Biography:
The middle child, Durion, was born to Anga and Delotha Gurtha. Anga was under the employ of Lord Ivan Morgead. Ivan was at the time, Council High Chair and ruler of the Deep Forest. He ruled the Deep with a cold, iron fist for decades. His wars with the light left much to be desired. The Council of Shadows deliberated for years. The old, grey, members argued and fought over the future of the Forest they called home. While the bickering continued, a small contingent of Royal Guards executed a plan to usurp the throne. Anga was the Commander of the Guard, the leader of the revolt and mastermind of Ivan’s demise. During the final phase of the coup, Anga suffered a mortal blow that kept the final pieces of the plot from falling into place. The idea was to get someone from the Gurtha bloodline to take the reins and usher in a new age. With Anga dead, the plan seemed to lose volition. In a panic, the Council announced the coming Twilight Festival, wherein there will be competition for the throne of Lithlad and power over the shaded lands of The Deep.
Durion was a Beast Master. In his youth, Durion played among the Great Wolves that lived just north of The Overlook. Dome, Durion’s companion, was born on the same day and hour as his master; their connection could be seen from birth. When the two were twenty, they embarked on a sojourn that lasted twenty years. It was in this time that the two visited the caverns of his mother’s kin, deep in the Mori’Re Mountains. His skills as both hunter and warrior excelled under the tutelage of the Dark Elf master swordsmen. His reason for this course of study was simple; the Magus dwelled in the same caves and caverns as the Dragons and Dark Elves. The Magus was a circle of dark mages that exiled themselves to the depths of Mori’Re, sick of the decadence of the lands above. They held in their possession magics from ages dead and buried. He sought power over shadows and creatures of the Deep, instead he found more. The Magus seized the opportunity and began his training, infusing him with the knowledge of a hundred dead civilizations. Durion became a lord of shadows, master to the creatures of the Deep; Durion was a darker stronger warrior. He had become a master of dark deceptions and swordplay. When the time came, Durion gathered his tomes, packed his things and returned to the Deep Forest. Durion went back to the Overlook and back to his family.
Upon his return, Durion found life had changed in his family. His Eldest sister had married and his youngest sister had grown into such a lovely woman. The Deep Forest had deteriorated into an endless sea of black violence. The Deep had fallen into disarray. The Council High Chair had become drunk with power. His armies had begun to plunder and pillage the very people they were trained to protect. Around Durian’s 43rd birthday, The Lower Council members convened with Anga and the High Guard of Lithlad to discuss a ploy to overthrow the High Chair. The Idea was to replace Ivan with Anga and grant the people of the Deep a fresh start. When the plan fell through, just moments short of completion, the Council turned to Durion. In his heart Durion knew his time had not yet arrived, he was to wait. The seat lay vacant for thirty long years before the announcing of the Twilight Bazaar. It is there, the council will call for the Obsidian Challenge; An invitation only competition that pit’s the ultimate warriors and mages against each other for the position of High Chair. As expected, a council messenger approached the dark master. His Great Wolf at his side, Durion reads the invitation sent by the council. This was his chance to realize his father’s dream, the chance to finish his father’s last task. He had to try. Durion gathered his things and bade his family farewell. He was to start the trek towards destiny and his father’s chair. The Bazaar was fast approaching. Now there was only the fight; he had preparing to do.
