"All's fair in love and war"
Elethar is a land of magic lying parallel to Earth. For centuries, it has thrived, a place of peace and growth. A single kingdom united the whole world, and there was no war, for the old King and Queen were kind and understand, and they paid attention to the needs of every individual, no matter how insignificant that person may be. But just as any happy time, it could not last. The King had always planned to choose his heir according to the tradition, which was that his eldest son take the throne. However, he began to realize that all of his sons were equally qualified, and even his daughters would make gifted rulers. Because of this, the King waited, watching each of his six children grow and seeing who would have the most potential.
Each child grew up, well versed in their studies, and each strong in magic, though their powers were diversified. The King was soon to select his heir, and the whole kingdom became excited. Bets were placed, loyalties forged, and support grown for each of the King's children. Suddenly, the King passed away, leaving the world stunned. There was still no heir to the throne.
The Kingdom split six ways, each son or daughter taking his or her followers and claiming their own territory. The monks in their temple feared the worst at the revelation of a dire prophecy, saying that some day six heroes would come forward from another land to take up the mantles of the princes and princesses. As this prophecy was made and heard across the land, the wars began. Small skirmishes for territory and resources escalated to strategic battles. The brothers and sisters had become bitter enemies in the wake of greed and power. Each was determined to take his or her place as leader of Elethar.
The years passed, and the wars settled down, the leaders of the six factions seeing no hope in victory. Each small faction went their separate ways, leaving the others relatively in peace.
This is how it has been for centuries.
Peace has been made and a pact forged. When the heroes of the monks' prophecy arrive, they will form a council, and will rule the land collectively, though the factions will remain.
Earth knows nothing of this. One ordinary morning, six teens wake to find a strange marking on them. It is a tattoo of a butterfly. Each is a different color, and the teens have no idea where it came from. They hide the tattoos, frightened by the lack of recollection. These six teens are the chosen ones who will return to Elethar. These six teens are the best of friends, each keeping a secret; completely unaware that his or her friends hides the same secret.
The day passes by normally for them, but what happens when they retire to their beds at night? Upon falling asleep, they awake in a palace in a world not their own: Elethar. Believing it to be only a strange dream, the teens go along with what they are told by the inhabitants of Elethar. They discover their magic, and they learn of the rivalry between the eight factions, each represented by a different color. The six take up their positions, dressed as the princes and princesses of old. Their faces hidden behind masks for the sake of protection, the eight reach the temple where the monks explain to them the situation. Going their separate ways and once again returning to their tribes, the teens began to be influenced by their people. Power could be theirs; there would be no need to share.
The dreams are kept hidden from one another the next day, but the teens soon realize that it is more than just a dream. Every night, they return to Elethar to wage their wars. As this continues and the teens become engulfed in the greed and power just as their predecessors, they grow farther apart in their lives on Earth, and none of them know why. The wars on Elethar begin again, though this time with much more trickery. But would some begin to suspect?
In Elethar, war soon becomes somewhat pointless as a free for all. There is no end in sight, and it seems as if the war will go on forever. But secret alliances can be forged, spies can penetrate ranks, and people can be manipulated. How far will the teens go to gain the throne of Elethar? Will they eventually realize their friends have become their enemies, or has power blinded them? Can their friendships be saved?

Literacy This is a literate guild, so I'm not too worried, but please keep it in mind.
Violence and Romance There is the possibility for there to be some violence in the RP. Please keep the TOS in mind when fighting. Gore is perfectly fine by me, but keep it real. You must okay fighting with the player who's character you will be fighting with. Also, no Godmoding or auto-hitting. If I see this, you will be warned. If you don't cut it out, your character will be deleted. Romance is also fine with me. After all, it can make for good stories. Again though, follow the TOS. Nothing too passionate and absolutely no cybering. If it's getting to that point, skip over it.
Joining and Profiles I must have an application first. The application is found in the Application post. All profiles should be posted in the OOC for approval. Please contact me via PM or the OOC if you have a question. See the Application for more details on the profile. Profile pictures must be real life photographs! No anime or paintings, please. Also, I want to see unique characters with original stories. Emos and Scenes don't really have their place in this RP.
