Other Materials
- Wand - Quill - Parchment - Ink (if needed) (no outrageous colors)
------------------------------------------------------
First year students will focus on the basics of Transfiguration and complete simple transfigurations like match to needle and beetle to button.
Second year students will learn how to use switching spells, study Animagi, and complete slightly more advanced transfigurations like mouse to teacup, hedgehog to pincushion, and teapot to tortoise.
Third year students will delve deeper into switching spells, study Metamorphmagi, and transfigure desks to pigs.
Fourth year students will be introduced to vanishing spells and Cross-Species Transfiguration (ie. guinea fowl to guinea pigs.)
In the students' fifth year, the primary focus will be to prepare each and every student for their Transfiguration Ordinary Wizarding Level Examination (O.W.L.) so that they will get an "Exceeds Expectations" (E) or higher. Some topics to be covered are vanishing spells (on invertebrates only) and a very basic introduction to conjuring spells.
Should they pass their O.W.L. with an E or an "Outstanding" (O), students will have the option of continuing on with Transfiguration in Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test (N.E.W.T.) level classes in their sixth and seventh years.
Sixth year students will cover conjuring spells, advanced vanishing spells (on invertebrates only), introduction to vanishing spells (on vertebrates), and the very basics of Self-Transfiguration.
Seventh year students will study conjuring spells, advanced vanishing spells on both invertebrates and vertebrates, advanced Self-Transfiguration, and possibly touch upon training to become an animagus with the assistance of a wand.

Ava Sorrel rushed around the Transfiguration classroom tidying things up before she had to hurry off to the Great Hall for the Start of Term Banquet. She dragged her hand along the top of a student's desk, only to regret it immediately when she felt her palm being coated in quite a thick layer of dust. Her expression quickly turned to one of disgust. Pulling out her wand and pointing it at her hand, she muttered, "Scourgify," and it was clean. After repeating the spell for every desk in the room, she was finally satisfied and put her wand away.
Oh, but the windows. They were filthy.
Ava sighed and got out her wand again. After shooting the cleaning spell at the windows, she sat at her desk, facing the sea of empty desks in front of her. In less than 24 hours, she would be looking at a class filled with eager faces ready to learn. Well, no, a class filled with bored faces that begged to be dismissed early. That sounded about right. The first years would be excited for at least a week or two, so she had that to look forward to. She got up and started to write on the board at the front of the room.
Hi, I'm Professor Sorrel. It's a pleasure to have you in my class.
Was that too informal? Yes, yes of course it was. She reread the last sentence. That, and it would be much too simple for a student to make inappropriate. Imagine! What if the Headmistress walked in and the board read 'Hi, I'm Professor Sorrel. It's a pleasure to have you in my....' How humiliating. She erased is and just started writing the rules.
Rules
1. Never be tardy. If you are, you better have a bloody good excuse as to why. 2. There will be no mindless wand waving in this class. 3. Do not talk while others are speaking. 4. If you are asked to leave, do so without protest. 5. Complete all assignments on time and as accurately as possible. 6. Come prepared. I will not be your endless supply of quills, ink, parchment, and books.
She smiled after she finished the last word.
