So; Fringe is the new X-Files, this is what Fox wants you to believe. Is it TV history or will it be relegated to it?
After Alias and Lost from my perspective JJ Abrams just keeps getting better. Well; I thought Alias was okay and apparently Lost is some kind of heretofore unknown awesomesauce that I'm missing out on. Whatever. I actually like Fringe though because it has nifty s**t happening every week and Joshua Jackson is eight different kinds of win.
In news you might not know, season two is currently filming out here in Vancouver, BC which is of course where The X Files and Battlestar Galactica were shot. Now to just convince Whedon to move Dollhouse up here...

Season two is now upon us which brings with it a horrible battle which may destroy my entire family. See, it's on the same time as Supernatural, so now there's a big ******** problem. I, being a ******** caveman, do not have one of them there TV recording devices. Now I have to go to the dentist because I lunged for the remote and the missus let me know in no uncertain terms that yes we would indeed be watching Fringe.
It is a really good show though.

I severely doubt Fringe will get Mulder and Scully onto the show even for a brief cameo beyond being referenced in dialogue.

There were two references to the X-Files in the season two premiere. Looks to me like they want it bad. Nemoy in the season finale was ******** brilliant.

Marty Nozz the missus let me know in no uncertain terms that yes we would indeed be watching Fringe.. I dunno, I've watched a few episodes (including the super-hyped premiere with the end-twist you saw from a mile away) and it just felt like it was trying really hard to be X-Files. I mean, Joshua Jackson is cool, and the old guy is kinda hilarious, but it just didn't suck me in.
edit: Also, I thought even cavemen had VCRs with 'record' buttons? That's some old-school tech right there.

I need to watch Fringe to make a real assessment and form a real opinion. My initial reaction to the show was indifference; just not on my radar of things I want to watch, you know? I've had several people tell me "If you like The X-Files you'll LOVE Fringe!" and that makes me laugh because they have no idea why I love The X-Files. Here is a clue: It is not just because it slaps the paranormal on stuff. Not saying that is what Fringe does, but obviously the paranormal is the only reason anyone ever watches The X-Files - as obviously the show is nothing more than that.
EDIT:
I looked up The X-Files references and they're kinda contradictory yeah? Shows Mulder and Scully from the episode Dreamland I (a episode about exchanged identities) on some dead guy's TV but a senator went on to state that "the old X designation" and the Fringe division were both draining federal funds by investigating the unknown and unexplained. I think that's pretty obvious that they won't be getting Mulder and Scully cameos considering they are fictional characters on TV in the Fringe world. gonk

I watched it because Linda trashed the s**t out of it so I was curious and kept on with it for the Bishops. Joshua Jackson is from here and I've always liked his snarky stock role, so even if the show sucked as much as the pilot (which it absolutely does not), I'd have stuck around.

Red Scully I need to watch Fringe to make a real assessment and form a real opinion. My initial reaction to the show was indifference; just not on my radar of things I want to watch, you know? Here is a clue: It is not just because it slaps the paranormal on stuff. Not saying that is what Fringe does, but obviously the paranormal is the only reason anyone ever watches The X-Files - as obviously the show is nothing more than that. What I've been saying from the get go is "Fox is positioning Fringe to be the new X-Files," which is an important distinction. I'm sure many people have said something that dumb though. I dunno I tell people that if they were X Files fans they should give Fringe a chance, but it's by no means a lock.Quote: EDIT: I looked up The X-Files references and they're kinda contradictory yeah? Shows Mulder and Scully from the episode Dreamland I (a episode about exchanged identities) on some dead guy's TV but a senator went on to state that "the old X designation" and the Fringe division were both draining federal funds by investigating the unknown and unexplained. I think that's pretty obvious that they won't be getting Mulder and Scully cameos considering they are fictional characters on TV in the Fringe world. gonk Well, as mentioned over AIM the scene where Dreamland plays involves someone's identity being stolen in it, so epic win. As for them being both fictional and not... in the season one finale they reveal that Massive Dynamic has access to technology that allows them to travel between alternate realities/universes. To wit the final shot of the episode is a long pan out from an office to reveal that it's one of the WTC buildings, still standing. It's also suggested that the Peter Bishop from the show's "normal" universe died as a child and Walter crossed over to another one to bring that universe's Peter back to his. So, it's very possible that either there are quantum shennanigans surrounding the X division or the X division of the FBI is the Fringe Universe's alternate version of them and the WTC universe is home to the "real" Mulder and Scully.

OMG WELL DUUUUUHHHH THE REAL HOME OF MULDER AND SCULLY WOULD HAVE THE WORLD TRADE CENTER STILL STANDING 'CAUSE THE LONE GUNMEN TOTALLY STOPPED SUCH AN EVENT FROM HAPPENING. SRSLY.
Anywho: Fringe writers/creators have the WTC in their alternate universe as a attempt to latch onto viewer interest/emotion/some grander scheme/whatever. I personally doubt that Fringe will try to further tie its self to TXF universe in the future and I'm positive they are not even aware of the WTC "tie-in" - but for one millisecond my brain almost exploded. If more X-Files shiznat does pop up though, you let me know. Or really, I'll probably let you know as the Philedom and I will most likley be on that s**t like white on rice.
Personally, I think it'd be beyond epic if Fringe went for the really obscure X-Files reference; Frank Black. Millennium was not a spiff-off series like The Lone Gunmen. It was a darker, even more paranoid, companion series that also shared the same fictional space as TXF. It was a place where characters, ideas, and even events carried over - albeit subtlety - and usually to a more disturbing degree. Depending on what Fringe wants to tap into, if I were a writer I'd rumage around there.

Season two is really starting to heat up. I loved the latest episode; the MOTW seemed like it could have easily been based on Negative Man of the Doom Patrol, and we got some great Broyles moments that ended with a really spooky X-Files style conclusion. whee
