Murphy contemplated the peaceful, sleeping face of his twin. His only twin, in the whole wide world. Although Seamus was certainly not as gorgeous as him, or as intelligent or gifted, he still loved him. Sometimes. Like now. Now, when he was asleep.
"Asleep on the job, sweet brother of mine?" he crooned under his breath, hovering over his mirror-image. Seamus had been acting strangely, lately. A while ago he'd spent the night sleeping off a hangover at their mum's house, and soon after that had returned home with the most insane of grins upon his face even as he swore up a storm. And today he had crashed. Woke up looking like hell warmed over and had barely been able to trudge to work.
It was interesting. And Seamus was shut up tighter than a clam on the subject. Despite being twins, they very rarely actually confided in each other. Because they used their words as weapons against the other, more often than not.
But now Seamus was at peace. Sleeping the sweet sleep of kings.
Murphy smiled, and uncapped the Sharpie marker in his hand.
"Alas, poor Seamus, he was not smarter than a cucumber."

Quinn decided to visit Vale's work once more. (Because, it worked out so well last time, and it only cost him a pair of sunglasses!) He was half looking for Vale, and half looking for Seamus. Either one would be fine. He ended up spotting, from a far, two Seamuses. He paused.
No, one Seamus and a slightly-less-hot seamus. That must be his twin. Quinn strolled over to them, noting the Seamus on the ground. Then he looked at the twin with the sharpie.
"Hi. I'm Quinn. I'm your brother's friend." He paused, and try to quickly figure out what would be the best thing to say at that moment to endear himself to this other twin. Only one thing came to mind. "Do you have another sharpie?"

Murphy looked up from his god-given endeavor, critically inspecting the one that had broken the circle.
Quinn, Quinn-- he knew about Quinn. Talked with Valeriu about him. Unlike Seamus, he did not immediately hate the boy on sight - because if Valeriu liked him, there had to be a reason. And if he had made friends with Seamus? Even more of a reason.
"Why yes, yes I do." He flourished the green Sharpie; he also had red, purple, yellow, blue, and pink, but he was saving the best for last. Carefully, he started drawing a mustache on his twin. It was glorious. A handle-bar mustache. ********, he wished he had one of his own if it looked this good on Seamus.
"I didn't know Seamus had friends," he added another curl to the 'stache. "I always thought he was too much of a dork to get one."

"I kind of forced it on him," Quinn said, beginning the doodlings of a goatee. His artsy nature really showed through with his doodle; the goatee was finely detailed. "You're right, he is a little bit of a dork. But he's a cool dork." Quinn nodded. His eyebrows didn't look angry enough. Let's fix that!
"So, why is he sleeping? Aren't you guys supposed to be working?" Not that Quinn disapproved of laziness; quite the opposite.
"Oo!" he almost squealed, "We should draw eyeballs out the outsides of his eyelids." He was having too much fun with this. "And earrings, and stuff." he nodded.
"Good job with the mustache. You're quite the accomplished face doodler."

"Years of practice, m'boy," he chimed heartily, giving Seamus an affectionate peck with the pen. He looked at Quinn, and there was a strangely blank look in his eyes: "Work? What is this...work you speak of?"
He looked around.
"We just like to hang out here! Ha, work," he chuckled. It was a good laugh. So was the delicate game of Connect-the-Dots he was playing with his twin's freckles. The man's face twitched a bit, scrunching in irritation before smoothing again.
"Dunno why he's sleeping," he mused, drawing a target on his nose. "Probably another girl givin' him the go-around. Bloody fool. Nothin' cool about this one, no siree. Especially when he wakes up."
He grinned, manically, at the thought.
"So what brings you to our neck of the woods?"

"Maybe so," he mused, about the girl. "And that's not true. Your brother's why I'm here, actually. Well, him and Vale. I was here to check up on your brother, to make sure he was all right, and to see Vale. I haven't spotted the latter, yet, so I just figured I'd get to know Seamus's brother." He laughed. "I'm glad I did."
"So, no one notices and you guys still get paid? That's awesome. I want this job." He grabbed another sharpie and added in some details to his goatee and eyebrows with different coloring.
"Another girl? Does it happen often?" He glanced inquisitively at Murphy.

