hundreds were killed, many converted into undead. After 3 days Malladraxus' entire army had been destroyed besides a select few of his elite and himself. They tried to make one final stand but were crushed by the guard. Malladraxus was slain that day.

With guards being taught some minor magic the thieves have slowed down their rate of crimes. Rumor has it they simply destroyed themselves in a civil war, other believe they are plotting for a huge return, and when they do the heavens will fall and Ambierence will be wiped out in a tide of blood...
