Latest news: When it was time to decide on a winner, Strangedye flaked out completely... He proudly announced that the Summer Strut was FOR the audience, BY the audience and WITH the audience. In short... Instead of choosing a winner among the finalists he's letting YOU decide. So go ahead and vote for your favourite! Their pictures and other info can be found in this thread. Voting ends: September 5th (or when this thread locks) --- Strangedye, the Artisan, has decided to start up the age old tradition of a beauty contest during the summer season. The Summer Strut has been held before, but this season comes with some changes. To avoid some of the scandals of earlier seasons Strangedye has decided to let both males and females enter, and for the first season ever hybrid aberrants are allowed to enter. Some whisper that the Artisan himself must be a hybrid, but who can tell what type he is under all that dye? Despite the rumours (or perhaps thanks to them) Strangedye has managed to scrounge up a Jury of reputable Sentinels and several sponsors. The winner of The Summer Strut will have many delicious, pretty and useful prizes to look forward to. How do I RP in the event? If you have a RP approved character you can start your own RPs in the Gathering Place subforum. Use the tag [STRUT] and be sure to mark if your RP thread is [PRIV] private, [OPEN] or [ASK] ask first. If you'd rather be paired up for RP you'll have to sign up and wait until RP staff have the time to pair people up and start the threads. Make sure to note that you'd like to be paired up when you sign up. Remember to check your character's entry below. A link will appear when a prompted RP is set up for you. You may RP as much as you can manage, but the Herald will only set up a maximum of one private thread per character. Feel free to play them in open thread(s) or start your own RPs too. What if my partner(s) in the RP never show?Well... You could try to send them the url and remind them politely, but if they don't want to play or seem to have gone missing you may contact RP staff and we'll see about sending in a NPC if it's needed for the RP to work. Note: Some of the players are up for RP, some are not. Feel free to contact those that have expressed an interest, but please do not pester those that don't want to RP at this time.

The beauties FINALIST!Name: Winterfern Task: Hunter Reason for joining: She joined the competition for a chance to prove that her intricate dye job is both useful and attractive! Talents: She keeps her lani in line quite well? Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: Don't judge a bard... Name: Honeysuckle Task: Featherstyler Reason for joining: Well, someone needs to show Noctua that a MILF female that have successfully raised two clutches can still outshine the young beauties. Or she might have entered for the attention and the potential to meet new customers *shifty eyes* It will probably be good for business at any rate. Talents: She can transform a shabby Sentinel into a striking beauty, and is really good at shaping eartufts. Up for RP: No Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: N/A FINALIST!Name: LilydoveTask: Teacher Reason for joining: Half of her reason is for herself, it's almost like a vacation from teaching for her and a chance to have a little adventure (if you can call entering a beauty pageant and adventure...). The other half is to prove something to her Aunty. The age old 'It's not the outside that matters, it's the inside' quarrel between them. By winning the pageant she'll be able to prove that beauty comes from within and not mushed-up berries slapped on feathers. Talents: She can sing Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: Don't judge a bard...FINALIST!Name: SorrelTask: Teacher Reason for joining: While he tends to be reserved, especially as he ages, he caught wind of the returning competition. At first he scoffed, yet something about it struck a chord with him. He felt somewhat spontaneous, perhaps in memory of his late, spontaneous mate. Still, if asked by a current or former student, he is entering to prove that beauty resides in the unpainted, pure-blooded members of society. None of those foolish, painted Sentinels that make a mockery of all that is their past or those... Those aberrants! Talents: Other than being a nagging, old teacher? Not really. He has a sharp memory and keeps tabs on the younger generations, but other than his mind, there isn't much that stands out about him, anymore. His nights as a swift, industrious hunter aren't completely over, but he isn't the young bird he once was. Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: Open minded? Name: Minke Task: Hunter Reason for joining: Minke is still bustling through the Deep Woods, enraptured with "city" life, and is probably somewhat confused as to what the Summer Strut is about. But she knows she's incredible, so...she's pretty much OBLIGED to enter, right? Talents: I believe supreme self confidence could be considered a talent. Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: Oh yeah? Name: Snowpeak Task: Hunter Reason for joining: He lost a bet... and now he's furious. Talents: He's a pretty good hunter? He can imitate wolf howls (absolutely useless...)? He's critic of himself to a fault and constantly seeks to improve his physical abilities...? He's good at making others feel small and insignificant...? ^^' Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: Oh yeah? FINALIST!Name: Mulberry Task: Watcher Reason for joining: A chance to socialise and maybe make new friends. And... well... if she would happen to catch the eye of some Prince Charming or something... well, that wouldn't hurt, right? Talents: A bright and strong personality? Maybe she could impress someone with her knowledge of Mus trivia... Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions: [X]Link(s) to plot RPs: A little nibble Name: Cloudberry Task: Medic Reason for joining: Mainly just for fun! Cloudberry doesn't consider herself a great beauty, but the Summer Strut seemed to be a nice chance to socialize and make new friends. Although she is soft-spoken, the young medic isn't shy, and looks forward to the festivites. Talents: In addition to her abilities as a medic, her precise will makes her a decent painter, although she hasn't really gotten into feather dying, and mainly paints trinkets for her own amusement. Up for RP: Yes Answers to questions:Link(s) to plot RPs: Open minded?

