While I know where to buy/ train/ all of that, I must say I personally enjoy the fans, the bo staff, the kama, and the nunchacku. I also enjoy the broadsword... how about you?

Well, I'm not in kenpo, but I wanna make a conversation last. In my school of Okinawan kobudo, which I think is a mix of Ryukyu Kobudo and Matayoshi Kobudo, we use bo, sai, tonfa, nunchaku, kama, eku (oar), nunti bo, tekko, and on certain occasions such as seminars, we use katana. The only weapons that I have the most training in are bo, sai, nunchaku, tonfa, and tekko. As for my kenjutsu, I had a little training and taught myself the rest just by copying moves from different sword schools.

That's quite alright that you don't train in kenpo. At least in the circles that I am taught in, there isn't much emphasis placed on weapon use. Granted, we do train with weapons occasionally, but Ed Parker's focus was never on weapons training (karate is the way of the empty hand) though, throughout the years, people took a liking to various weapons and begun to teach their usage in the Kenpo curriculum. I know that at the schools around here, the first time you learn to use a weapon (other then to attack someone in a technique line) is when you learn Staff set as, I believe, a brown belt.

There isn't really any such thing as a kenpo weapon, as most weapons we use today were not intended to be weapons but in fact were farming tools that the villagers began to secretly develop fighting strategies for during periods of time where Martial Arts practices were outlawed among the common people, and reserved only for the elite military.

Examples, the bo staff has many utilitarian functions, such as aid in walking, carrying water buckets long distances, etc. The Sai, the famous three pronged sword, was actually used to plant rice in paddies; it's obvious of the fans utilitarian function, but it wasn't until later that people began to hide blades in them for use as a weapon, the same with the walking cane.

You do know that I train in Okinawan Kobudo as well as in Goju ryu, plus I'm a martial arts history researcher. So explaining to me how Kobudo weapons were originally farming tools used by the Okinawans is nothing new to me, at all. I'm very sorry if you think I'm coming off as rude, I just hate getting told things that are not new to me.

I'm sorry you felt I was directing my comment at you and not to everyone in the conversation, who may or may not know that. As some of the people in here were making references to Kenpo and it's weaponry I thought that perhaps there was a need for some clarification. I'm sorry if I offended you, but remember, you are not the only one in here. wink

Well, I mentioned that I have no kenpo training, which is why I thought it was towards me. Thank you for clarifying.
