This is a private role playing with myself between Xerxes and Gilbert. I wish to flesh out their mutual "friendship" more. I'm not sure how long this will be~
The first post is where I'll keep little notes to myself.

The woodland played a soft melody, a hymn of it's own, as the moonlight above sparkled down onto the scenery. Crickets chirped, leaves rustled in the wind as trees swayed. Owls hooted in the distant, adding an eerie tone to the music of the night. Many animals were laid to rest until the morning's warmth awoke them from their slumbers while few stay restless into the night hours.
All would seem normal except for the fact Dire Wolves roamed the land. This fact was quite abnormal as they've been extinct for hundreds of years, leaving their genetic print in a few of today's existing species. The Dire Wolves awoken from their eternal slumber had little idea that they were once gone to this world and acted as if nothing happened.
That just so happened to bug one individual amongst the crowd. Known for being obsessed with tragic events of the past, Xerxes Break, wanted answers. These answers desired were that of what had happened to the world and why there was so few of his kind compared to other species he saw and hunted. There were other species as well, Velociraptors, Microraptors, and Sabertooths, all of which seemed familiar yet so distant to the clever Dire.
"...Just what happened, ages ago? What history plagues this land we walk upon?" He muttered to himself in amusement. A Cheshire cat grin slipped onto his muzzle, his right eye scanning the woodland around him. "What do you say, Emily?"
The doll the was propped up on his back gazed around with her soulless eyes. "I say something horrible happened." She chuckled.
That grin never faded as Xerxes laughed. "Ah, how right you are, my Emily. Now... Let us search for answers to our mystery, ne?"
Emily gave an nod of agreement, resuming her lifeless state on the Dire's back. She was quite the odd doll, rude speaking, hardly moving, yet Xerxes' friend through thick and thin. He never went anywhere without her and if she was left behind - there was a good reason behind it. Though that reason would be shrouded in Xerxes' complex and bizarre train of thought.
The two carried on their walk down the dirt filled path. Various insects flying about, becoming much of an annoyance. Another hoot filled the air. Ah... the sounds of the night. They were music to his ears.

That night - that night from a horrific tragedy, played in his mind. Bits and pieces torn at the sleeping Dire, causing him to whimper in his sleep. Images of his late Master's pack and the coming of age ceremony, the day where everything changed.
Gilbert Nightray, was a small pup back then, loyal to the alpha wolf's son's every word. It was his job to make his Master happy, to help him and protect him. During that time, Gilbert was a scared pup, constantly whimpering from his Master's comical abuse. However, knowing it was out of love and friendship, the pup never faltered with his loyalty.
As night fell over the territory controlled by his Master's father, everything was a blur to him. He walked as if his own feet knew not where they were going, controlled like some puppet, carrying out a task his conscious nor subconscious wished. That night, his claws plunged into his Master's chest to draw blood, releasing the curse that was plagued onto the pack. He released what he had done when it was too late. Mysterious wolves appeared in the area, plotting to cast the son away into eternal darkness.
Gilbert noticed who one of the wolves were when his Master went to go attack them... He rushed in front of the mysterious wolf to protect him, only to suffer the fatal strike to his chest, leaving a large scar that is visible today, and rendering him unconscious at that moment from the pain.
The rest was a blur as one could imagine. When he awoke, his Master was gone. Tears filled his eyes and he ran off into the woodland. He was scared to go back, honestly scared to face his Master's uncle and the family he felt like he betrayed.
That was when he met him.
Gilbert's eyes snapped open, sending him back into reality. His cheeks were stained with tears, his paw furiously wiping them away. He realized it was night time and he hadn't slept through the night as he wished. "...That dream... Master..." His whisper was sullen. If only he could have protected his Master in his time of need, would things have been different...?