The JuryStrangedye is the host, but he is also judging the contest. To his aid he has gathered some prominent members of Sentinel society. He is open minded when it comes to gender and type, but is very picky when it comes to looks. He is extremely visual and tends to judge more according to looks than according to talents or personality. Up for RP: As needed Link(s) to plot RPs: Bracken is the Simon Cowell of Noctua. He's incredibly typist and tends to be very picky, having good eyes (due to his job). He's also a bit disdainful towards Sentinels who have fluff for brains, and would favor entrants that have something else to show besides looks. Up for RP: Yes Link(s) to plot RPs: Oh yeah? Hollysong hopes to bring a certain respectability to the pageant – as he feels the organizer is hardly adequate. He values conformation and purity above all else. As such, he is not bothered by dyes or quirky personalities and values "beauty" that doesn't get in the way of functionality. Up for RP: Yes Link(s) to plot RPs: Don't judge a bard... Liam was conned into helping out by his adoptive son Thorn. But it sounds like fun, and he fancies himself a decent judge of character. Up for RP: Yes Link(s) to plot RPs: Open minded?

The sponsors Thorn, a Crafter specialising in metal, has graciously decided to donate a custom made piece of jewellery to the winner. Up for RP: Yes Falchior the Gatherer is donating a well-fed Waral's weight in the finest truffles he can gather. These can be given to the winner or kept like backstage snacks for the contestants. Up for RP: Yes Link(s) to plot RPs: A little nibble Twilla the Gatherer has been kind enough to donate an assortment of tasty tidbits (nuts and berries) that she and her companions have gathered. Up for RP: Yes Link(s) to plot RPs: A little nibble Cloverfield, the Parus keeper, is donating one to three parus, trained to sing and pre-dyed in her keeper colors; guaranteed to match your tone in any singing-based talent event! Up for RP: Yes Link(s) to plot RPs: A little nibble Silverbirch the Scout will make sure the winner is well fed. She will donate a nice plump hare - or two, if she's lucky. Up for RP: No

RP opportunitiesFor individual RPs, see the links above. More links will be added as staff creates RPs. The Talent Show is open for any Sentinel, both those in the contest and those that haven't signed up. If you can find a reason for your character to be there - go for it! (but only the beauties will show off their talents of course) Your Sentinel can be in this open RP even if they are in a prompted one set up by the Herald if you want to.

--Ahem-- Miss Mulberry, what are your views on cross type mating? Ehm, well... Hmmm. Considering that the offspring of such matings are often weak or sickly, I honestly don't think that it's something any Sentinel in their right mind would knowingly get themselves into... unless there were some very sincere and very strong emotions involved. So I guess I think it's rather romantic, in a... fairy-tale-tragic kind of way.
Miss Mulberry, what do you like most about yourself, and could you explain why? Oh, eh... I think... my facial disk. Father said the colour reminded him of crushed Mulberries, and that's where they got the idea for my name. But I also sort of like these white spots going up my ear tufts a bit... Not sure I can explain why, though. Maybe because they make a nice contrast to the dark facial disk? Haha, I'd be a terrible Artisan.
Miss Mulberry, what are the biggest challenges to young Sentinels today? Hahaha! Big, tough opponents that hold the best territories!
In your opinion, what task is the most important to the clan, and why? Um. Oh wow, that's a difficult one... But... In my opinion... I think I'd have to say Minder. They care for and raise the next generation. I honestly don't know where we'd be without them. They do a tremendous job.
What is the most important feature to look for in a territory? That it has enough space to keep a decent-sized family. Oh, and some good hunting ground wouldn't hurt, of course. A family needs to eat.
What do you feel is the most valuable trait when seeking a mate? Ahhh... Well... Hrm. Naturally, he should be a good provider. But... to me, it's equally important that our personalities match well. I want someone I can talk to and have fun together with.

