I haven't played a single final fantasy game, but I do know the more popular characters like Cloud, Sephiroth, Vincent, Auron, Yuffie, Zack, and Aerith...

Other than the Crystal Chronicles and the X and X-2 the Final Fantasy games follow no chronological order, so you can play any you like. The Advance Tactics one have somewhat of a chronological order... but you do not have to play the first to play the second. 3nodding
My personal favorite is 7, but I am biased as that was my first game ever, period. heart