Activity Please post every few days. I hate it when people just disappear after a few posts. It really kills a role play. Literally.
Posting Make your posts pretty, please. It doesn't have to be overkill, but I like it when posts look nice, don't you?
Other Use some form of OOC, though all conversations should be held in the OOC thread, as linked in the first post. I am in charge, and have the right to edit and add to these rules. Thank you, and let's have a good, fun RP.

The Turquoise Maiden
Name: Age: Gender: Female In Everyday Life: She is detached and aloof. Free-spirited, she's easily bored and is constantly looking for something exciting to occupy her mind. He tends to be more withdrawn and reserved. In Elethar: He seeks resources and a secure defense rather than outright conquest. Securing his own territory is far more important to him than seeking out more. He views the others as more of competitive rivals than outright enemies, though that could quickly change. Power: Light Taken: Erdentier
The Violet Duchess Name: Age: Gender: Female In Everyday Life: She's the creative one. There's always a sketchbook or notepad handy with this girl. She's always writing or drawing. In Elethar: She likes to work in secret, operating in the shadows through assassins, thieves and spies. She's quick to mistrust, and is suspicious of the others almost immediately. Power: Darkness Taken: Adara Wolfe

Information:
Locations (Earth): Lakeport, CA: This is where part of our story takes place. It's here that our teens go to school, spend their weekends hanging out, and engaging in other normal activities for people of their age.
Lakeport High: The High School the teens attend.
Locations (Elethar): There is a neutral area between all the areas. The territories form a circle around the temple.
The Pergan Grasslands: Dry, tall, wild grasses that are able to survive off little water. Any farming settlements are built along rivers or around lakes. Irrigation systems spread water to supply farms. Wheat production is a major crop. Large trees are limited, and many houses are built of clay and straw. The richer people use stone as well. The days are comfortable, and the nights are often cold. Winters are frigid, though the area rarely sees snow. Frost is a large problem in the colder months. Controlled by The Red Lord Next to The Wetlands and The Rezar Desert
The Rezar Desert: The areas closer to the coast are warmer deserts, occupied by nomadic tribes. They are often hunters, and live in groups of about fifty. Further north, the hot desert becomes a cold one, with moderate day time temperatures and cold night temperatures. There are strong winds throughout the area, and many forts have been built to shield off the storms. Most people live in these fortified communities. Controlled by The Gold Emperor Next to The Grasslands and The Shadowlands
The Shadowlands: Rocky cliffs line the landscape, formed with dark stone, giving the area it's name. Much of the land is overgrown with wild, thick grasses. Many people live in stone houses or in cloth and wood tents, living in large camps. Many of the poorer people are nomadic, hunting beasts. Further east, there is decent farming ground where some crops are raised. The area is cooler, and subject to winds gushing through narrow, rocky canyons. Above the cliffs, the air is usually comfortably warm, and cool at night. There is occasional snowfall in higher elevations during the dead of winter. Controlled by The Violet Duchess Next to The Rezar Desert and The Glacian Mountains
The Glacian Mountains: The whole area is elevated and rocky. Higher altitudes provide cooler weather. Livestock is the main agricultural focus, as crops are hard to raise. Winters, especially winter nights, are often freezing cold, and summer temperatures are moderate. There are higher peaks in the central areas of the Mountains, and much of the area is jagged and rocky. Many homes are carved out of the mountains. Controlled by the Turquoise Maiden Next to The Shadowlands and the Wilden Forest
The Wilden Forests: Southern areas of the forest are filled with Maple, oak, and other decidous trees, many of which are extremely old. The people are hunters and foresters. The area has many sailors and used to be an area of many sea merchants, before the conflicts began. More northern areas are thick with evergreen trees. The people live in the forest, as it offers protection from both beasts and people. Some live in homes carved in ancient trees, while most live in homes made of wood. Controlled by The Green Knight Next to The Glacian Mountains and The Wetlands
The Wetlands: Areas of large amounts of water. There are some areas of marshland, mostly in the far southern areas. Poorer people live here, their homes built on stilts. Due to its southern location, temperatures are warmer. The coastal area is subject to heavy tropical storms during the summer and fall. In the northern areas of the Wetlands, grass grows tall and green. The beaches are typically white sand. Fishing along the coast is a major industry. Controlled by the Blue Princess Next to The Wilden Forests and The Grasslands
The Temple: And old stone temple, whose style is similar to that of a Greek Temple, though carved of darker stone rather than white marble. In the innermost sanctum is where the monks have lived for centuries, shrouded in mystery as they await the fulfillment of the prophecy. It is here where the council of the eight heroes is to meet in peace upon their arrival. The area is colder, and the temple sits atop a plateau. Reaching it is not an easy task, and the plateau is rocky and steep. Pathways have been carved in places, making the journey easier. In the middle of all the territories.

