Alrighty, this is my first shot at making a guide. Alot of people say I am a really good tektek-er so I decided to give this whole Guide thing a shot. Wish me luck!
Alright, there is alot of things that go into making a good avatar and even more things to make a great one. I'm going to give you my tips and some of my tektek-ing secrets so you can look exceptional too!!
1)) The basic Questions you ask yourself when you want to make an avatar.
a:: What color's do you like? Do I want two or more in my avatar? ((This is really important so you can come up with a color combination.))
EX:: I particularly like teal, white, purple, black, gold, brown, baby pink, grey, blue, aqua, and green.
b:: Alright, now that I know what colors that I like, what colors look good together? ((It's not a smart thing to slap two random colors together because the avatar wouldn't look pleasing to the eye.))
EX:: Colors like teal go good with pastel colors like a soft pink or a soft yellow but not with baby blue. Purple goes good with gold, white, black, hot pink. Black can go with everything, same with white.
c:: Do I want one, two , three, or more colors in my avatar? ((The more colors, the more that there is to look at. If there are to many colors than the avatar looks tasteless.))

d:: What theme am I going for? ((This also applies for seasonal events))
EX:: Elegant, Cowboy, Steam-punk, spunky, Rainbow.
e:: How much money am I willing to put forth? ((I'm not saying that all avatars need to be ungodly expensive.))
Now that you have the basic questions, lets apply them.
Q:: What colors am I going to use??
A:: Let's go for Purple, gold, black, and white
Q:: What's my theme?
A:: Let's go for elegant.
Here are the items I will use to show you what I mean by distributing.

Now let's add that all together and give it a base ((Hair/eyes/skin))
See how the colors are distributed evenly? That is called balance. You can do this on a cheap budget.

**Make sure that your eyes compliment your avatar. If they don't use a item that changes your eyes.

**If you attempt a monotone Avatar do not let your shades VARY!! Like having grey on a pure white avatar.
**Don't rely on starter clothes.
**Do not, I repeat, DO NOT steal other peoples work and call it your own.

**It's ok to try new things! You never know what you'll like and not like.
**Be original! Make your avi something that catches peoples attention.
**Have fun!!
**PRACTICE!! The more you practice, the better you become.
**When in a contest that allows Dream free layering, use it! It's one of the most helpful feature on tektek.org!
**Experiment with different hairstyles. You never know what looks good.
