Dubiously, he looked at the apartment door in front of him. A glance down to the smudged card he held confirmed it: he was here.

And by here, he meant his teacher's home. Truthfully, the lady terrified him. And, truthfully, he knew she loved every second of his frantic attempts to work himself to the bone in order to please her ridiculously high standards.

And, truthfully, he really didn't mind. Up until he got the phone call that she had some drafts she wanted him to review and correct for practice, and that he should come get them soon. By soon, she probably meant in a day or two.

He'd gotten there within the hour. And now he stood before the lair of the beast, and he was shaking in his little boots.

He hoped she wouldn't eat him. He wouldn't put it past her - she had the smile of a shark.

He knocked.

And prayed.

Normally, when Seth slept, his body was as good as being in a coma. Which really didn't help him much when he fell asleep while stoned, it just meant he stayed that way til he woke up again, a whole day later.

"Urrrr"

There was something pounding him in the ears. Something loud. It took him a few moments to realise his head wasn't in a vice and it was something knocking at the door.

It was probably just Viktor again wanting more sand off him. After having to wake up prematurely with a migraine Seth wasn't in the best of moods now.

"Viktor didn't I give you enough yeste-" He cut, the person at the door defiantly wasn't anyone he knew. Since he'd expected neighbours he'd answered the door looking a mess, he hair fray and only wearing pyjama bottoms.

Mutely, he looked at the person before him. This was most certainly not his newest boss.

"Ah...is Veronica Creed here?" he asked, politely, even as his eyes strayed to the head-feathers.

Oh god. Not another one.

"I have some papers to pick up," he attempted to elaborate, but his attention was most assuredly and repeatedly drawn to the other's godly features.

Awkward.

Seth blinked at the guy, he defiantly wasn't anyone who lived on this floor they all knew him by now and he knew them.

"Hmm?" Words still digging into his skull, he lent against the door frame, with his head in one hand. His head-wings stretching themselves of their own accord like some would their arms. He stared in the awkward silence, did this guy have cat ears?

"No...there nobody called that her-" he cut off into a yawn. "Wa-what is it?"

He watched in a strange sort of fascination as the wings stretched. Wings on his head. Like a bird. Like a sleepy, drowsy bird--he could have sworn there was an odd, chittering noise too, but that couldn't be coming from him.

He was reaching out before he knew it, giving the wing a solid bat. And then he paused, looked at the other.

Damn.

"Thanks, then," he said politely. "V'rong door, I suppose. Good day, sir."

He turned away, inspecting his smudged card, and decided that, using the shadows, he could indeed disappear through the floor if he wished.

Now was as good a time as ever.

Seth paid no notice, he'd kind of gotten used to people looking at his wings while he was inside the apartments. Not that a lot of of the people he "Traded" with seemed to care, most probably assumed it was just some freaky body mod, rather than some divine accessory stuck to his head.

The head wings fluttered. Vale had sent ache through Seths head from what would have been an otherwise painless tap.

"What doing?" he groaned.

Maybe he was getting his head back together, a sudden sense of urgency after noticing the cat ears. "Just who are you anyway?"

He paused, looking up from his scrutiny of the smudged card and trying not to show the embarrassment upon his face. He was careful not to give the head-wings much thought again.

"Valeriu. Valeriu Jaklovszky." He glanced once at the wings, and embarrassment did color his face. "Sorry about that. I get impulsive, sometimes."

A round, sleepy bird. That is what his head reminds me of. Hm. Bird.

Nevermind that! He hastily looked back down to the card, squinting through the smudge.

Oh, oh! Wrong door indeed. It was on the floor above this one. He started making for the stairs, tail trailing along behind him and still twitching at the thought of the bird.

Somehow that name didn't quite sink in. "Valli-valri...Jackel-jaklove..." He mentally repeated to little effect.

He had a tail as well? And it moved about like a real one, so he wasn't just one of those people who dressed up like cats.

A realisation came over him, if this cat guy was indeed a Godling then he knew where he lived now, the only person who ever came close was Quinn, and even then it was outside the building, he still hadn't narrowed it down completely. He had to think of something fast.

Having powers of memory loss finally proved extremely useful. He dashed back with new strength into his room and collected what sand he could from the floor in the corners gathered in. Just a little would work, just enough for him to be no longer sure where his apartment was.

Just one good throw to the head would do...

Unlike Tepin, Valeriu had never learned to recognize what that strange feeling around other Godlings meant (such as the fact that other Godlings caused it). Perhaps too much time spent in the jungle, perhaps too much time spent around Tepin (and Quinn, and Writ, and Ciro...).

However, he'd learned to compensate. No, most of the time he couldn't tell the difference between a Player and a gene-modder. So he was careful around both. Keep an eye on both. Be ready for both.

So it was when the man with the wings at the door flashed back into his room that Valeriu's head turned to keep him in sight, and it was when the man returned with a handful of unknown powder that he had his suspicions. And in that moment between suspicion and action, the other man threw the powder. It was a terrible throw, missed him completely (even looked like it hit the man himself), but he'd already moved out of the way and reacted.