Carrying down the dirt path that was overrun with brush, the red eyed dire walked fearlessly. Even the fearless could be caught up in their own thoughts... which apparently he was. Walking like a thought stricken zombie for a few minutes he soon agreed upon what it was that struck him so and looked around to see where his feet took him.
A sly grin crept across Xerxes' face as he saw a familiar black figure in the near distance. He could smell the sorrow, the fear, the remorse, for the events he knew all to well that were of the past. Happily prancing over he leaned down. "Good Evening, Raven!"

Gilbert was beginning to calm himself down until he saw the familiar face of the clown quickly fill his vision. Jumping in fright, he quickly scrambled to his feet, growling slightly when he realized who it was. "Break, what are you doing here?"
Stupid question. The answer would most likely be 'To annoy you'. Or 'To ask a favor of you'. Maybe even there wouldn't be a common answer. Still... It was rather late at night and the question demanded to be answered.

An amused chuckle filled the music of the night air. Xerxes grinned from ear to ear as he looked at Gilbert's frightened display. "You look as if you've just saw the Devil~" He chimed merrily. As he spoke, his paw waved dismissively, the sleeve falling over it in the process.
"What am I doing here...? Hmm... I'm afraid I cannot answer that." The smile never left his face. "But by that angered look on your face, I'd say you want a better answer...hm?" Slowly he leaned closer to Gilbert, eyes narrowed in dangerous speculation. "How about..."
Purposely pausing, hoping to get the other's hopes up that he would receive an answer, he grinned, baring his canines. "...None of your business~"

Admittedly, Gilbert fell for Xerxes' trick. For once he thought he was going to get a straight answer and when the other toyed with him, he flustered quickly. "B-Break! Why you! Why can't you ever give me a straight answer to anything?! There shouldn't be any secret in coming to see me. For all I know you're lost!" He growled.
The other male had a sheer look of amusement on his face and Gilbert hated that. The other was simply a clown and nothing more. Well... A wise clown. There was no denying that if it wasn't for Xerxes, many things wouldn't have come to fruition... But there was also no denying the fact that if he wasn't around, many things wouldn't have happened at all.

Emily laughed. "We're not lost! We're never lost!"
Xerxes nodded with a grin. "Yes, yes. That's quite right, my Emily~ We aren't lost at all. We were just strolling in the moonlight and saw your familiar figure amongst the brush."
He slowly began to circle the other male and stared up at the sky. "That answer still isn't good enough for you?" The look the black-haired male gave confirmed it wasn't but he would live with that answer. Xerxes knew his personality would try anyone's patience but he did it for a reason. Everyone was annoying to him. If they thought they could figure him out, they became a hassle. And all of this was reasons only known to the beholder.

Gilbert fell silent for a moment and soon heaved a sigh. There was no use sitting there arguing with a doll or the clown. "So... What were you looking for? The others?" He asked in hopes his master was found.
"I haven't seen anyone else we know since we've woke up... Chances are they are still..." He couldn't bring himself to say the word. He had lost his master once... and didn't want to lose him again. The hazel gaze of the frowning dire fell to the ground, studying the specks of dirt and dust. His aura radiated sadness.

"Ah~ That's none of your business." The silver-haired dire spoke slyly. "Now then... Cheer up. Just because Oz and the other's haven't arrived doesn't mean we must wallow in pity..."
Soon the other dire was looking up at him and Xerxes couldn't be more content knowing he caught the other's attention. "Do you really think Oz would stop searching for answers because he got separated from the rest? No. He would continue to find them while searching for the ones he cares about."
Such heart warming speech made Xerxes sick. It was annoying. It meant he cared about the other. Well... He did. But he didn't want it to be known. He didn't want anyone to know if he cared about them or not. After all he was only supposed to use them to get what he desired most.

As Gilbert listened, his eyes widened in shock. Was he hearing Xerxes' words properly or was he still in a dream? Why would the other out of all times show his caring side now?
"...Xerxes..." he smiled a bit and soon rose to his feet. As he went to continue the other cut him off.
"Ah, don't become an annoyance now."
With that Gilbert nodded and remained silent, thanking him mentally for telling him the words he needed to hear.
