It is said in the forests of mana there dwell creatures most unusual. Absorbing the energy from the trees many creatures gain unnatural powers and longevity. Amongst them was a moth, who by drinking mana enriched nectar gained the remarkable power to shift forms. This moth gained a humanoid shape and discovered the villages of the mortal beings known as humans. He also developed a talent for music and the flute which he played for money in the streets.

Journeying in this strange new world the moth took the name of Ga (moth). One day he happened upon a teahouse and spied a geisha who was as unique as he, for she was a butterfly. Ga was instantly entranced by the butterfly spirit and showered her in money and praise and she lead him on, only to crush his hopes. For a day came when his money ran out and when the geisha learnt of this she was infuriated. She confronted the now useless bug who could no longer tip her with his meager savings as a floutist and cursed him, removing his wings and trapping him in his human form.

He now lives by a lake, serving as a ferryman with his little boat, hiding his long feelers under a straw hat, trying to forget. Little does Ga realise the power he possesses, that remains sealed away untill the curse is lifted, and littles does he realise that there is always a chance that he could get his revenge.

The water was pristine that morning. The sky was clear, and nothing disturbed it's surface, not even the boat.
He stared out at it listlessly, the boy just sat there, his wide straw hat obscuring his face though hinting at his glossy curly brown hair and the tips of his feelers. If one wasnt paying attention, they would never know he was a moth at all. He had the most sad look on his face as he watched the gentle ripple on the water's surface when a plum blossom from one of the trees flitted down and just barely kissed the water's surface. He had seen moths land in water and float like that, in lazy circles, not aware of their fate. They struggled and perished, and he understood what it was like to feel so helpless.

To Ga he was no moth, he wasnt human either, he was trapped somewhere in between and there was no chance to find peace for him. His only option was to continue making a meager living shuttling people across the lake and hoping for his life to take a better turn. He was a good soul, but he had been broken and could not see how he could shape his own path. Soft flute notes flitted across the water like dragonflies. The moth played, if only to occupy himself. It was a slow day, he might not get anyone needing a trip across the lake at all.

The song was terribly somber and fit his mood too well. What else could he play though, with such a heavy heart?

User Image "Oh! I've lost it again! The only problem is..."

Leya walked down the river. Oh how beautiful it was. She was a strange girl - perhaps one of the strangest around. She had once been taken to be a sex slave. Many men had enjoyed her company, and several had tried to buy her, but she was one whom her master had no desire to sell. And she was quite happy not being sold. After all, she was treated well in the house she was kept in, and she didn't wish for that to change. She wasn't necessarily happy there - for who could be happy when they were being sold for their body - but she made the best of it. She kept the house happy, laughing, and playful. When on break, the girls would play games - usually led by Leya herself. But she was no longer with the house. She had been released because she'd saved up enough money from tips to buy her own freedom. And now she was quite lost, quite confused, and quite happy to be both.

As she heard a flute's music up ahead she made her way towards it. Perhaps there was a person who could help her. Although she wasn't really sure what she needed help with...But still, perhaps finding someone would be better than finding no one. Yes, she decided it would be. She giggled softly to herself. She walked along the water's edge until she spotted a man ahead of her. he was the one with the flute. She paused for a moment, tilting her head, her shaggy hair falling into her eyes for a moment until she quickly brushed it aside, revealing eyes the brown of chesnut wood. Or perhaps a chesnut horse. Well, whichever worked. She smiled, and her smile held with it the warmth of the sunshine and the lightness of the air. She finally continued to approach the man.

"Hi there!" she said, waving happily at him. "Could you..." She paused as she realized something. His song...his beautiful song....it was so sad. She tilted her head. "Why are you sad?" she asked, walking closer to him. Ok, so perhaps normal people wouldn't just walk up to a stranger and ask why they were sad, but Leya wasn't your normal girl. She had no idea that you weren't supposed to just approach strangers and ask questions. How could anyone who had been living in a sex house her whole life know that?

