Dahlia

User Image
Encounter Information
  • She can appear in any room belonging to the PW universe

Encounter Behavior: Fast-moving, appears to levitate. Her hair flares up before each attack.
  • Flicker: Dahlia can instantly teleport around her environment. She can also target a victim with this, forcing them to make an ability check; if the victim fails, they cannot defend against Dahlia's next attack.
  • Forced Possession: Initially attacks all abilities. When facing a group, Dahlia can temporarily take control of a sensitive victim. The victim makes attacks against others as a normal Ghost; Dahlia cannot be seen or targeted while this is active. A successful Willpower feat by the victim or an ally ends this effect.
  • Parasol: Attacks one ability. A powerful direct attack that shoves a victim back a good distance, often into other hazards.
  • Poison Water: Dahlia's presence causes nearby bodies of unblessed water to become noxious. Poisoned water will instantly harm any victim that touches it; a successful Willpower check can stave off this damage.
  • Blazing Butterflies: Any successful ability check to defend. Dahlia opens her parasol forcefully, expelling a flurry of flaming butterflies that strikes all victims in front of her. Failure to defend results in a victim being knocked down, temporarily unable to act.

Description: It sounds like ropes tightening and a female voice laughing gently. A woman appears from the darkness of the rafters, appearing to float in the air... but she is actually hanging by her neck, her posture stilted and unnatural even as she turns her gaze to look at the mortal intruders. Her long red hair is perfect, swaying gently in an unfelt breeze as she twirls a parasol in her hands. "Have you come to play dear?"

When she moves around, she is actually swinging about from the rope that hangs her. Sometimes she drags along the ground, pulled about by some eldritch force. As she flickers in and out, she whispers, "You can't win."

When defeated, her form instantly crumples to the ground before she is pulled up into the darkness. "Beaten again..."
Materials:
  • Items (puzzle objects or recovery items the Ghost may possess)
  • Mementos (diaries, photographs, other things associated with the Ghost's story, descriptions below)

Story: Cast aside by an unloving family, she carved a path of death and deceit. After being executed for her crimes, she tried to take revenge from beyond the grave. Her pain and anguish make her particularly influential in the Manor of Sleep.
Memento Descriptions
  • Red Butterfly Diary: A diary with a scarlet red cover, and the light imprint of a butterfly.
  • Broken Butterfly Diary: A diary with a faded red cover, and the scratched-out image of a butterfly.

Developer's Notes: Dahlia could be very important in the PW/AA section of Tormented Turnabout, and is a candidate for one of the final boss encounters.

Reika Kuze, the Tattooed Priestess
Encounter Information

User Image
  • Hearth Room
  • Kimono Room
  • Garden Corridor
  • Bell Corridor
  • When the blue candle runs out, she can show up pretty much everywhere.
  • The Rift, Endgame - This is the only place you can actually fight her

Encounter Behavior: Reika locks on to the first victim she sees and stalks them relentlessly, passing through or over any obstacles.
  • Death Grip: Characters cannot defend against this attack. Attacks all abilities at once. Suspends a victim by the neck, strangling them and then violently throwing them to the ground. If facing a group, Reika may make continuous attacks on the victim instead of throwing them down.
  • Tattooed Curse: Only used during player characters' first dream sequences. The victim is initiated with the Tattooed Curse, and instantly expires. While cursed, the victim suffers a variety of symptoms: hallucinations, hauntings, obsessive behavior (e.g. singing shrine maiden songs), sleepiness, recurring nightmares involving the Manor of Sleep, et cetera. The victim is marked by a black tattoo of snakes and holly that grows to cover their entire body as they continue to explore the Manor.