 Beep. Beep. Beep. Whack.
Those were the first four noises that Alice found herself waking up to. The alarm clock went off at six a.m. sharp, and got off three chirps before a well aimed hand came crashing down on the clock, hitting the snooze button. Sighing softly, the small, dark haired girl sat up in her bed, pulling the blanket around her shoulders. It was cold; she must have forgotten to adjust the thermostat to be warmer. It was the beginning of March, but with the rainstorms lately, it tended to be colder at night than it should have been, and Alice was one to get cold easily.
Standing up, Alice turned off the alarm, resetting it for the next morning, and then walked into the bathroom. Alice took a warm shower, and returned to her room to get dressed. She found one of her favorite outfits, consisting of a red and black skirt, black short sleeve blouse, and a short red tie. As she buttoned her blouse, she noticed something, and froze. A butterfly on her hip. Frowning, she returned to the bathroom, soaked a washcloth, and started scrubbing. Nothing happened. It was still there. She scrubbed harder, until her skin was raw and red, but it was still there. She hadn't even managed to fade it. How did it get there? Alice cursed under her breath, trying to recall the night before. She'd been at home doing homework. What the hell happened then? Looking back at the clock, she realized she was starting to run late. She'd have to worry about the picture later, but for right now, she planned on keeping it well hidden.
Straightening her clothes, she headed down to the kitchen. Her mom was already there, and it smelled like she'd made breakfast too. "Pancakes for you, hon. Your dad's car is acting up again, so I'm going to take him to work. Have a good day today, kay?" the woman said, smiling at Alice and putting a plate on the table.
Alice nodded. "Will do. Bye, mom!" she said cheerily as her mom headed out the door. Looking out the window after them, her dad was already in the car, rummaging through his briefcase. Noticing Alice, he waved at her, and she waved back. She grabbed the syrup from the pantry and ate breakfast, depositing the dishes in the sink. About that time, the oldest of her younger brothers came down the stairs, sloppily dressed and still groggy. "Want something to eat? There's pancakes. Mom made them," Alice said to the younger boy. He shook his head.
"Nope. I'm headed out. See ya later," he mumbled, slinging his backpack over his shoulder and heading out the door.
"Jackson! At least fix your hair!" Alice called after him, noting his hair sticking out in every direction. She saw him run a hand through it as he closed the door behind him, headed to the bus stop that would take him to the local middle school. Alice rolled her eyes. He was hopeless.
She headed back upstairs, brushing her hair and pushing it back, clipping a black and red flower clip into it. Grabbing her back, she checked to make sure she had everything before she headed back downstairs, grabbed her keys, and slid on a pair of plaid wedges. She hopped into her car sitting out on the curb, a black Toyota iQ, and drove the short way to school.
She took her normal spot near the back of the parking lot, and walked up to the front of the school. She sat on the front steps, waiting for the rest of her friends to arrive. She was early today, which in her mind made up for being late yesterday. While she waited, she thought about the tattoo again. It was cute, no doubt, but she wasn't really the type to go for a butterfly. She supposed it could have been worse. It could have been pink, she told herself with a slight laugh. Or, it could have been a rainbow. Alice laughed outloud, and someone passing by gave her an odd look, which she met with a cold stare. "What?" she asked, and the kid moved on. "Punk," Alice muttered under her breath. Leaning back, she looked out of the the crowd, watching for her friends.