Ga was but an insect, knowing mating as a tool to produce eggs, and nothing to be profited off of, unless one counted his cousins, the silkmoths, who's young lost their cocoons in the name of money. At any rate, something like a brothel was far beyond the moth's grasp. He only knew of love in the purest, most simplistic sense.
His song, was quite mournful, intense, absolutely dripping with the pain he felt in his shattered heart, and his tattered soul. He was so involved in what he played, that he took no heed of the young woman as she approached him by the lake. He didnt even acknowledge her untill that cheerful voice rung out.

It stung, for it reminded him of the cheerful butterfly that had left him so utterly destitute. He peered out from the wide brim of his hat, reminiscent of a travelling monk's. The girl looked nice enough, he could tell already that she wasnt a fighter, but that didnt been she wasnt dangerous. To Ga, females in general were troublesome.

His voice, was so soft, it may as well have been a whisper, and it emerged just as he pulled his lips away from his flute as if it was just a part of his sad song.

"I just am.." He examined her clothing, it was of decent quality. Maybe she had money.. "do you need a ride across the lake?" he said, oh-so softly.

Leya smiled at him sweetly, taking in everything about him, yet not really knowing what to do with the information she took in. From the way he held himself, she knew he was terribly sad. She felt bad for him. She didn't even know why he was sad, but she felt bad. His wide brimmed hat made her smile. She had seen only a handful of men wear them in the house - but then, by the time she saw the men, they usually weren't wearing much, if anything. But that didn't bother her. Not anymore. She had put the house behind her and was moving on. And currently, the only thing she had that was bothering her was that this man before her was so incredibly sad, and she knew not why nor what she could do.

"A ride across the lake?" She looked across the lake. "Oh! Well I wouldn't know! What's across the lake?" She smiled at him, innocent and sweet as ever. Yes, she had been exposed to much that many would consider disgusting and vile, yet she had managed to maintain her childish innocence, and perhaps that was what had gotten her through it all. She continued to look at the other side of the lake, as though things would suddenly appear on the bank of the river to tell her what it was she would be able. However, that certainly didn't happen, and so she merely looked back at her sad companion. Or, aquaintance. She wasn't really sure what she would call him. "And why do you just work taking people across the lake? Isn't there something more fun you could do? I mean, um, unless you like taking everyone back and forth! Oh, but you seem so sad...How could you possibly like it here? Certainly you dream of more!" She had no idea that the things she said could be thought of as offensive to many people. But they didn't exactly teach etiquette at the house.

"Your voice is very soft, mister," she commented, walking around to his other side, kneeling beside the river. She smiled at the dragonflies and moths and butterflies there. She saw a moth land in the water and start to drown, and she cried out in surprise. "Oh! No no!" She quickly reached into the water and gently lifted the poor thing out of the water. She let the water seep from between her fingers, leaving the poor drenched moth on her palm. She lifted it up to her face. "Look at this, the poor thing....It would have drowned! Can't they see the water won't hold their weight?" She sighed sadly, but then beamed as the moth began walking around her hand. She giggled. "That tickles! Look!" She showed the man the moth on her hand. "He tickles! Here! Go say hi to the boat man!" she said, smiling happily. How did she know this moth on her hand was a guy she wondered. Well, she just did. She smiled at the man as she moth opened its wings to let them dry. "He's so pretty," she said softly. "Look at his pretty little wings...."

"I only dream now of peace, miss."

Ga's narrowed amber eyes, were barely visable 'neath his straw hat. He was plainly a man of few words, or moth rather. Somewhere under that hat were his feelers, but his lovely face was frame in shiney wavey brown locks that came past his shoulders and framed his face in a lovely way. the haori and hakama pants he wore , along with the hat, seemed to hide his petite self from the world.
In his opinion though, it was for the best. Ga coudnt explain himself to be a luna moth that had earned his new form through tremendous mana levels, no, to this girl, and to anyone else, he was a simple young man.

He felt a pang in his heart as he watched the little moth in the water struggle, and felt a bit of relief when the girl rescued him. She was maddeningly cheerful but he did respect the good-hearted nature that compelled her to rescue the little bug. The moth itself seemed grateful and obeyed the girl, flitting up to Ga. It landed on the edge of his hat and clung there.