Final Encounter Behavior: Reika is completely consumed by the darkness of the Rift, subjecting victims to the pain and torment of countless souls.
  • The Unleashing: Targets one ability. Any successful ability check prevents initial damage. Successful checks for all three abilities ends this effect. Reika briefly summons the full force of the Rift into the vicinity, enveloping multiple victims in darkness. While inside the Rift, victims will be subjected to maddening replays of the painful moments of their lives, and others. Victims do not take damage while inside the Rift, but will move slowly and be highly vulnerable to Reika's attacks; successful checks for all three abilities will let them escape the Rift (each ability check is run separately; an individual ability check is not needed once it has succeeded). When all victims have escaped the Rift, it vanishes from the area.
  • Rift Walker: Targets all abilities. Cannot defend against this attack. Inside the Rift, Reika targets a victim that is still caught in the Unleashing. She lumbers very slowly towards the victim; once she catches up to them, she enters their psyche directly and pierces their soul with pain and sorrow that narrowly escapes description. Once a victim has been hit by this attack, they leave the Rift.
  • Rivening: Reika exists both within and outside of the Rift, and can take separate actions for each space.
  • The Unfeeling: Targets one ability. One successful ability check defends. Outside the Rift, Reika can pass through a victim, shocking their minds with an implosion of pain and longing. The victim takes damage, and their perception of reality is distorted; blinded by fear, rage, or madness, the Unfeeling victim becomes a temporary puppet for Reika.
  • To The Pain: Two successful ability checks defends. Can only be used by an Unfeeling victim. The Unfeeling victim lashes out against a fellow victim, immobilizing them and dragging them toward the Unleashing. If this attack is defended successfully, the Unfeeling victim returns to normal.
  • Embodiment of the Rift: Targets one ability continuously. This attack cannot be defended. Outside of the Unleashing, Reika is accompanied by a ghoulish shade that envelops her form. Any victim that stays too close to Reika will continue to take damage as the ghoulish shade lashes out at them, a multitude of disembodied faces and arms tearing and pulling at the victim.

Description: Reika appears unnaturally tall, with long, flowing black hair that casts an ominous shadow over her eyes. She is topless and wears only a stained black hakama. Her skin appears mottled; upon closer inspection, she is covered with a thick and intricate tattoo of red and indigo ink. The designs bear imagery of snakes and holly, finely detailed and rendered, seeming to pulse with death and creeping slowly across her skin, leaving impenetrable scars. It is almost hypnotic to behold, but if you're close enough to see this, you are already doomed...

In the Final Encounter, Reika is enveloped by a ghoulish shade, a grotesque skull with a flowing cloak of dark clouds etched with the writhing faces of the tormented. Reika seems motionless while within the shade, floating about as though carried along in some invisible claw.

Materials:

Story:She's the main antagonist in this story. [Major Spoiler] The tattoos of the Snake and holly entered her eyes when she witnessed the one she loved killed before her eyes.

...most of what else could be said is a big spoiler. not that the white text wasn't a spoiler.

Memento Descriptions
  • Mirror Shard 1: "I never wanted to leave you... I wanted to be with you... I'm here. I'll always be here..." Location: Spirit Tree Garden
  • Mirror Shard 2: "I want to see you again. I know I can't see you again... but still, if I could just see you once more... once more... just one more time..." Location: Hanging Prison
  • Mirror Shard 3: "I will shatter my memories... these shards, these pieces of me..." Location: Blind Room
  • Mirror Shard 4: "I feel like you've been in my dreams for so long... Over and over... but I don't want this dream any more..." Location: Wooden Figure Room
  • Mirror Shard 5: "I can feel the thoughts of so many people being etched into me... So many voices, so much pain... Please don't forget me. This is my voice, my memory, my pain..." Location: Projector Room

Developer's Notes: Reika is the final encounter upon which the existence of the Manor of Sleep, and the entire scenario, is pinned.

Also, Reika only does the choking attack in the normal manor, when the blue candle runs out, I do believe its a one hit kill. She can stalk you wherever there as well.

Kyouka Kuze The Brushing Woman

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Kimono Room
  • Preserve Room
  • Hearth Room

Encounter Behavior: Kyouka often hides behind walls and furniture before pouncing on her victims.
  • Hair Bolt: Targets Senses. With a scream that is painful to the ears, Kyouka rips out her hair and throws it like a spear into the eyes of a single victim. This attack will blind the victim regardless of their defenses.
  • Slinking: While this ability is active, Kyouka can move about the room undetected. Victims are unable to defend against her next attack, unless they make a successful Senses check or perform a Senses feat.
  • Bloody Kiss: Nerves defends; targets Willpower with damage over time. Kyouka suddenly swoops in on a victim, catching them in her arms and hair. While the initial attack does no damage, failure to defend results in the victim becoming immobilized, unable to act as she drains their Willpower. Any successful ability check to repel Kyouka will stop this effect.

