I'm not cerain whether or not this is really something paranormal, but it was extremely strange and I thought I'd post it on here and see what everyone thinks.
Last week, I was at the elementary school playground across the street from my house with two of my friends. It was around 9:00 or 9:30; it was beginning to get dark but the sky was still more blue than black, if that gives you a good idea of what the conditions were like.
Everything started out completely normal. We were sitting on the carousel and talking, which is near the entrance to the playground, where we could easily see everyone that came into the playground. An older man walked by early in the evening, and then a couple that appeared to be either in their late teens or early twenties (I'm sometimes bad at judging ages) showed up and went to the other side of the playground to talk. Nothing seemed strange about any of these people.
Then we moved to the swings and were talking and looking at the clouds. Suddenly, I looked up and one of my friends said, "That guy is really freaking me out" and started screaming and turned and ran. My other friend and I didn't see what she was talking about at first, but then we realized that there was a man standing next to a nearby tree and making his way in our direction. The friend that stayed and I stood up, prepared to fight if he was going to try to attack us or anything. (I have extremely long fingernails; I know they don't sound like much of a weapon if you haven't seen them, but I've actually injured myself with them occasionally on accident and I've never really worried about being attacked by anyone because of this. I know it sounds strange online, but if you saw them in real life you would see what I mean.) Anyway, the man was walking straight toward us and everything about him just seemed... predatory, like he was planning on doing something. But instead, he just walked right past us and continued across the playground.
Afterward, we came back a few days ago and looked at the tree and realized that the tree we thought he had been standing behind was actually BEHIND the fence that seperates the playground from a field and some yards next to it. If the man had been standing next to the tree or just in the shadow of it, I'm almost certain I would have seen him before, because I was on the last swing and I was looking right in that direction whenever one of my friends said anything. We're pretty certain that he was behind the tree, if he was there at all before that moment, but the only problem is, he would've had to climb over the fence, which would've made noise. That fence is fairly difficult to climb, and it was quiet at the playground that night so we definitely would've heard anyone jumping over it. We didn't hear anything until he started walking toward us.
The other thing is, I didn't sense him there at all. Normally I can sense when people are around, and I've realized that I'm much better at it at night than in daytime. I didn't even have any idea that anyone was around until I saw him. I will say that I was distracted; my friends and I were having a lot of fun just talking and basically acting like idiots and it may have been that I wasn't paying close enough attention to my surroundings.
However, when I first saw the man, my immediate thought was that he was some kind of spirit or something instead of a human. The really strange part is, when I looked at him, I didn't see any of his facial features, clothing, or anything. He basically appeared to me as just this dark shape of a man coming in our direction; I had to ask my friends to describe him later to me. They said he appeared to be in his forties or so, had a beard, was very muscular, and was wearing a hat. One of my friends also mentioned, however, that when she first looked at him, his face appeared to be in the shadows to her, too.
After he walked by, my friend that panicked had run back to my house, and my other friend and I didn't honestly think that much of it at the time, since the man hadn't done anything or even said anything to us. He continued across the playground and went to talk to the couple on the other side of the playground, which is actually fairly strange in itself, considering that he appeared to be at least twice their age. After about ten minutes, the man and the couple walked by us again, and he turned and looked at my friend and I, laughed a little, and said, "Was she scared?" (meaning my friend that ran home)
Like I said, I'm not sure that it really was anything, but after my friends and I discussed the incident a little more, I'm not so sure. For one thing, there's the part about the tree being behind the fence that I mentioned before, and the fact that we never saw the man walk into the playground. We were there for at least fifteen or twenty minutes before the incident occured, and I would expect it would be difficult for someone to stand still enough that no one would hear him moving at all or sense his presence in any way, not to mention that there doesn't seem to be a reason to just stand under a tree for so long in the first place. Also, even my friends seemed to sense that there was something extremely strange about this man, and they've never really had that many experiences or mentioned being psychic in any way whenever I would talk about it with them. I suppose it could've just been that they thought he was going to do something to us, but I don't know about the part about not being able to see his appearance at first.
We went back to the same playground for a while last night, and everything was fine for the most part. Later, however, one of my other friends, who hadn't been there the first night (It was her, me, and the two friends from when we saw him) realized she had left a package of gum that had her money in it at the school, so we had to go back and get it around midnight. While we were there, we heard a few rustling noises or something coming from part of the playground, but we didn't see the man (or anyone, for that matter).
Maybe I'm just overthinking it, and I'm not certain that I should post about it online, but I thought I'd post it here even though I'm not certain it was really anything out of the ordinary since most of the people on here are more experienced with the paranormal than I am.