His squinted eyes peered out warilly at Leya. 'So, you like moths?" He questioned. "They arent glamorous, wouldnt you prefer the butterflies or dragonflies? So bright and irridescent?" he added in that whisper soft voice.

"Peace?" Leya looked at him questioningly, and yet at the same time, it was a look of understanding. She nodded. "Peace is a beautiful thing to dream of Mister, but how can you get peace if you're doing this all the time?" And then, as though realizing the perhaps, rudeness of her comment, her cheeks turned pink. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything. I-I mean, if this is what you love to do...Who am I to judge?" She giggled a little bit and sat down, staring up at him. Why she sat down, she wasn't quite sure, but it seemed the right thing to do. Or at least, the comfortable thing to do. And it was quite comfortable. As she sat down, a dragonfly landed on her head. She giggled and tried to look up at it, but it was a little to high up and she just couldn't see it. She nearly fell over in her attempts, and she decided that perhaps it was best that she just let it remain wherever it had landed and not disturb it in her attempts to see it.

"Would I prefer butterflies or dragonflies?" She thought about it for a moment, actually seriously contemplated her answer to his question. As she thought, the dragonfly came down and landed on her finger. She lifted it up to eye level as she looked it over and then looked up at the man before her. "I like moths," she said. "They're simple. They get their beauty without having to be super glamorous and fancy. They remind me of the common person. Some of the most beautiful people I've ever met were no more fancy and glamorous than a street child! But they had beauty in their simplicity because their beauty came from within." She looked back down at the dragonfly. "But that's not to say I don't like dragonflies," she continued, now sounding as though she spoke to both the man and the dragonfly. "The dragonfly represents speed, agility, flexibility...They are beautiful in their own ways too. Neither above or below the moths." She smiled a bit, and it seemed the dragonfly approved of her answer because he remained on her finger, and she giggled. "As for the butterflies...They too are beautiful. Their beauty is almost like a weapon, you know. They use it to scare of the birds that might want to eat them. That's why they're so brightly colored! Bright colors mean poison! The butterflies are quite sly." She smiled. "To me they represent outward beauty and intelligence, oh, and craftiness....But they are lovely too. Neither above, nor below either dragonflies or moths. How can you compare apples and oranges?"

She looked up at the man. And that was when she saw the wariness in his eyes. She tilted her head. "D-did I do something wrong?" she asked, immediately worried that she'd managed to upset someone on day 4 of her being free. She jumped up to her feet. "Oh I'm terribly sorry! I didn't mean to say anything to upset you or do anything you didn't like! I didn't mean it!" She bit her lip and looked at him apologetically, completely ready to apologize for something she wasn't even sure she did. In fact, she had no idea what she might have done, but perhaps the man would explain it to her. Then she spotted the moth, still clinging to the man's hat, and her saddened expression broke into a smile and she giggled. "I think he likes you!" she said, stepping closer and looking at the moth. "That's so cute! He's just the sweetest little moth! Look at him!" She giggled. And there was that ray of sunshine beaming from her heart again.

Of course Ga could say he was quite astonished. He never heard of anyone analizing a moth and seeing it's beauty. She seemed to love everything, and appreciated every insect she came across, and in turn, the insects seemed to adore her. He was an insect, and he was just confused by her.

He watched in amazement as the dragonfly was wooed by the girl, and deep down he wished to ask him what he saw in her, but he wasnt much of a talker. The docile, delicate little moth gripped his flute tightly and tilted his chin just slightly so he could see hr better. It was best if he remain straightforeward. She seemed to get quite upset when she thought she hurt him in some way. "No you did not." he reassured the girl. That little moth made him nervous however. He didnt like how it helped draw attention towards him

The bug made a great mistake however for as he absently nudged it off his hat it slipped off his head and hung arouf his neck by the string, showing off his feelers. He gasped and pulledi t back onto his head as fast as he could. "Well, anyway, my job is as ferryman, if you need a ride than I can be of service, otherwise I dont think i can be of much assistance to you.." Ga was petrified, he had no idea if the young woman saw his antenae or not, or what that might imply. He wished hshe would leave, so he could go back to being alone , it was safer that way.