Description: A beautiful woman with long black hair. She appears to have a beautiful face, but as you approach you can see it is marred with blood constantly flowing from her mouth and eyes.

When fighting her, you can often hear her crying, "You said you would come back!"

When defeated, she staggers back and seems to melt, her visage becoming hideous and misshapen as the blood continues to stream from her face and into her hair. Eventually she pools into a black mass that slowly evaporates, leaving a sour, nauseating stench.

Materials:
  • Purple Diary 1
  • Purple Diary 2
  • Purple Diary 3
  • Purple Diary 4
  • Echo Stone Earring
  • Twilight Stone
  • Dianthus Key
  • Holly Key

Story: She was the only daughter of Yashuu Kuze, and her only purpose was to produce female heirs; many men were brought to her for this purpose. Akito Kashiwagi, a folklorist, was one such man. Kyouka fell in love with Akito and bore his child, but Akito eventually disappeared. To this day, she has no idea where he went.
Yashuu murdered Akito and hid his body.[/End Spoiler]

Kyouka bore Akito's son, but had him snuck out of the Manor, as any male child past the age of 4 would have been tossed into the well and left to die. She gave him one of her earrings in the hopes that Akito would recognize it, and both of them would come back for her. She still waits for him, and throws herself at unlucky explorers who may bear a resemblance to Akito, berating them for not coming back to her.

Memento Descriptions
  • Purple Diary 1: How many days has it been?
How many months? How many years?

Many outsiders have been brought here. But none of them are like him. He said my hair was beautiful, but no matter how much I arrange it, he'll probably never know how I feel. All I can do is comb my hair and wait for him. That way when he comes back with his camera, he'll take my picture again.

  • Purple Diary 2: His parting gift was a forbidden child. The child had handsome features just like he did. If he stays in this place, they'll cast him away once he turns four. I have to find a way to sneak him into the village below before then. If I give him the earring his father gave me, I'm sure someday he will be able to come back.

He'll be able to hear my voice. I may even be able to see his father again if he finds this earring. I'll name the child "Kaname" to symbolize our connection. I know this child will come back. With his father.

  • Purple Diary 3: Akito hasn't come back. Everyone disappeared from the manor, leaving me behind.

I'm always the one who is left here, combing my hair impatiently.
No matter how much I comb my hair, no matter how much I concentrate my feelings, he never returns. Could it be that the earring, the child, neither of them will convey my love to him?

  • Purple Diary 4: The manor has been closed off due to the Unleashing, yet I am not allowed to go outside. I wonder if I'm destined to remain in solitude forever.

I can already only remember his face vaguely. That picture he left, that last earring that he left, I left them all back in the manor. It's all so hazy now, it seems like it was all just a dream. I at least wanted him to just see my hair.

  • Echo Stone Earring: A fine polished stone that can be worn as an earring. It seems to vibrate slightly, emitting a barely audible hum...

Developer's Notes:
The only diary you actually get from Kyoka in battle is 3. The other ones are found. She's mostly giving of keys and puzzle pieces.

Tengai Narumi, the Master Builder Shrine Carpenter: Hidden Face Man

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Hour 0 - Stairs to Kyoka Kuze's Room
  • Garden Corridor
  • Great Hall

Encounter Behavior: Tengai is extremely slow in the open, but can be deadly if he catches a victim off-guard.
  • Material Motion: At one with the structures of the Manor, Tengai can disappear into the architecture at will, moving undetected. He can launch attacks instantly from inside walls.
  • Hatchet: Targets all abilities or one ability. Tengai raises his bloody hatchet and brings it down upon a victim with astounding force, cleaving through their soul and through the woodwork of the Manor. Failure to defend results in the victim collapsing, temporarily unable to act; any successful ability check by the victim will wake them from this stupor. Successful defense against this attack results in the victim being knocked back with significant force; a second defense must be made to avoid damage from the impact.
  • Ghostly Guild: Tengai can summon the spirits of murdered carpenters who have been entombed within the structures of the Manor, their flailing arms attempting to seize anyone close by. Any successful ability check prevents or stops immobilization.
  • The Last Sacrifice: Separate checks for each ability must be made; at least 2 successful checks is a successful defense. Tengai automatically uses this attack when he is defeated. As he collapses to the floor, his hatchet screams with the anguish of countless murders; a victim caught by this parting strike instantly expires.

