Eclipse prowled the halls of the Raenef castle. He could fee a vein popping in his forehead, but didn't really care. His lord was missing. Again. How many times could this happen, really? Eclipse was staring to feel that he couldn't travel without locking the young demon up, or posting a guard. With a wince, he found himself missing the blasted swordsmaster. Though a ditz, she had been able to protect his lord. Somewhat.

When Raenef saw the towering structure, he cheered with relief. That nice pony had helped him find his home, after all! Raenef just hoped that he hadn’t gotten lost himself. That would have made the young demon lord feel guilty. Maybe when Eclipse came back, they could go out and find the other pony, to properly thank him and help him find his way as well. Raenef was already making such plans when he happily skipped through the front doors, forgetting that he had gotten lost in the first place.

When Eclipse heard the large, heavy doors opening, he twitched and went to investigate. Relief flooded through him when he saw the familiar blond head of his lord, and was quickly swamped by irritation. “Lord Raenef,” Eclipse snapped, trying, and failing, to keep his voice and expression calm.

“Yes, Eclipse?” Raenef asked, oblivious to his tutor and servant’s irritation. He didn’t give Eclipse a chance to continue as he immediately remembered what he had wanted to talk to the older demon about. “Oh! Eclipse! There was this really nice pony that helped me when I went for a walk and I think he got lost when I came home. Could you find him? I want to help him find his way home.”

“Perhaps I’m mistaken, but didn’t I tell you to stay in the castle while I was gone?” Eclipse asked, smiling at the young demon lord. That was right, keep smiling, don’t let him see just how angry Eclipse really was…

Raenef blinked cutely at his tutor. He thought back and, after a moment, vaguely recalled such an order. “You did,” he agreed, looking down sheepishly, “but I got worried because you were gone for so long. I thought something happened to you.”

”So you chose to leave the safety of the castle and search for me?” Eclipse guessed, his irritation fading away as it always did when faced with his lord’s cuteness.

”Yeah,” he answered, nodding quickly. He was glad that Eclipse didn’t seem quite so frustrated with him anymore. Raenef didn’t like when Eclipse got annoyed at him. He was worried for his servant’s health. After all, it couldn’t be healthy for such a pale demon to turn so red in the face.

”And I assume you forgot that I am a powerful demon in my own right?” Eclipse continued guessing. He knew his lord well enough, after so long of serving him. One would think Eclipse would know better than to leave to report to the council and expect Raenef to be in the castle as he had left him, and it, when he returned. Such a thing had never happened before and Eclipse suspected that he would die of shock if it ever did occur.

”Well, I know that,” Raenef admitted, though he had forgotten in his concern for the older demon. “But what if you were outnumbered? What if you got caught in a trap? I thought I should help you.”

”Without knowing for sure if I actually needed aide,” Eclipse continued, crossing his arms. He had regained his calm, with his lord right in front of him. From what he could see, Raenef was unharmed, so this bit of foolishness could be forgiven, but should not be easily forgotten.

”You were gone too long,” Raenef replied, as though that needed to be said. After all, if Eclipse had returned on time then Raenef wouldn’t have had time to worry and wouldn’t have come to the wild conclusions that he had. So, clearly, Raenef was not in the wrong here.

Eclipse felt that vein in his forehead throb again. No matter how powerful his master was, moments like this reminded Eclipse that Raenef was still not a proper demon lord. His frustration didn’t last long, as he was already growing accustomed to Raenef’s air headedness. Instead, he focused on what his lord had said. “I returned shortly before midday, Lord Raenef. You were not here when I arrived.”