Leya was relieved to hear that she hadn't upset him. That was good news indeed. After all, she was a people pleaser - had been her entire life. What else was she supposed to call it when she spent day after day and night after night in the house, pleasing every man that came to her? She was a people pleaser. She continued to watch the moth on the man's hat, and she giggled as the dragonfly flew up next to her face, as though jealous that she put energy into watching the little moth. She looked at the dragonfly. "Well, little guy, don't be jealous! I won't pay him any more mind than I pay you! I mean, that's only fair, right?" She giggled, and it was as she was entertained by and was entertaining the dragonfly, that the man's hat came down. She heard him gasp and looked, seeing what looked like moth feelers on his head right before he quickly replaced his hat.

She blinked. Had she really just seen that? It took her a moment to even realize what she had seen. Now why would anyone have feelers on their head? That just didn't make sense. She blinked a few more times, obviously quite confused by this matter which made no sense to her. She could see he was uneasy about whatever had happened. She could hear the fear in his voice. Now why should he be afraid? Did she seem scary? She looked herself over. No, she didn't think she looked scary. Maybe she did though...She looked back at the man. "Excuse me Mister? Um...What...Well, I don't want to be rude or prying or anything, but I just have to ask, so please don't be mad at me, ok?" She swallowed. "Um...What was on your head? I mean, under the hat, because obviously the hat is on your head now, so why would I be asking about the hat on your head?" She realized she was rambling and quickly shut her mouth, looking down at her feet shyly.

"Sorry," she apologized again, looking back up at him. "I didn't mean to ramble. It's just that I don't really know how to be around people and I don't exactly know what's 'right' and 'wrong' to say. I always just kind of speak my mind, and when you're hat came off, you had something on your head. What was it?" She looked at him with the curiosity of a child shining in her eyes. There was nothing malicious about this girl at all. He probably could have told her he was a murderous demon and she would have been simply delighted that she had had the chance to meet one. She was certainly bound to get herself in trouble, but that would happen later on - unless she managed to right now with her questions of the man before her. She didn't even know his name...

"...I can't remember what 'it' is."

Ga exhaled softly in defeat. so she didnt miss that flash of his long feathery moth feelers. He wasnt a dishonest man, he mightve been secretive, but when the truth was out, he wasnt going to lie. He reached up and gingerly removed the hat, letting the string hold it to his neck and rest on his shoulders.

Now his luxurious locks and antenae were on full display. "I wont lie..you know.. I am not one for being deceptive, not like the butterflies..what I am is a moth.." he looked down, unsure of what else he was going to do, as he was terribly ashamed of himself. sure he was a moth, but on top of that he lost his wings for following his heart. It was now broken and he, was at a loss

"Sometimes..creatures of the forest.." he hesitated, not even certain if he should say all he was saying, but he knew he couldnt lie. "Well sometimes they absorb great levels of mana and learn tricks, like, taking on humanoid forms.. We still have some traits that prove that we're not human however, and no matter how acclimated we get they tell the truth." His amber eyes darted up to meet her gaze briefly, uncertain of what her reaction would be.

Leya stared at him as he removed the hat again, and once again she could see the moth-like feelers. How interesting. She wanted to touch them, to run her hands over them. They looked soft and she smiled a bit. Sure, most people didn't have feelers - well, she assumed most people didn't since she hadn't seen many in the house who had feelers on their head - but she didn't think anyone should be ostracized for being different. After all, different was just different, it wasn't bad. But she could sense that he was ashamed of these things that made him different. She wanted to comfort him, but she stayed quiet, letting him explain to her what they were. For a moment she was distracted by the long flowing hair he had. "You're hair's very pretty," she commented, and then once more fell silent so she could actually hear what he was saying.