Description: Tengai has a particularly imposing appearance, with his blood-stained robes and roughly-wrapped hands. His entire head is haphazardly encased in a wicker-and-burlap mask that rattles with every breath of his deep and rasping voice. Individual floorboards and pieces of woodwork seem to quiver and groan in his presence as he staggers and stumbles about in the open.
"It must not be opened."
"That Priestess... the shrine must be sealed."
"You cannot escape!"
"Now you will die."
"More blood... More sacrifices..."

Materials:
  • Items (puzzle objects or recovery items the Ghost may possess)
  • Mementos (diaries, photographs, other things associated with the Ghost's story, descriptions below)

Story: A young shrine carpenter chosen to become Master Builder and entrusted with the secrets of mystic construction methods. Faced with the Unleashing, he constructed multiple shrines in an attempt to seal off the Rift. Unable to stop the Rift, he murdered his workers and entombed their bodies in the Sacrificial Pillars, then finally took his own life.

Memento Descriptions
  • Other than File Photos, the Master Builder has no personal effects or diaries.
  • In the sacrificial pillar room, you do find a Map with a mark *photo needs to go here*
  • He drops the Simulacrum mask in the first fight with Miku/Dahlia's storyline.
  • He also gives Miku/Dahlia storyline the ability of Sacred Stone

Developer's Notes:
Spirit list entry:
  • 11. Tengai Narumi - A Master Builder, he is pursuing the Sacrificial Pillar carpenters.
  • 34. Turned Back Man - The last Master Builder. He became a Sacrificial Pillar, but now he kills Carpenters.
  • 79. Disappearing Man - The Master Builder going to report on roof, which needs many Sacrificial Pillars.
  • 80. Blind Room Man - The Master Builder going to report on the Manor and the Sacrificial Pillars.
  • 84. Man at the Spirit Tree - The Master Builder who knows it is the code and his duty, but resents having to murder.
  • 104. Disappearing Man - The Master Builder who after doing his part, heads toward where the last Pillar should be.
  • 105. Determined Man - The Master Builder who fulfilled all his duties and so gives his life as the last pillar.
  • 183. Hidden Face Man - The Master Builder. He sacrificed all the carpenters, including himself.

Yashuu Kuze, the Ceremony Matron Kuze Family Head

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Library
  • Tattoo Altar
  • Room with Blind
  • Engraving Shrine
  • Abyss

Encounter Behavior: Yashuu is a fairly straightforward encounter, launching attacks from her position with little movement on her part.
  • Cold Reach: Targets Nerves. The hands surrounding Yashuu lash out at a single victim. This attack can be used at long range.
  • Writhing Grasp: Targets Willpower. Yashuu summons ghostly hands to burst forth from the ground, targeting all victims engaged in the encounter. Failure to defend results in a victim being immobilized, taking damage the next time Yashuu attacks, regardless of the target; the victim can make a successful ability check to free themselves.

Description: An older woman, her headdress and long robes mark her as a distinguished individual, most probably a powerful spiritualist—which explains the multitude of ghostly disembodied arms surrounding her, seeming to emerge from a pulsing darkness that hangs about her form. Her body doesn't seem to move at all, even as she speaks.

"How dare you bring a man into the Kuze shrine."

When defeated, the hands writhe and claw at her form, still unmoving. Her limbs and head are twisted at unnatural angles as she is pulled back into the nothingness and her form fades from sight.

