Why is it that for people who want cheap sports cars have to generally settle for somthing like a Golf GTi or a vtech Honda Civic Si or other Front wheel drive cars.
When it comes to production and engeneering is building a Front wheel drive car cheaper? Or Is it somthing to do with the quality of parts needed to produce a Rear Wheel drive car?
And are there any cars currently in production that are Rear Wheel drive and have a engine less than 2 leters or 2000cc, I think that the Honda S2000 is like that. Are there others?

From a manufacturer's point of view, FF cars are for more econimical to produce because they require less parts, meaning a cheaper price for the consumers down the line. This doesn't mean the parts are of a lower quality, but there's just less of them than in an FR car.
FR cars tend to be higher in price because of the extra parts to put the drivetrain in the rear. The benefits over FF cars are apparant though, because it drastically decreases/eliminates torque steer in the car. It also gives the car a better turning radius and quiets/smoothes the ride since the drivetrain is farther away from the driver.That's why a lot of luxury car companies use FR formats for cars.
As for compact FR cars, S2000 is the only one that comes to my mind as well. There was an issue a year or two back on how to modify the Sti drivetrain into a fully rear wheel drive format, but I'm not too familiar with the how-to's on that.

my 2.3L mustang is rear wheel drive, i guess that is over 2000cc but its pretty close....definately love it though much more than some of the new hondas and toyotas

I forgot that Miatas are still in production though, and they've also released a turbo charged MazdaSpeed edition this year. Has good power/weight ratio and 50:50 weight balancing, so that might be a neat drift car. S16 is supposed to come out in the next year or two, but I dunno if Nissan is putting it on the back burner in favor of the anniversary edition Z and the V35 GT-R.

Super Panda old Beetles are RR sweatdrop Isn't the Mx5 under or around 2000cc? All old VW's are RR... I got like a hundred at my house... My dunebuggy's RR. RR's are so good for poping wheelies... In my dad's dunebuggy I can get it to pop and ride a wheelie. He weighs to much for him to do a good one.

Toker All old VW's are RR... I got like a hundred at my house... My dunebuggy's RR. RR's are so good for poping wheelies... In my dad's dunebuggy I can get it to pop and ride a wheelie. He weighs to much for him to do a good one. WOOT xd

some of the old mustangs had 2.3 turbo motors too. you can make those motors hold 20 psi.

And then how would you get it street legal? *wants to pop wheelies*
