whose life
is worth nothing.
A soft breeze filled the school grounds. Alongside the old stone building lay a gravel path dotted with sakura trees in full bloom. A light humming sound filled the air. The source, a young girl, skipped down the path as she hummed her favorite tune. Her short black hair blew in the breeze. She was perfectly happy as she spun in a circle, her pleated skirt swirling around her. Suddenly she stopped and her book bag clattered to the ground. A look of disbelief filled her face as she let out a shriek.
“Iie!”
In front of her lay a macabre scene. A pair of geta lay next to small wooden stool that was on its side. Above them, swaying in the sakura blossom filled breeze was a young man. He wore an old fashioned school uniform and was hanging from a noose tied to a tree. The girl shook her head and jumped, determined to save this man’s life. She grabbed a hold of him and the rope strained from their combined weight. With a loud snap it broke and they both fell to the ground.
