Yuma sat down in an empty place a bit nervous to talk to any of the other kids. She wasn't the type to go making friends first, usually groups just accumulated her later on and once they got to know her, her energetic side came out. Her father had told her not to worry about everything too much when she asked if she would be good or not, he was a medicore wizard as it was she would have no problem with the basics he had told her. She didn't like being mediocure in anything though which bothered and worried her more about not being good enough. Jim made his way down the corridor looking worriedly at the passegers. Most of spots that had openings had a handful of older kids and he wasn't about to try to sit with them, and the ones that had kids his age were all packed to the brim.
Finally on the last one he only saw one long haired girl sitting by herself. With relief he opened the door and asked. "Do you mind if I sit here? This place is packed and this is the only spot left." Yuma was a bit fidgety but she gave a small meek nod. Then looking at the pretty view outside the window. She hadn't know what to really do when she got there she had her wand with her she had been practicing before Jim had come in. She had hastly put it away after that only having been able to create sparks.
Jim tried to make some small talk. "So uh...do you know what your doing? I mean...can you do magic already? I didn't even know there was magic until a few weeks ago..completely...muggle, yeah that's the word...completely muggle born I thought but apparently my grandpa's a wizard. I'm still think this is one big dream."
Yuma chuckled,"My father was a wizard but we didn't know. I can't do anything really just practicing making light. My father said it was easy...." She mumbled about how it wasn't easy at all to her. "But apparently you say lumos. Maybe you should try see if your any good at it." Jim sighed. "Oh I haven't even tried anything yet...I thought that's why we were going to school was to learn this stuff..I can try." He pulled out a long wand from his bag and held it out and said. "Lumos!" But nothing happened. "Erm...let me try again..." He took a deep breath and flicked his wand a bit and said lumos again. A tiny flicker of light came out of his want but disappeared almost instantly. "Hey I did something!"
Yuma smiled,"I got sparks. Not much for a light in the dark huh?" She was becoming glad to not spend the whole trip by herself. "My name is Yuma." She held her hand out for him to shake. Suddenly a door burst open, making them both jump and a shorter stockier blond haired boy burst in panting heavily. "I'm....sorry...Barely made...it." He sat down next to Jim and sat there catching his breath for a while, while Jim just watched him. After a while he took a deep breath and said. "Sorry about that. My dad and I were running late for the train. Can't believe I almost missed it, and on my first year too! I've been waiting for this my entire life. My dad actually had to apparate me on here cause the train started moving while I was getting my stuff on. Sorry about budging in here but there was no where else and I was desperate to sit down. I'm Eddie Newman by the way. You guys are?"
"Yuma." She said almost just as shy as she was before when Jim first came in. "Whats apparate?" She said confsued on what he meant. Jim shrugged,"Yeah, apparate?" Eddie looked confused for a moment. "Oh! you guys must be muggles or at least half-bloods or something. Sorry, I'm from a pure blood family and I grew up on all this stuff. Apparate is when you can go from one place to another instantly, it's like...oh what was it..I saw it in a muggle movie once...Teleporting!" Jim smiled "Wow, you can teleport!?"
Eddie nodded. "Yeah but it's really hard to do and you have to pass a test to be able to do it when your 16. Lot's of people don't pass it the first time." Yuma smiled,"Really?" She sounded excited. She figured she would have to get use to the word muggle being used, it appeared to be the in word. "So you know how to do magic then? Whats it like growing up around it?"
Eddie just shrugged. "Normal for us. I can't imagine what it would be like without it. You guys are in for some weird stuff. And I don't know how to do any magic. I just got my wand two days ago. No matter what you are you don't start doing magic until you get to school." Yuma paused a moment,"Oh ok..." She smiled,"I heard that you can change into animals but thats silly. I didn't beleive my father. Thats all in the story books right?" A trolley came up asking if they wanted snacks. There didn't appear to be much chocolate on it and her father had given her little money or whatever the coins were really.
Jim had had his birthday money converted to wizard gold in gringotts and bought them some snacks. Eddie thanked him. "Oh wow thanks a lot man, I don't really have any money. None of my family does really. It's just my Dad and my two brothers. Both of them are in Hogwarts too. 'Cept they're way older. Rich is a fourth year and David's a sixth year. You can turn into animals but that's some of the hardest magic there is. And you have to go through this huge registration process to do it. I hear our headmisstress can do it but that may just be a rumor."
Yuma's eyes got big,"Really? I thought he was pulling my leg." She stayed quiet a moment munching on her jelly beans. "Ugggg!" She said suddenly. "What the heck? It tastes just like asparagus...." She looked at the box and raised an eyebrow,"Is there anything normal?" Eddie laughed. "Oh yeah there is but you might get anything." Jim looked at a bean suspiciously and then put in in his mouth. "I got bacon!...it's not bad..."
(Author note: Bacon...just sounds nasty in jelly bean form.)
Yuma was done,"Thats gross." She pushed the beans away from herself and handed it to Jim. "You never told me your name?" Jim looked puzzled. "Oh I thought I did. Jim Feldman. So what's this about houses? My grandpa was telling me something about there being different houses. He was in griffin-something." Eddie nodded. "Gryffindor. My whole family's been in it. That's the one you want to get to. All the best wizards have been in gryffindor. Although Ravenclaw's not bad either. The one's you want to avoid are Hufflepuff and Slytherin."
"My dad was from Hufflepuff." Yuma said a bit offended. Eddie shrugged. "Sorry, but I can't see why anyone would want to be in it. No one really seems to know what it's for. Gryffindor is for the brave and loyal. Ravenclaw is for the really smart, Slytherin is for the evil and crafty, and Hufflepuff...well it's kinda just for the rest."
