So I, being a huge fan of Silent Hill and a devoted student of the occult, decided to look to the occult(ish) side of Silent Hill.
I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Silent Hill video games (or even the movie), but within the entire storyline there is a cult, and I find the concept of their "religion" to be quite fascinating.
To give you an idea of this "religion", I give you the following lyrics to the track "Sun" from the third installment of the Silent Hill game series:

In the beginning, people had nothing.
Their bodies ached, and their hearts held nothing but hatred.
They fought endlessly, but death never came.
They despaired, stuck in the eternal quagmire.

A man offered a serpent to the sun and prayed for salvation.
A woman offered a reed to the sun and asked for joy.
Feeling pity for the sadness that had over run the earth,
God was born from those two people.

God made time and divided it into day and night.
God outlined the road to salvation and gave people joy.
And God took endless time away from the people.

God created beings to lead people in obedience to Her.
The red God, Xuchilbara, the yellow God, Lobsel Vith,
many Gods and angels.
Finally God set out to create Paradise, where people
would be happy just by being there.

But then God's strength ran out, and she collapsed.
All the world's people grieved this unfortunate event,
yet God breathed Her last.
She returned to the dust, promising to come again.

So God hasn't been lost.
We must offer our prayers and not forget our faith.
We wait in hope for the day when the Path to Paradise
will be opened.

I don't know if this link will work but if you would like to hear the track, here is my attempt at a link:

It is heavily implied in texts found in the course of the game (that is, Silent Hill 3) that the religion of the cultists is vastly different from its original incarnation. It is said that when it fell into the hands of immigrants, it was deeply influenced by their own Christian beliefs. For example, the traditional representatives of the primal gods were given the names and descriptions of Christian angels (such as Metatron). Thus, shared characteristics begin to appear.

According to the game designers, the form of the god of the cultists, sometimes called the Creator of Paradise or the Lord of Serpents and Reeds, changes because the form it takes is projected by the minds of those who summon it. For example, when Claudia summoned it in Silent Hill 3, it took the form of Alessa (Claudia's best friend and her personal savior). However, the game designers have also implied that the god of the cultists does not actually exist, that it is simply a delusion brought to life by Silent Hill's power, like many of the other creatures in the game. Like everything else in the series, the truth about the religion of the cultists is open to interpretation.

The only thing we know for sure is that the town of Silent Hill possesses some sort of power. The land the town stands on had always been considered sacred by its former inhabitants. Although it seems that its power was not originally evil in nature, its power has been distorted by a number of tragic events that occurred in the town that was built upon that land (including an epidemic and executions at the prison). Furthermore, due to the large-scale shift to the Otherworld that occurred in the first game, the town has become a great catalyst for the manifestations of people's subconscious minds. It is a place that beckons to those who hold darkness in their hearts.

Also, I thought I'd mention something about this sigil, which appears many times in Silent Hill 3.

This sigil represents the deity known as the Halo of the Sun (which, of course, implies that, in its original incarnation, the god of the cultists in Silent Hill was a solar deity). According to texts found in the course of the game, the two outer circles represent charity and resurrection and the three inner circles represent present, past, and future. It said that it is usually drawn in red, occasionally in black or other colors, but blue reverses the meaning into a curse on the god and is therefore forbidden.

I pay close and careful attention as I'm playing the games, because it's that background information that I find most appealing about the Silent Hill series. Just about everything I mentioned in my previous post is touched on in the games. Also, Translated Memories contains a lot of useful information that elaborates on the universe in which the series takes place and includes commentary from the game's designers. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best Silent Hill resource site. 3nodding