It wasn't nice to laugh at your brother. It wasn't - but Murphy did. Sniggered right under his breath, he did.
"As often as the son rises, boyo, and as reliable too!" He was busy connecting the freckles dipping down Seamus' neck - even the one, isolated little speck that was on the tip of his ear. It was divine design, for Murphy did not get that freckle.
"Alright?" he asked, and his curiosity was piqued. He knew enough not to worry needlessly over his (younger!) twin, but if there was something wrong with him, he wanted to know. "Did somethin' happen to him?"
"Nothin' worse than what's gonna happen to you," came the grumpy growl hidden beneath layers of Sharpie markings. Seamus' eyes squinted open, blearily glaring at his red-handed b*****d of a brother. "That better not be a Sharpie, Murphy."
"Not a Sharpie, Seamus-"
"You're lying--"
"Swear on Mum's grave!"
"She's not dead yet!"
"Swear on Baby Jesus."
"You're going to Hell," Seamus finally gave up, laying back after giving his brother a swift kick in the side. He took notice of the other organism present, and the angry eyebrows drawn upon his face did no tribute to the real expression. "You. Me. We need to talk. Now."
"Not until the bell for recess rings, Seamus," Murphy quipped with a grin. "Or else you'll get in trouble with the schoolmarm, you will. And what will our parents think of you then?"

Quinn sighed. "Yes, of course, Seamus. That's why I'm here." He carefully slid the sharpie behind his back over closer to Seamus. "I was here to check up on you." He stood up.
"Murph," Quinn said, deciding to shorten his name, "You sure you can't tell the principal to ring the bell a bit early this time?" Quinn laughed, and winked. "Our talk is kind of important."
Quinn was glad he was able to avoid the question Murphy had poised to him. He didn't want to have to explain it. 'Erughm, yes, I'm your brother's drug dose.' Bad idea.
"So, shall we move over to a secluded corner somewhere to chat?" he intoned to Seamus.

The more gregarious of the twins laughed, standing up. "I think I can work something out. Teacher's pet and all." He made the sad puppy face, though. He'd worked really hard on that face. "Awhh, shucks, I see how it is." He kicked the dirt, sadly. "I'll just be over here. Alone." He took a few steps away, looking back at his brother. "All alone." A few more steps. "One is the loneliest number that I'll ever do-"
"Someone's got fried chicken in their lunch pail today," Seamus interjected, and Murphy shot off like a bottle-rocket.
"Here's secluded enough." That, and he didn't really want to get up right now. "Murphy only found me because he can sense where I am at all times."
He was serious. Seamus honestly believed that Murphy knew.
He rubbed at his cheek, trying to get the marker off.
"It didn't work. Not for very long." He was already getting that weird thirst again; like an itching in his brain that was digging deeper and deeper. "And I blame you."
He pointed a finger accusingly at Quinn, and then realized his hand was covered with hearts, stars, and horseshoes - clovers, and blue moons. Pots of gold and rainbows, and a red balloon.
"Murphy!"

"I told you, I don't get how it works, either. Not yet, anyway. Looks like it's acting exactly like a drug." He plopped down again so he was sitting in front of the boy. "Yeah, it's my fault, but I didn't mean to. And it looks like the only way to make sure you're safe is to get regular doses from me."
Quinn laughed. "I like your brother. He's fun. You have me to thank for the goatee and angry eyebrows, though." He grinned.
"So, do you want me to bite you again? It seems like our only choice, for now. I hope there aren't any long-term side effects." He paused.
"I mean, you know, there probably aren't," he backtracked, "But you never know."

"No, I don't want to be bitten again," he frowned. Angry eyebrows. So very angry. Itch. Itch, itch, itch -- "I can just wait through the withdrawals. They shouldn't kill anyone, right?" Just had to be strong.
Man, he was really thirsty.
"You didn't have to bite me. That's overkill, hombre. I mean, like - so I hit you with a shovel. Big deal. It wasn't even the sharp edge."
Although it did leave a bruise. He smiled at that. And then he frowned again.
"But you had to go and bite me." He thought about standing up, proudly and arrogantly, but decided he didn't want to. "I should call my lawyer. Oughtta sue you for being a stalker and a drug dealer."
s**t. s**t, s**t, s**t - his hands were trembling, and that itch was digging deeper. Seamus didn't even particularly like being high! He'd never been thrilled with drugs, or alcohol, or cigarettes or sex. Sure, he'd dabbled - what teen hadn't? - and he'd quickly tossed Camel Joe to the curb, but this was something he never would have messed with. Too strong.
It was worse than heroine, and he'd seen that stuff ******** some people right up.
He so terribly wanted to punch Quinn, right in the face. But if he did, then this wouldn't get fixed, and Valeriu would find out, and he did not want that poor kid to know. This could be fixed. It would just take a little while. He'd be right as rain before anyone else knew, and Valeriu wouldn't need to stress and Murphy wouldn't get the chance to ridicule him.
He clenched his hands to hide the trembling, looking for all the world like he would enjoy giving Quinn a knuckle-sandwich.
"Fine. I can do this, for now. You get me some bottled stuff of that, and you figure out how to reverse it. Got it?"