Materials:
  • Camera Obscura - In an area where you first see Yashuu Kuze, there is a camera obscura hidden in a box of clothes for the 'third' storyline of the manor that gets tied in. (Essentially the OC storyline replacing the Crimson Butterfly storyline in this case)
  • Calico Notebook 1
  • Calico Notebook 2

Story: She experienced the pain of the Holly when Reika awakened, but was able to escape and made preparations to close the rift. [Major Spoiler]She killed Reika's lover before her eyes; the shock caused the Holly and Snake tattoo to enter Reika's eyes, beginning the Unleashing of the Rift. She now wanders the Manor, tainted by the Rift even as she tries to stop the Unleashing after it has already happened.
Memento Descriptions
  • Calico Notebook 1: One of the handmaidens led a man who came to offer his pain into the Kuze Shrine and so tattoos have entered the priestess' eyes and the doors to the Chamber of Thorns have opened. We should never have let a man enter the shrine. No matter who it was, we should never have engraved the Priestess' empty eyes. Now that I have felt the pain of the holly as well, even I am not allowed outside.

Before the rift that has spilled forth from the Kuze Shrine spreads any further, we must find a way to shut the shrine within the Rift. We must summon shrine carpenters and seal the Kuze Shrine. Many sacrificial pillars will be required. We should have cast that man away. Just as we did that male scholar who wandered here...

  • Calico Notebook 2: The pain etched into the Priestess must have been very deep. The spread of the Rift continues. We may not be able to stop it even with the Shrine of Sleep. My body has been halfway engulfed by the Rift and misery surrounds me. It's not clear how many days have passed since the Unleashing. The only ones left are the young handmaidens. I feel pity in doing so, but I will instruct Hisame to conduct the final impalement. We must not allow the Rift to spread.

Now that I recall, there was an Echo Stone Earring in that man's ear. He could have been Kyouka's forbidden child. Perhaps he came back from the village down below? If so, then he would be Amane's older brother. How sorrowful...

Developer's Notes:None of the items related to her are actually found on her person. You get nothing but points for defeating her.

The Engraved Men Shrine Carpenters
Shigeomi, Nirei, Tatsumi, and Inui

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Stairs Hallway 1F
  • Foyer
  • Hall with Tatami
  • Futon Room 2F
  • Random Encounter after a certain hour is passed

Encounter Behavior: Devoted to the Master Builder and their sacred work maintaining the Kuze Shrine, they move quickly and attack relentlessly.
  • Hatchet: Targets one ability. The Engraved Man cleaves through a victim's soul.
  • Chase: Nerves defends. The Engraved Man locks onto a single victim and runs straight at them with his hatchet raised. If he catches up to them he instantly uses his Hatchet attack.
  • Carpenter Call: The Engraved Man summons a Man In White.
  • More Sacrifices: Targets all abilities. Can only be used on an immobilized victim. The Engraved Man must pause for a moment to recite a sacred prayer and prepare his hatchet before he begins to hack violently at the victim. Once he starts, he does not stop until the victim expires or escapes. The victim can attempt to escape; others may try to help them or distract the Engraved Man.

Description: The Engraved Men dress in white robes, with tall court hats signifying their position. Unlike other ghosts, they emit little to no "light" and resemble shadows. The individual details of their faces are lost in what appear to be ropey scar tissue that covers their skin; upon closer inspection, it is revealed to be the exquisitely detailed Snake & Holly Tattoo.
"For the Kuze Shrine!"
"Here you will stay... until you rot."

The Engraved Men simply fade from existence when defeated.

Materials:
  • Items (puzzle objects or recovery items the Ghost may possess)
  • Moriya Tomes 1, 2, 3, 4

Story: Members of the Moriya family, they were permanently contracted to maintain the Kuze Shrine. They assisted the Master Builder in massacring the other Shrine Carpenters and constructing the Sacrificial Pillars, before taking their own lives to form a seal over the Shrine Courtyard.
Memento Descriptions
  • Moriya Tome 1 - Top shrine carpenters have been gathered together to seal the Kuze Shrine into the depths of (a) great cavern so that not even a single ray of light can enter into the darkness. Then, we must erect a Shrine of the Rift in front of the great cavern using Spirit Trees as the core pillars, and with Sacrificial Pillars arranged so that the darkness is purified and the rift cannot leak into the world.
  • Moriya Tome 2 - When building or repairing the Kuze Shrine and the Last Passage, all the carpenters of the Moriya family except for their leader must be prepared to stay behind, never to return.

Excluding one who exceeds in their crafts, all the carpenters must fulfil their duty to protect the secrets of the shrine by being buried as the sacrificial pillars lining it.

