.::.Xavren Hatching Grounds.::. The sands of Xavren Weyr lie still. As its first Queen has yet to rise, the sand are, surprisingly, full with a clutch from that of Gold Yazith as a last give to Xavren before she passed on along with her rider, Xavrens former Weyrwoman, Teva. To many, it was an omen, a sign of forturn to the Weyr and hopeful Candidates who have come to Xavren to Impress and fufill their dreams to assert themselves into the ranks of the Dragonrider. Benches and seats have been carved into the rocky cavern where spectators and the families of those who are attempting fate can look onwards as new bonds of rider and dragon are forged. While the watchful eyes of Gold Sanrith rest upon those who enter, she diligently keeps tabs on those who meander within the grounds as well as Yazith's prized clutch.
Engraved at the entrance reads:
If you stand at the edge of the hot sands, you are choosing a new destiny. Trials and hardships are inevitable; You are to endure the unthinkable and become emotionally entwined with a dragon for life. By standing at the edge of these sands you are willing to sacrifice your life for the Weyr and all of Pern as a guardian and warrior. Proceed on, strong of heart, as there will be no turning back for destiny is calling.

Brick could risk it, couldn't he? It was easy, just walk in and take a look. Gold Sanrith won't mind, would she? 'Not if I stay far enough away.' He thought. He took a look around as he headed for the hot sands. 'Just stay at the edge.' He thought.

Ailene carefully creeped into the Hatching Grounds. She had seen Sanrith heading for the feeding grounds on her way through the Weyrbowl, which ment that she could probably get a look in without the steady eyes of the gold dragon watching her.
Slowly entering the Hatching Grounds she realized that another was already there looking at the eggs. Quietly she crept foreward, eyeing the eggs and the boy. As she neared the eggs she almost forgot about the boy completely, watching the slight simmer of the eggs beofre her in the dawn light. Tentivily she reached out a hand and laid it gently along the side of the one she now stood by. It was warm to the touch. Ohhhh... Now I have to be a dragonrider! she thought as the true marvel of it all hit her.

Sara popped her head in and looked around. "Ohhh...." she whispered as she crept inside. Gold Sanrith wasn't here now, so Sara didn't need to worry about getting caught-- or torn to shreds, her uneasy mind-self reminded her. She suppressed a giddy squeal at the sight of the eggs before her. There's one in here just for me! she thought with ecstasy.

Brick watched as one of the girls laid a hand on the eggs. He looked around, before walking up to her. "I don't think you should do that. Sanrith might come back anytime." He muttered while switching his eyes from the girl to the eggs and back to the girl.

Relucantly tearing her eyes from the eggs, Ailene looked at the boy, now next to her. "Don't worry. Sanrith is just heading towards the feeding grounds. She'll be there for awhile longer. What are you doing here anyways, if not to get a closer look at the eggs?"

"Ailene."
Out of the corner of her eye, Ailene spotted abough girl lurking off to the side. "Looks like we weren't the only ones to have this great idea." She said smiling. "But it might be my only chance to get this close to the eggs again. You see, I'm not technically a candiate, though they might let me stand if they're short on numbers. I do hope so."
Ailene sighed deeply, and gave the eggs she had been touching one last stroke before turning towards the door. "You are right though Brick. Sanrith won't be gone forever. And Theia will have my hide if I don't get to my chores soon. So what's your story?"

Sara saw the other two talking. Oh, they must be other candidates! she thought. Watching very step carefully, so as to not disturb the eggs, the girl crept her way over to where the boy nd girl were. In her haste, she tripped in a rift in the sand, and nearly fell when she caught herself, right before the pair. She let out a nervous, almost embarrassed chuckle and regained her composure. "H-hi..." she half-mumbled, tucking her hands behind her back.

Ailene chuckled some as the girl tripped. She knew that she shouldn't, but she just couldn't help it.
"Hi." she said as she reached to help the girl get steady. "Seems like a good day for egg spying, uh?"

"Well, what with Sanrith not being here and all..." she mumbled nervously. "Thanks," she added in a half-whisper.

"No problem." Looking around her a second time, Ailene sighed. "We'd better get out of here. Sanrith really won't eat froever, even though it'll seem like it. And I think it's time for our breakfast anyway."

Ailene glanced one more time at the eggs, and then headed for the Lower Caverns and something to eat.
