Welcome to the Shredder's corner. This is place specifically for those of you who have an interest in playing cleanly at high speeds and wish to share techniques and information or even trivia about their favorite shred guitar players. This isn't just a forum for the electric guitar either; I want it to cover shredding on any instrument, but I'm sure we will mainly concentrate on guitar and bass (acoustic or electric).

Feel free to check out my playlists too as I have some great shred videos on there. I'm always up for hanging out, watching videos and answering questions. All shredders and wannabe shredders welcome!!

That's pretty general, but I would suggest learning some scale sequences (pentatonic or otherwise), maybe some arpeggio shapes to practice sweeping on. You can look them up or even try making up your own (try playing the individual notes of a chord you know and apply other notes from that scale to flesh out the shape). Then learn how they fit into the key you're playing in and practice applying them in actual musical situations. Practice to a metronome or jam track and have fun! The number one rule is to enjoy playing, so that's really what's important. The more you play, the more you will improve!

Use harmonics at the 5th and 7th frets to tune (lower string 5th fret, next string 7th fret). You can actually hear/feel the soundwave cycles speed up and slow down as you tune. When the waveforms slow and finally blend together where you can't distinguish individual cycles and the sound is harmonious, you're in tune.

Or you can use the 5th fret method that people who can't do harmonics use, which works too. Always tune up to the note you're going for, things tend to fall a little flat when tuning down to them. Use quick, jerky motions to tune rather than trying to slowly turn the tuner. Just go for it and see if the results are positive.

Try tuning by ear without a tuner, this will help you develop relative pitch memory. Of course use a tuner to check yourself afterwards. How did you do?

Hope that helps a bit and wasn't too convoluted for you. ninja
