What say you we plan to get one started?

I must admit two things- Firstly, I dislike the hippy commune idea, as it is all many of the people I debate with can think of Communism, aside from the false communism of the soviets. It seems bland and frankly, not very productive- It is a means of survival, but I shoot for an industrial system with no economy rather than hippy commune.

Second thing- I am not particularly good at building things. I'm an artist, and I can paint and draw, but my problem solving skills involving mechanical applications or things like carpentry are quite lacking. I'm also terrible with plants. Not that I wouldn't try, but I always manage to kill them, or measure things badly.

But, if the global economy tanks AND we are unable to convince people to drop the only thing holding them from not only decent survival but equality, it may be our safest, or at least, most fun option. Who wants to be forced into poverty, anyway, especially when relative opulence is just a few hours of labor and a bit of trust away?

I would suggest somewhere temperate, where there is no harsh winter to kill crops. We can grow potatoes, agave, grapes and wheat to make into various alcohols, and also marijuana. Why not? It's not like we would be aspiring to be anything, and we could spend our days with food, shelter and parties.

Involving marijuana and alcohol would be a mistake, and otherwise I laugh at your idea.

We need to militarise and mobilise, not sit around on our asses.

I agree that we should first, act. But if the world will never hear us and will choose to starve to hold up their leaders, then at the very least those of us intelligent enough to leave them behind should do so.

No.

We are able to be the attention-grabbers that the regular people can't be.

We can be the ones who can do something shocking and alarming, in order to draw attention to something.

Sitting around, isolating ourselves as a small group from the outside world is a bad idea, unless we're securing ourselves from zombies. THen I totally agree, except for the alcohol and drugs...

If people become so stupid that they will starve before they consider an alternative economic system, will they really be much better than zombies?

By that point, I'm ready to say ******** it, I'm living in the woods with a whole bunch of vodka and pot.

Here's what I think,

Yes yes yes. Words out of my mouth.
But that's only my opinion.

Do I sense discrimination against hippies? You should be ashamed.

Especially considering a few pages back you were DEFENDING hippies.

All in all. No. No Commune. I'd rather be dead before I give up on everyone else and saving myself.

I actually like the idea of a commune. Not that I'd be able to join one for another 3 years or so, but heck, it might take that long to plan one.