"You're...a moth? You mean like figuratively? Symbolically? Like how I described earlier? The person who's common but has their inner beauty and beauty in simplicity?" she asked, confused. Why should he tell her that? That was nothing to be ashamed of, and he certainly looked ashamed. And then he continued, and as realization overcame her, her eyes widened in surprise and understanding. "Oooh....So you are a real moth!" She beamed. "That's amazing! Oh, how did you learn to do the tricks? How do you learn to develop a humanoid form? Is it knowledge you're just born with - kind of like how humans just inherently know how to breathe and all that? How do you absorb mana? What is mana? Can we all absorb it? Would a human be able to turn into a little bug too? How long have you been a human?" Question after question came pouring forth, and she felt powerless to stop the neverending flow. Finally she was able to eb the flow and end it. She smiled sheepishly, her cheeks a bit pink. "Sorry...I didn't mean to ask so many questions...It''s just...I've never been able to talk to an actual moth! I mean, not with them talking back...I talk to moths and anything in nature all the time actually! They kept me company when I was in the house. I would talk to them for hours about anything really. They never seemed to mind...."

She stopped, realizing she was rambling again. "Sorry, you probably don't want to hear about my conversations with other moths and such. I never do stop to think about if other people will care for the conversation I make...But then, no one has ever really complained before...But I certainly wouldn't want people to start now..." She looked at him, falling silent for the third or forth time in a row now. "Sorry," she apologized again. "I'll be quiet this time. I promise." She smiled. She didn't understand why he was ashamed - or at least, why he seemed ashamed - but she figured she'd ask him later. She'd just spouted a multitude of questions at the young man.

Ga let out a heavy sigh. He was overwhelmed with all the questions that came pouring forth from the unusual girl. Every time he opened his mouth to clarify another question popped up behind the first and it took quite a while before she ceased her excited chattering so the moth could explain himself..

"Yes.. I am a real moth and, well mana is magic energy that comes from the erath, the trees. Because I am a moth i feed off of nectar, and a forest that is unusually rich in mana means drinking from it's flowers caused me to build up a great deal of magic in my body." The moth paused, not for any reason but that he wasnt used to speaking much, being a moth after all. "..so though luna moths normally live a week or two as adults, weeks, turned into months and years, I can't even tell you how old I must be, because i am well past my lifespan.."

He felt a little pity for the girl, when she explained how his kin kept her company. "Well, I am not surprised that a moth would listen to you, we love the fires the humans set..I.. find I occasionally still become entranced by them. As for transofrming, well you must learn to use it, it is not soemthing a moth is born with.."ga replied. His name itself meant moth, it was just a moniker he gave himself to love amongst the humans, but he iddnt know she'd like to know that.

Leya listened as he explained to her what he meant. Mana sounded quite interesting, but she was fairly certain she had never encountered the substance. After all, there was very little to be encountered in the house - and even little more of any spiritual value. She sighed and continued to listen. So had lived past his lifespan? Did that mean...if he went back to being a moth...he'd be dead? She swallowed, not wanting to think of that. She didn't like to think of people dead. No, she was far too kind for that. She had never once thought she would like to see anyone dead. Even when men beat her and raped her, did whatever they liked to her, she never wished them dead. She wished them enlightened. She wished that they could see the pain they inflicted upon her and the other girls, and she wished that they would find it within their hearts to change. But she never once wished them dead. One of the girls in the house had once wished one of the men dead, and instead, she had nearly died of some strange disease that none of the doctors in the area had ever encountered. Leya took that as proof enough that they weren't supposed to wish their fellow humans - or moths - dead.

"Fires?" She looked confused. "What's a fire?" The poor girl had never seen a fire. No, fires weren't permitted in the house lest the girls try to burn the place down. As kind as their keeper had been, he hadn't been the least bit trusting of them, and anything possibly dangerous, they were not allowed near. This included weapons, fire, alcohol, and several other things. She frowned, adn then suddenly brightened up. She may have remembered a time when the keeper had explained fire to them and even shown an example. "Oh! Do you mean the red and orange stuff that destroys the trees?" she asked brightly, very proud of herself for remembering. It was quite a feat for her, actually, to have remembered something like that that she'd been told so long ago. She wasn't the kind of person who had the greatest memory. In fact, she was quite forgetful, and was apt at losing things, but not remembering what she'd lost. This morning for instance. She'd gotten up and left, and after walking a while she had the distinct impression she'd forgotten something back at the site she'd slept at, but for the life of her she couldn't remember what it was. And she would never remember the comb she'd left behind.