Levon _ Isidore _ Ruben "Master Ruben you should get up for school soon." his family's long serving butler called from the door.
Levon took one of the extra pillow on his messy bed and hurled it at the door, while shouting for the hundredth time at least "It's Levon, or Ruben, no master Cortez!" Cortez had already vacated the door and moved on, this had happened countless times so it was nothing new, a normal day in his overly comfy bed in his far too warm for the weather room. He sighed and rolled carelessly out of the bed with a loud THUNK before he finally got up. Levon grabbed a plain white t-shirt and a random pair of jeans to throw on and went into the washroom. He ran his hand through his hair and then shook his head, his hair fell back into place and he threw on the jeans. As he started to put the shirt on he stopped though, he thought he saw something and wanted a closer look.
Upon looking closer at his back he could see a clear butterfly marking on his right shoulder, just above his shoulder blade. He scratched at it at first thinking it was simply a trick of the light or perhaps some sort of smudge. It did not come off though, it was gold, and not a dim enough gold to pass for a weird a** tan pattern, it was bright gold. Any brighter and it might have started shining. He turned on the tap and wet his fingertips and tried again to remove the thing, it did not leave or even hide it any better. Finally he grabbed a washcloth and threw it in the sink, pouring soap onto it. He grabbed up the cloth and squeezed out most of the excess water and began scrubbing at the thing he could only describe as a tattoo. "Come off, I've never even considered getting a tattoo, even if I did it would not be a butterfly." he growled but after scrubbing hard for a good solid minute nothing had happened. He sighed and tossed the cloth on the counter before grabbing a towel and drying his back.
He tossed the towel aside pulled on his shirt and moved out the door, down the hall and downstairs. He didn't really like the decor in his house, it always appeared too fancy, too much really. He would have lived in a shack though if only to know what it felt like not to be stuck with all this stuffy... stuff. "What would you like for breakfast s-" Cortez had popped out of nowhere as he usually did but Levon cut him off, "I'll get myself a bowel of cereal thank you Cortez. No protesting either." Levon was used to the butler almost ordering him to have something more but he enjoyed the simple things. He rooted through the pantry and grabbed a box at random, Corn Flakes, he shrugged and closed the pantry. Cortez was already there holding a bowl, spoon and the milk carton.
Levon frowned but took them, poured his cereal and his milk, grabbed them back when Cortez tried to put them away before him and grabbed himself a glass of orange juice beofre sitting down and eating. He looked at Cortez while he ate who simply stared back. Nearing his alst bite he sat straight up, "So where are my mother and father this time?" he sighed. It wasn't unusual but just once he wished his parents spent more then a week at home before taking off again, he couldn't even figure out where his parents got all this money.
"I believe they said they were going to Paris for a short time m- Levon." Levon smiled as Cortez actually remembered his preference against the word 'master.' "Would you like a ride today?" he asked a very curious look on his face.
"Cortez, it's maybe four blocks... I'll walk." Cortez sighed and walked off defeated once again. He almost never took rides, he'd walk or take his bike, it was far more enjoyable to him. The recent downpours left everything wet, and slick, riding his bike would be painful today so he'd walk.
After finishing eating he plopped everything in the dishwasher and ran back upstairs to find Cortez there with his bag. "All packed sir." Levon was the one to sigh this time as he took his bag from the sixty-something year old man. He opened the bag and smirked, running into his room he checked under his bed and found a missing book. He waved it at Cortez like a great prize as he ran by. He put it in his bag and zipped it shut as he ran back downstairs and shoved his feet into his runners. He tried to avoid buying expensive name-brand shoes but it was another thing forced on him now and then. He was sad to admit it but he probably had more shoes then some of the girls in town, seventy-five percent of which he never wore.
Levon ran the short walk, making it an even shorter walk. He scanned around for his friends but it was still pretty early. He thought about telling someone about the tattoo but he didn't even know how he got it in the first place so he decided against it. Besides it was a butterfly, what would his friends think of him? Finally he spotted Alice on the front steps, "Hey, Alice!" he smiled and waved as he approached. He took a seat next to her to wait for the rest of their little group of friends.