--Ahem--
Mr Sorrel, what are your views on cross type mating?
Cross-type mating is an abomination, as I am sure you are well aware. The resulting offspring are usually sickly and the whole affair is generally detrimental to the Clan's health as a whole. Any Sentinel in his or her right mind would do well to squash any notion of mating with another type, lest they harm the future of our young ones.
Mr Sorrel, what do you like most about yourself, and could you explain why?
I am particularly fond of my memory, for I make it a point to remember each youngster that passes through my territory for lessons and the faces of those I've taught at the enclave.
Mr Sorrel, what are the biggest challenges to young Sentinels today?
The biggest challenge that the younger generations face, tonight, would have to be temptation. Temptation to slack, as our Clan seems to be well off and well protected. Temptation to procreate with another, despite dire consequences if the other happens to be of another type, or both youngsters are not ready to raise offspring.
In your opinion, what task is the most important to the clan, and why?
This one is difficult for me, as each and every task is important and contributes in some way or another, even if some do so more than others. At the risk of sounding as though I have an inflated ego, I would have to say that I find the task of teaching most important to the clan. Teachers are responsible for making sure the young of the clan learn what they need to know to better themselves and to better the Clan.
What is the most important feature to look for in a territory?
One first should check to see if the territory is, indeed, healthy and worthy of his or her attempts to win it from it's current holder. Check to see that the trees appear healthy and that prey seems abundant enough to feed yourself and your future family.
What do you feel is the most valuable trait when seeking a mate?
Good health. It is always most advisable to select a healthy mate that is able to father or mother healthy offspring. The future is always what one must strive for.

--Ahem-- Mr Snowpeak, what are your views on cross type mating? It doesn’t bother me one bit. Everyone says aberrants are weak but I’ve yet to see an aberrant that lacks in speed or strength. Honestly, I couldn’t care less.
Mr Snowpeak, what do you like most about yourself, and could you explain why? (...) I’d say my hunting abilities and the way I keep steadily improving physically with training. But I feel there’s still much I have to improve.
Mr Snowpeak, what are the biggest challenges to young Sentinels today? Overpopulation, maybe... The enclaves are usually full of hatchlings and finding adequate guidance from minders and teachers can be hard sometimes. Also, young sentinels have a little trouble competing with the more established sentinels but I believe that’s only natural. I also worry about the increasing number of non-combatants. I fear that the Clan might grow weaker as a whole.
In your opinion, what task is the most important to the clan, and why? There are many important tasks but if I’d have to choose… Hunters and Scouts, definitely. I believe the Clan’s providers play the key role in our society at the moment. They’re pretty similar tasks so it’s a little hard to choose between the two. If I had to, I’d pick Scouts since they hunt but also keep an eye on our borders. But task importance varies depending on many factors. For instance, Rangers will grow in importance if we ever receive outside threats...
What is the most important feature to look for in a territory? Being adequate to the sentinel’s task, I suppose. As a Hunter, for me that means good size and decent prey numbers in a slightly remote location.
What do you feel is the most valuable trait when seeking a mate? (…) A mate…? (…) Ah… (…) Ambition, I’d say. Strength is useless if you don’t have the determination to use it properly. And I guess com-compatibility is important too. Sharing the same ideas… and stuff… yeah.

