It all started with Knifty Knitters. Those things are addicting. Then, I happen to get 3 gigantic trash bags and then some spilling over of yarn. Most of it is in balls, so I'm not sure what kind it is, but I have a pretty good idea. But, I'm not sure what to do with all of it. I've already knifty knitted a bag to hold all my small projects when I'm done with them, and I'm almost done with a lap blanket and a scarf.
I've been collecting knitting needles from thrift stores, right now I have, knifty knitters circular and long looms, crochet hooks (6 and 4) and knitting needles (some double ended-no idea what size, 4's, short 5's, 6's, 8's, circular 8's and 35's).
I'm a beginner and this is all very overwhelming! lol Help! I feel ambitious, but I'm not sure how to go about it all... Any good patterns with video instructions? I work best with a video rather than written instructions..
Thanks!!

I was given a box of thread and a set of steel thread hooks when I started crocheting. I found patterns and just started crocheting things to work on my skills. I used a combination of written, oral, and step-by-step photo instructions to get started.
Ravelry has a very good chart to enter your hooks and needles into. It's helped me to keep track of what I have and what I still need. I have a modified copy in my purse to take when I go shopping.

@OhNoesItsMiho - I've actually been on youtube, that's I found the CyberSeams's instructionals for casting on and off and garter stitch. That's all I've been using lately, but it's effective! Can you recommend any particular vids?
@ForestGreen - I'm already a member of Ravelry! (add me! I'm Scarlet-Begonias ) I didn't know you could keep track of your needles and hooks on there though.. cool!

Hmm, what else could you do with that yarn? You could always make amigurumis and just hand them out during the holidays lol

I've been thinking about that, but I'm only really comfortable with the garter stitch right now. I'm going to attempt the purl stitch today, so I can do the stockinette stitch and make my fiance a DS holder with cartridge pockets.

I like to make afghans with my random yarn. Just start crocheting and keep adding. They can turn out pretty cool looking that way! Good luck!

just practice and experiment is my suggestion. Try to learn a couple patterns and go to town making scarves, hats, blankets and the like.
If you feel like it there are some really nice charities that have simple hat patterns meant for beginners that you can do. Then you not only are getting some practice but also helping a good cause.
Also there are projects you can do with yarn that don't require you to knit or crochet out on the internet.
I'd keep the yarn and add to it over time, once you get more experience you'll be able to use up what you have with ease,