Valeriu wasn't sure what it felt like to be on the receiving end of what he, with very little imagination, called his Claw. He knew it was heavy - when solid, shadows did have weight, and his balance was thrown off-kilter by the sudden mass added to his right side. He knew it was massive - hundreds and hundreds of shadows, pulling together in moments to wrap themselves around his hand and arm. Creating sharp, clawed fingers three times the size of his own, with a palm almost as wide as his own chest. He knew it was also scary - the shadows moved, sometimes, not at the hand, but where the last ones were more loosely attached mid-bicep. Moved and inched and crept over his shoulder if he left them on for too long, wrapping around his neck and towards his heart like they intended to cover his whole body.

Judging from the size of his Claw, the sharp angles and ghostly, smoky shadows trailing along like fire through the air, he'd make a fearsome monster if that ever occurred.

So when the fist of his changed hand (changed, covered? he was never quite sure once his skin had disappeared beneath the darkness) smashed into the other man's chest in a "warning shot", he wondered how much it hurt.

"V'hat," he asked darkly, card forgotten as he stepped towards his prey, "do you think you are doing?"

So Seth was never the strongest Godling around, he'd sort of been able to hold himself up in a fight right up until he got kick in the nuts of half electrocuted. As time and time again he'd proven being able to make people drowsy and forgetful didn't stop their punches being painful.

Worse so when you where so tired anyway that you ended up slipping over yourself in just pyjama bottoms and ended up half elbowing yourself in the face.

He was just to weak, far too weak to do anything now. Not against someone who could summon up huge claws round his arms, stupid other Godlings and their offensive powers. He could only fall back clutching his chest winded, his head wings curling back, ruffling up slightly. He panicked, maybe he could try and pass off like he wasn't a Godling, but how'd he explain the sand?

"Get lost freak", he tried to sound and threatening as he could while still being winded.

Seth did have his own naturally sleep aura that surrounded him, Vale had just touched him now via a punch, though he doubted suddenly feeling like a nap would be a good idea was going to ward him off. It flared up a little with what energy he had. now he could only hop Vale wouldn't notice.

He hesitated, for just a second. The man had attempted something, but...

Unfortunately for Seth, Valeriu's battle senses were cranked to high. Normal people couldn't make his hairs stand on end like that - that feeling of some godly magic being used. That sudden, vague sense of drowsiness. That, that was undeniable. Playing innocent wouldn't help him, now that Valeriu knew what he was. He could smell that change, could taste it in the air.

His lips pulled back in a feral excuse for a smile, even as his foot followed-up the gargantuan punch in a sharp round-house, slamming against the other.

"V'hat v'as that?" His claw swayed at his side, glaring down the other. "You are a Player. You tried to attack me first. Not very v'ise." The shadows flexed, and crawled higher. "Especially v'hen I am hungry."

Tt was hard to say if Seth impacting the wall had back them crack or not, there where already a lot of stains and marks in them. Either way, Seth defiantly felt it, a lot. He crumpled up on the floor, now barely able to pick himself up off the floor.

He had to do something and fast. But without any sand to directly use all he had was what he could naturally do by himself, which wasn't nearly as effective.

"I just don't want people like you showing up on my door step" More anger bubbling to the surface at the thought of his last beating at the hands of Quinn. At least he wasn't interested in getting any more revenge, this guy however seemed intent on kill him here and now.

Last thing for it, from his crouches position on the floor Seth lunged at Vales shins in a attempt to knock him over

He was embarrassed to say that the lunge took him by surprise. Arrogantly, he'd been practically boasting - stance wide, sure that he'd felled his opponent for good that time.

Looks like he still had a bit of fight left in him from the way he took out Vale at the knees. He was knocked back, cracking against the doorjamb and swearing he would be feeling that one next week as lances of pain ran up and down his spine.

The floor was not too comfortable either.

Growling, he kicked the other off with one little booty, looming back to his full height (albeit with a stagger to his step as he tried to shake off the attack).

"Too bad I v'ill be the last visitor you ever have, da?"

His tone seemed admonishing, chastising Seth like a schoolteacher for not letting sleeping cats lie. Valeriu had honestly had no clue about Seth's true origins. And to pick a fight with an older Player?

Well, that was just asking for it.

"Sorry about this." For what it was worth, in a better life, Valeriu would've just walked away. But today, even the shadows were calling out for blood. He'd been surviving on humans, just humans. Would a Godling be any different?

Everything inside him said yes, yes it would be. In a Very Good Way.

Do it, Tezcatlipoca's urging slipped into his mind, sure and confident that his chosen child hand wouldn't stray this time. Do it.

For a brief moment, Valeriu almost felt regret. And then humanity was gone - his wickedly clawed hand came up, paused at its height, and then slammed down like a circle of knives.