--Ahem-- Miss Lilydove, what are your views on cross type mating? I think it's perfectly acceptable. I have yet to see these 'sickly' chicks cross type mating has supposedly produced...
Miss Lilydove, what do you like most about yourself, and could you explain why?
I pride myself on my voice, although I also like that I have the ability to teach others how to improve theirs. Knowing that they have a great talent such as singing can improve a Sentinel's confidence. I know, I've seen it happen in some of my students and I am extremely happy for them!
Miss Lilydove, what are the biggest challenges to young Sentinels today?
Oh goodness, there are so many I don't know where to start! Hmm...Let's see, one of the biggest ones would probably be pleasing their parents and elders. I can be quite hard especially if the parent is strict. 'Dye your feathers', 'Don't mate with him', 'Find a territory close to home'...Parents can be very hard to please.
In your opinion, what task is the most important to the clan, and why?
Honestly I'd love to say the Bards, they bring so much life to a clan! But I can't, because without a tasks like Hunters, Gatherers and the like, there would be no food! No food means a very malnourished clan, and terribly unhealthy Bards, not to mention no one would have any energy to complete their tasks. You have to have a strong base I always say, and the Hunters and Gatherers are probably the base of a clan.
What is the most important feature to look for in a territory?
Plenty of space, not too far away other Sentinels, goodness knows if something were to happen to you and everyone was too far away to hear you call for help...A water source nearby is nice too. Also, a healthy tree to nest in is a must. You don't want a rotting tree that might fall over in the middle of the day, haha!
What do you feel is the most valuable trait when seeking a mate?
I'd have to say loyalty. You don't want a mate that's going to run off every time another female walks his way! He has to love you of course, although I don't think love is exactly a trait...

--Ahem-- Miss Minke, what are your views on cross type mating? Cross, er, cross-type mating? They...they do that? -silent, and highly disturbed thought- Well, I guess if you can't get any within your own Type, then, well...well, I guess just anything'll have to do.
Miss Minke, what do you like most about yourself, and could you explain why? -fluff!- What I find to be my greatest quality would have to be my ambition. I believe that most people abandon their youthful idealism and get going on finding mates and having chicks, and this self-centeredness is the root of all the problems our people have yet to solve!
Miss Minke, what are the biggest challenges to young Sentinels today? Sentinels fledging...today...are facing, big challenges...with...beauty pageant questions.
In your opinion, what task is the most important to the clan, and why? Well. I guess I can't say for sure that there is one task that really covers it, unless you start getting into like the Brigadier's job and stuff, maybe. But I know the task what's least important! That is definitely Keepers, oh, man, like it isn't easier to catch a mouse than to raise Mus smart enough to spell your name! Even Bards at least have to carry around a head full of history!
What is the most important feature to look for in a territory? Aging neighbors! Er, haha, and patchy ground cover and decent prey food sources.
What do you feel is the most valuable trait when seeking a mate? ...Uhhh. Big...wings. -fierce blink, confirming nod!-

--Ahem-- Miss Honeysuckle, what are your views on cross type mating? Ahem, that's Mrs actually... And even if I didn't have a mate I would only consider Deep Woods males. What other adults do are none of my business, but I think it's irresponsible to create hybrids willy-nilly. It's just sad when they don’t think of the chicks that their unions will produce, but I don't think we should blame the poor hybrids. In fact, some of my best customers are hybrid aberrants. But I'm sad to say that while there are those that are perfectly healthy, others have had to suffer for their parents decisions.
Mrs Honeysuckle, what do you like most about yourself, and could you explain why? My favourite part of my personality is my determination! I wouldn't be here without it. As for my appearance, I'm rather fond of my eyes. And before you ask - Yes, I went to a Mystic to get them to look like this, and there's nothing wrong with that. Well worth the risk if you ask me. You should see the beautiful eyes of my children! I was delighted to find that it's true that acquired colour can pass on.
In your opinion, what task is the most important to the clan, and why? The Clan needs all kinds of tasks to function, so I don't find it fair to single out just one. But if I have to pick just one I'd say hunter. They feed the clan and as combatants they are a vital part of the Clan's defences.
What is the most important feature to look for in a territory? An inexperienced Sentinel might think that it's the size that matters, but what's in it is much more important. Resources, resources, resources!
What do you feel is the most valuable trait when seeking a mate? Well, I'm not looking currently. But to those that are I'd advice on going for good health. This clan was not built by the weak and sickly.