"You're right, and I apologize for that." Quinn was already lacing his fingers around the other boy's, to be sure he stayed still. "I didn't know it would get you this addicted; the last person I bit was a godling, and they're probably much more likely to bounce back from the poison." He was trying to decide on where to bite. He could go for the base of the neck, again, or he could experiment, to see if it worked anywhere else.
"I don't know about bottles. I've only ever released it after biting, out of reflex. But I can try." Quinn decided to just go ahead and bite the boy, but something stopped him right before his teeth touched flesh. This boy wanted him. Needed him. Desperately needed what Quinn had to give him.
And he wanted to savor it. Something in Quinn's eyes was not quite right, wasn't Quinn; It was much darker. Much more sinister. He wanted to enjoy the need in this man.
"Stay still," he whispered. "Stay still, or I won't bite." That, in hindsight, was a very strange sentence. Then, he leaned forward, making it very obvious he was heading for a kiss.

He stood still for maybe all of a half of a second - more likely from surprise than actual compliance. It probably was quite disconcerting to have a Player coming in that close; especially a Player with fangs.
But Mum had taught them well when they were younger, knowing intrinsically that there would be nothing but trouble in their future. Don't take candy from strangers; wash your socks; stop pulling on your sisters' hair. And, most importantly: if someone gets in your face, Knock Him Out.
It wasn't the most effective of round-house punches. He was, after all, sitting down. He wasn't very energetic at this time either. And Quinn had already attempted to stifle any movement, pre-emptively pinning his hands down with laced fingers. But his fist ultimately traced the same arc of the shovel, popping Quinn in the cheek reflexively the minute he Crossed That Line.
He frowned at his fist, and at the godling he just whapped.
"As much as I appreciate your concern about makin' this entire experience a little more enjoyable," he drawled, and it was clear the thought wasn't so enjoyable to Seamus, "You can just stick to where it's been. Thanks."

Quinn was hit in the face again. For the second time in a week. He glared at the boy. "Oh, really? Well, then. I suppose you won't be needing my help." He gave a bright, warm smile to the boy, afer he stood up.
"But, I have a question, Seamus. I hear you're not so good with women. When was the last time you were kissed? Weeks? Months?" He smirked. "I'm better than any chick you can find on the street, I can promise you that." Quinn brushed the dirt off of himself, and looked back at Seamus.
"Point being," He explained, "I'd love to hear about your next date with someone. If you make it that long, with those withdrawal symptoms."

"It's not my fault that bint dropped me for her own cousin!" he raged. The mere thought of that woman had him red with anger and wishing he had his shovel again. So he could jam and slam and beat it into the ground.
He was close to it, too, until he fell back again, the momentary energy skittering away and leaving him drained. And sad. Very sad.
"I bought her flowers. You know how much those cost?" he muttered, scrubbing at the marks on his hands. They cost a lot, they did. It was hard to get them.
It may have been a while since Seamus really recovered enough to go back to the lookout for love, but even he wasn't so desperate as to start locking lips with strange men. Something about the blonde spoke of countless STD's to Seamus. He scooted back, just a few more inches.
"Great. I'll tell ya all about it. And then I'll laugh at you," he added pointedly. "Withdrawals can't kill anybody."
Well, actually, that was a horrible, terrible lie. They can and did. And he vaguely recalled vowing to wait out the withdrawals before.
"But just in case, I'll write a note on my deathbed. And in my shaky handwriting, my last words will be to tell Kitty to claw you to death." He glared right back.
He wasn't at that point yet.
