Kinda weird question, but does religion place limitations on a person's thinking?
PostPosted: Sun Jul 12, 2009 1:37 pm

Not on thought persay, but a person should find and look for truth in every way possible. Every falseness or lie that a person wastes their time on is time that could have been looking for truth and understanding.

Of course it does! There is a reason why 96% of scientists are athiest!

Yes, via dogma, that is, unquestionable claims.

Would you mind citing that? I think that's a bit of a high number, considering anybody can be a scientist, and the fact that everything you see is science.

God can read your thoughts, and he my judge upon them. BUT, the devil can also put thoughts in your head as well. This is a bit complicated. Lets just say actions speak louder than thoughts.

back in the 1700-1950 most scientists were christians. Theyre probaly smarter than modern day scienists. With the exception of Eienstein but he was jewish.

If anything, Faith empowers thought. It inspires things like Courage, Thought, Strength......and a lot more.

How would religion restrict thought?

Its true, Intelligence is based on IQ. Eienstein had a higher IQ than scientists today. So I dont know why youre laughing. If it wasnt for people like eiestein, modern day scientist would be years behind technology.

Only ethnically, if that - he quite clearly opposed the Abrahamic notion of deity, advocating instead a Sponizian pantheism.

Because you are encouraged to just go along with the bible. So people stop thinking on new thoughts and more on "God". And the chruch has historically looked down on free thinkers. Such as Galileo or Darwin. They have no ideas that do not agree with the religion so they are INSTANTLy wrong. We can see how Galileo's "Blaspheme" turned out.

It wasnt just the church, everybody looked down on him for that.

The church was basically the ruling power of the day. If they say its wrong them everyone thinks its wrong. And many philosophers and scientists agreed with him. But luckily the church was proven wrong (not the first time).
