Coming from a family with a father who used to be in the DPRK's military, mainly under Kim Il Sung I have a sorta odd background on this sort of thing. From what he talks about it my father always praises Kim Il Sung as a very brilliant man and revolutionary though seems far more critical of his son especially in light of recent developments.
So though its a lesser known form of Marxist thought I just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were on Juche both its theory and practice in North Korea and elsewhere. And specific opinions on Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il are fine too.
Sorry I havent been too active but hopefully this thread should be fun. ^_^

Unfortunately I know little of Juche beyond the wikipedia article, and I suspect most know little about Juche as well.
However comrade Tank may be able to provide some decent discussion. He knows a bit about it and has a personal liking for North Korea.
All I know of North Korea is that the government there is hideously oppressive, but at the same time it is a country with a predominantly nationalised and planned economy. As such it must be defended from imperialist attack by capitalist powers.

Wont happen, the new leader was already decided if precedent upholds. It will be Kim Jong il's youngest son who was just appointed to a high position within the Communist Party of Korea and upper circles. Its not "God King Kim Jung Il" its Dear leader get it right xp

The Main issue is like most dynasty's is that Kim Jong il is and always will be an artist unlike his Daughter who is a Swedish educated Marxist Economist. She is what I wanted to be next in line but sadly she is not. Being that Dear Leader is an artist he poured money into monuments and the "great Games" instead of into the economy. Another issue is that the "Korean Miracle" is/was still in your grandparents mind during Kim il Sung or was your father an orphan like most children post Korean War? Juche isnt designed to be put really anywhere else and the main reason why is because North Korea resembles a more traditional Korea then South Korea. Its made for specifically the North Korean situation, however I am hearing that there are some sects arising but who knows.

I think Kim Sul-Song would have been a much better choice for the DPRK's Leader, but what's done is done. I know very little of the Juche idea, but the DPRK fascinates me. In my opinion, Kim Il-Sung was a much better leader than Kim Jong-Il. Just my opinion.

Like others have said I think Kim Sul-Song would have been a much better choice, she's an economist and thus much more of a realist. Also under her reign we would see some of the money currently going to military go to workers. Of course if North Korea does complete its nuclear program than there will also be a likely reduction in troop numbers because they won't be as much of need to defend against the imperialists. The weapons will make the Bourgeoisie will think twice about an invasion. Though I'm surprised the transition is going so quickly, didn't it take about a decade of two for Kim IL Sung to prepare for Kim Jung IL to take the reigns? I'm not sure what to make of Kim's youngest son, because I know pretty much nothing about him. I wish there was more information coming out of North Korea, but I haven't found much.

Louis-Auguste Robespierre I absolutely love how people here are talking about which bureaucratic strongman (or wather, woman) they want in power. No matter who was in power, the place would still be rules by a Stalinist bureaucratic caste. What is needed in that country, as in China, Vietnam, Cuba (and Laos?) are Workers' Councils. I don't know much about Juche either (again, the wikipedia page....) but I'd be interested to hear some info about it from OP... a crash course or something. xD
Also I'd like to know what your father's specific praises of Kim Il Sung are and more importantly.. criticisms of Kim Jung Il (I seem to remember on a thread a while ago in ED-P or something you said your father fled the country, so the criticisms must be pretty important).

The main issue is that the military is above the party or is actually is the party depending upon how you look at it. Since the military first policy in 1996 and prior the military has had a huge role. Thus the structure in my opinion would be the Family, Military, Party...its a triangle of power... thus they have to appease the military or "save face" which nuclear armaments allow. Nobody really knows about Kim's youngest son... but atleast its not his oldest.

I do but some historians dont anymore.