The remaining Moriya carpenter must become the Master Builder and ensure that the craft is carried on to the next generation.
  • Moriya Tome 3 - After the Unleashing happened, the priestess who had wandered loose from the Chamber of Thorns roamed about the manor as if in a dream.

Those passages the priestess entered were engulfed by the Rift and fell into darkness.

The Rift Shrine is a hidden shrine that ensures that the priestess wanders forever and never escapes, and the Rift does not spill forth.
  • Moriya Tome 4 - The Rift Shrine makes the priestess wander for eternity and stakes must be used to impale her limbs while praying for her peaceful rest.

When the priestess is restless, it is necessary to build on to the Shrine Of Sleep and pray for her to slumber.

The Shrine Of Sleep is sealed within a dream to prevent the priestess from escaping and the spread of the Rift.

To keep the Rift from spreading, we must ensure that she stays staked down and pray for her eternal sleep.

The Crawling Woman
Kiriko Asanuma

User Image

Encounter Information
  • Under the Floor
  • Futon Room
  • (Non-hostile) Any enclosed space characters may find themselves in.

Encounter Behavior: She crawls on all fours faster than normal people walk. She almost never ventures out into the open, staying in small, enclosed spaces.
  • The Frightening: Targets Senses. The Crawling Woman grabs a hold of her victim, screaming into their face with her ghastly visage.
  • Let Me Out: Hiding in an enclosed space, the Crawling Woman calls out for someone to let her out. Her voice may sound like a normal person asking for help, thus laying the perfect trap. A Senses feat will detect something wrong in her voice.

Description: She has ragged hair and clothing, with sunken eyes and dirty skin. A depressing creature to look at, yet terrifying to behold. Her body twists and bends unnaturally as she clambers about surfaces, her head spinning in either direction as she looks for an escape from her circumstances.
"It's so dark... let me out!"
"Please let me out!"

When defeated, she whimpers and cowers, crawling backwards into the darkness as her form dissipates.

Sometimes she can be found hiding in secluded places around the Manor, sometimes right next to a character who has elected to hide in her spot! In these instances, she is curled up into a ball and is largely unresponsive to interactions and conversation.

Materials:
  • The Crawling Woman
  • Hospital Casefile: Asanuma, Kiriko

Story: Known in life as Kiriko Asanuma, her entire family was murdered in a single night by burglars; she escaped death by hiding in a dark closet. Later admitted to the hospital, she was taken by the Tattooed Curse. Her appearances in the living world have inspired the legend of the Crawling Woman.

Men In White Shrine Carpenters

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Any place, any time

Encounter Behavior: The Men In White stumble about clumsily, looking for a way to escape death. They naturally move towards victims, as though seeking anything bearing the light of life they so covet.
  • Shared Pain: Willpower or Nerves defends. The Man In White will suddenly reach out and cling to a victim, immobilizing them. Multiple Men In White may cling to a single victim. A successful Willpower or Nerves check will repel one Man In White.

Description: Their true names and faces lost to the Rift, they are shambling, rotten, misshapen corpses hewn apart by the hatchets of their superiors. They grip themselves in pain and moan incoherently. When defeated, they dissolve into black soot.

Materials:
  • Items (puzzle objects or recovery items the Ghost may possess)
  • Mementos (diaries, photographs, other things associated with the Ghost's story, descriptions below)

The Engravers

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Wooden Figure room
  • Book Store room
  • Engraving Shrine (2)
  • Flickering Hallway
  • Barred Hallway
  • Can be a random encounter

Encounter Behavior: Fairly straightforward, they lumber ominously towards victims.
  • Pins and Needles: Targets Nerves. Grabbing a hold of a victim, the Engraver's pierced arms channel the Pain of the Holly into the victim's psyche.
  • Ethereal: The Engraver can temporarily become invisible; the effect breaks if they attack. A Senses check will alert a victim to the invisible Engraver's general direction.

Description: These women are topless and wear only blood-soaked hakama. Their skin is mottled and blackened by ink and blood. Their eyes have been gouged out and covered with thin wrappings, and their forearms either cut off entirely or pierced through with numerous stakes and needles. When defeated, they fall to their knees and slowly vanish.

