Light techies, come here to vent about our tough jobs! Personally I hate it when you try so hard during rehearsals to put a spotlight on someone giving a monolouge, and then in an actual performance they're not in the light! evil

I hate it when the director is perfectly ambiguous about what happens when (i.e the amount of light on certain areas), times to turn off the lights, and what lights to turn off at said points. Oh, and to top it all off, the stupid woman gives you a script with cues as brilliant as this: "LQ 1: 2 Spots on chorus", "LQ 2: Spot off". How many spots off? We never knew! scream

I run lights for out off department shows like chior, band, churches. Easy gigs really. I'll never be able to endure crying what Holly and Cassidy have to go through during the big productions crying . But I know how to hang lights too if needed but I don't fully understand how to program the board.

I hate when the chorus director moves lights around for concerts without saying something o.o
This year for winter show I am just not setting any lights until the day before our show, because of COURSE there's a choir concert earlier that week -.-
Which makes me angry as hell. I hate the chorus director's uncooperative-ness.

you know what really sucks?
Not having a lighting rig!! We're making aibd to be a specialist college for Performing Arts and we don't even have lighting rig because it exploded and they won't get it fixed!!
How the hell are we supposed to put on a full production with no lighting rig? Hmm? Hmmm?!

i got really annoyed at this one cue i had! it was after cinderella finishes her lovely night coda, i was supposed to blackout on her, then we had an auto-follow come up on the towns people singing the repise again so we'd have time to change the sets, but every time id blackout on cinderella, shed sit there in the dark then wait for the light to come up till she moved! it looked terrible!!!!! i also hate when actors forget cue lines or entrances, then it gets messy trying to skip cues........ rofl

Pezgirlie i got really annoyed at this one cue i had! it was after cinderella finishes her lovely night coda, i was supposed to blackout on her, then we had an auto-follow come up on the towns people singing the repise again so we'd have time to change the sets, but every time id blackout on cinderella, shed sit there in the dark then wait for the light to come up till she moved! it looked terrible!!!!! i also hate when actors forget cue lines or entrances, then it gets messy trying to skip cues........ rofl It was even worse for the stage crew (me)! She wouldn't move so we could close the curtains and move the sets. And it was a big enough task moving those set peices around behind a god-awful TRANSPARENT curtain, but to run over Cinderella? rolleyes

Get this: in the production of The Fantastiks that I'm in, I'm a light tech. I'm supposed to help the other girl, Diana with lights 'cuz she knows so much more than me. (I am in awe of her...n_n) BUT I found out that she won't be there for the performances so I have to learn to trouble shoot, repair, and fully run the board. I'M ONLY A FRESHMAN!!!! GAHHHHH! Plus she told me that there are light changes almost every 3 minutes. crying

Two of the three can be lowered with a wrench system. Once the wrench cable one one got jammed and we couldn't fix it so we had to get pros to come and fix it. I believe it costed us $2000 because they had to take the reel/drum apart.