"Oh! So you worked at transforming? Why did you want to become a human?" she asked curiously. "I mean, we're not all that great. I mean, sometimes humans are pretty cool - we live in these big houses, but really, I'd rather be a moth. I'd rather live out in the forests and not have to care about all of this! N-not that I'm complaining about any of it. I mean, I love being human, it's just that..." She stopped herself from rambling again. "Sorry...I've been trying to stop my rambling habit...I'll break it eventually. I promise." She smiled at him, giggling ever so softly. After a moment, it hit her - again - that she didnt know the young man's name. "Oh! I'm Leya, by the way. Sorry if you already introduced yourself, I'm a little forgetful, so I'm really sorry if I forgot!" She grinned sheepishly, being one hundred percent truthful.

"...I can't remember what 'it' is."

Ga grew increasingly nervous in front of this girl, he had trouble understanding her. she was sweet enough, but oddly niave about certain things. she had the most curious way of describing fire, but she did seem to grasp the concept. "Well yes.. that would be fire...and like a moth to a flame..so to speak I was attracted to something that has become my downfall..." He sighed heavilly, not realising that he created a handsome humanoid form or that he had absolutely charmed Leya.

"..hm..about becoming human, I wanted to talk with the humans, I thought it might be worth my time, most of them were nice enough, but occasionally an animal will shift forms and becomes something wicked. You see, by becoming virtually immortal from the energy I absorbed I can enjoy life with a lot more time.. take a butterfly, they live tragically short lives so we find them beautiful, but let one live a long time, and they become vain and cruel."

There was obviously a lot of bitterness in that curly-mopped boy. she said her name and he nodded gently. Names were something else he had trouble understanding, after all bugs had no names. "Well, I am Ga.." he said simply as he llung to his flute and absent-mindedly twitched his feelers.

Leya listened as he spoke, the interest and curiosity quite clear in her large reddish brown eyes. It was a strange color for human eyes, but she rather liked it - and so had many of the other people she'd met. She could hear the pain in his voice. So he had known someone who had hurt him. Well, he said something, but she was fairly certain it was a someone. After all, somethings didn't usually have a habit of hurting people, or tearing them down. She tilted her head, watching him, absorbing her sadness like she was a sponge. And yet, it did nothing to her but add a little caring into those glistening eyes. A little empathy, a bit of sympathy. "You wanted to talk with us? What have we to talk about that is of any interest to anyone? Really, none of us talk about much, and those of us that do talk about something really just talk about nothing and make it sound like something!" She smiled So it was a confusing explanation, but it was quite true, just the same.

As he spoke about the butterflies becoming vain, it became more and more apparent to even the naive and innocent Leya, that the object of his sadness was a butterfly. "She hurt you a lot, didn't she?" she asked softly. "She used your admiration of her? Or was it that she was just cruel in general towards you? Did you love her?" She was able to stop herself from going overboard with the questions this time, seeming to understand that it was a touchy subject that he probably wouldn't want to talk much about. She smiled gently at him, as though trying to tell him she wasn't that vain butterfly and she had no intention to hurt him. She smiled, and for a moment, she seemed to leave in her mind from where they were and softly hummed something. It was a happy little tune she had heard in one of the villages she walked through. She had no idea what it was called, but the tune made her think of little dolls dancing. She wasn't quite sure why though...

She brought herself back to the present. "It's very nice to meet you Ga! That...is what you say when you meet someone, right? I don't remember...I think the keeper talked about it some, but I never really had to worry about that." She giggled softly. She watched as his feelers twitched a bit. It was kind of funny, kind of cute. She giggled clasped her hands together in front of her as though she was a little five year old waiting for a lollipop from her papa. She looked at him, her eyes wide in joy and curiosity and interest. Her keeper had been right - the world was full of surprises! And so far, she was enjoying the surprises.

"...I can't remember what 'it' is."