Materials:
  • Engravers carry nothing

Story: The Engravers were female tattoo artists hired by the Kuze Shrine to engrave the Snake and Holly Tattoo into the skin of the Tattooed Priestess. Their duties included creating the Ink of the Soul by collecting blood, and numerous rituals where they could feel and see the pain of the Tattooed Priestess. When their duties were fulfilled, their arms were cut off.

Stroller Grandma

User Image
Encounter Information
  • 1F Foyer
  • Random Ghost Encounter

Encounter Behavior: One of the more dangerous encounters in the game, Stroller Grandma charges relentlessly in long, straight paths.
  • Perambulate: Targets one ability. Any ability check defends. Stroller Grandma moves at high speed in a crooked linear path. Any victims caught in her charge take damage and are knocked aside. If a victim is pushed up against a wall, Stroller Grandma may elect to Perforate them.
  • Perforate: Targets one ability. Victims cannot defend against this attack. Can only be used on victims that have been pinned against the wall by Perambulate. Stroller Grandma becomes intangible as she passes through the victim and into the wall beyond.
  • Seniority: Stroller Grandma cannot be stopped or distracted by any means. Any feats or exorcism attempts will only damage her, but do not push her away from victims or halt her attacks.

Description: An ominous black perambulator that somehow resembles a cloth-draped hearse; pushing it is an old woman wrapped in black shrouds, hunched over but with determined poise. As she approaches, she picks up speed and rears her head, revealing a warped and disfigured face. She screams with jaws that open unnaturally wide. The sound of crying infants threatens to drown out your thoughts.

"Come here...!"

When defeated, she continues charging, but harmlessly dissipates into the air.
Materials:

Hisame Kuze

User Image
Encounter Information
  • Doll Altar Rooms (Hisame)
  • Shrine - Abyss

Encounter Behavior: The Pacifiers are dogged, but predictable, circling victims and attempting to ambush them from the side or behind, often working in tandem with each other.
  • Impalement: Targets Willpower. The Pacifier tries to drive a stone stake through the body of a victim.
  • Handmaiden's Song: Senses defends. The Pacifier sings the Handmaiden's Song, which resonates in victims of the Tattooed Curse and dulls their grip on reality. Failure to defend results in the victim becoming immobilized until they make another successful Senses check; allies may also break this affect with a successful Senses check.
  • The Tearing: Targets all abilities. Willpower and Nerves defend. The Pacifier grips the victim and tries to tear their skin off. A successful Willpower check prevents damage; a successful Nerves check prevents immobilization; success on both checks leaves the Victim unaffected.
  • Final Impalement: Instant Expiration. Can only be used on victims immobilized by other Pacifiers using The Tearing. The Pacifier using this attack recites a prayer and raises her hammer to drive a cold stake through the victim's body.

Description: She wears a red and white priestess outfit. She carries a stake and a mallet. She has long waist length hair.
"You can't get away...I won't let you!"

Materials:
  • Hammering Girls File Photo (Musty Film) (Hour 3, Night 5)
  • Red Diary 1
  • Red Diary 2

Story: The Pacifiers were handmaidens representing the four cardinal directions, charged with taking care of the Tattooed Priestess and carrying out various rituals that would help ensure the success of her duties; this included impaling her with stakes or tearing off her skin in order to contain the pain engraved in the tattoos.

Hisame was the most well trusted of these pacifiers, as the Kuze Family mistress entrusts her with the duty of impaling the other priestesses before impaling herself. She was also the most dutiful, and in charge of impaling Amane at the bottom of the abyss. She was also the last to die in the manor at the time of the unleashing.

Memento Descriptions
  • Red Diary 1
Amane led a man into the Kuze Shrine.
The man woke the Priestess from her dream.
The Kuze code must be followed.
She must be punished by impalement.
She must not be let go.
  • Red Diary 2

The head of the family died within the Rift.

Amane has been impaled at the bottom of the abyss.
Same with Shigure and Minamo
Everyone's been impaled.

I'm the only one left in the manor...
because I was the last chosen.

With everyone gone, the manor is so open and dark, just like a dream...
It feels so nice.

I'm going to sleep now.
Forever and ever...
