Adonia had been running hard, and finally she doubled over, panting. She had always been fast, but she wasn't sure if she could out run police cars. She plopped down in the grass, surrounded by a grove of trees. It was dark now, and it seemed to envelop her. Groaning, she put her head on the ground, her cap on the ground next to her.

That night, Adonia began to dream. She was in a dimly lit room, and she could hear someone breathing hard. Then crying. Someone flicked the light on and Adonia saw Artemis, as a woman, holding a baby, wiping her brow. Beside her was a tall man with dark hair and wild brown eyes, a bow slung across his shoulder. He looked very happy. "No one must know about this," Artemis said softly, cradling the baby. "Don't worry," Orion said, quietly. "He will be my assistant. My ward. You will disappear from the picture." Adonia realized with a jolt she was staring at the newborn Lyke. With baited breath, she leaned in close. "What should we name him?" Orion was asking. "Well," Artemis said thoughtfully. "He is a child of the hunt. We should name him Lykaios. Or Lyke for short. Would you like that?" she cooed, leaning in and tickling him. There a whirl of color and Adonia was in a different place.

They were in a forest now, and Adonia walked beside Orion, who looked older, and more fatherly. He had a beard now, and was taking long strides, turning his head this way and that. Adonia was wonder where Lyke was when she heard a rustling noise behind her. Lyke was climbing from tree to tree. He was much older now, but only eight or nine. He was not as graceful as he was when he left, but he climbed quite nimbly. He was constantly chattering now, his tawny eyes alight. (Adonia knew they turned completely silver in the dark.) He disappeared, before climbing out onto a branch up ahead, waiting for his father to pass through. Just before Orion walked under the tree, Lyke dropped downwards, still hanging on with his knees, yelling "BOO!" Orion yelled and dropped his crossbow. He pulled Lyke down from the tree. "That was not funny!" he said sternly, give Lyke a small slap on the wrist. But all the same, his eyes were twinkling, and Adonia thought she could detect a smile behind his beard. Laughing hard, Lyke continued to chatter away. "Pa?" he asked, his tunic swaying in the breeze. "Where did I get my eyes from?" Adonia looked closer, and saw his eyes were more silvery. Looking at Orion's wild brown eyes, then at Lyke's handsome tawny ones, she realized how Lyke must have questioned the difference. In fact, it was a little odd to see Lyke with tawny eyes. They had slowly become more silver as time went on, she realized. By the time he turned 14 they were completely silver. Orion shifted his bow slightly. "From your mother," he answered. Another whirl of color.

Lyke was thirteen now, the same as he was the day Adonia met him. He was sitting in a small hut, concerned. Orion was putting on sandals, looking cross. "Dad, don't go out in the fields today," Lyke said worriedly. "Don't be silly," Orion said wearily. He laced his sandals. "What's wrong with that?" "I don't know," Lyke answered truthfully. "I have a bad feeling..." With sudden sickness, Adonia realized this must be the day Artemis would accidentally shoot Orion, because Apollo told her to. Orion left, despite his son's protests, and Lyke was left to sit alone. Hours later (though it felt much shorter to Adonia) there was a knock at the small door. Lyke stood up, walked over, and answered it. He barely had time to open it just a crack, when he flew across the room, unconscious. Artemis stood behind the door, tears streaming across her face. "Sorry son," she whispered. She hurried over and placed her hand on his forehead, wiping his memory. Once more, there was a whirl of color.

They were in an odd looking room, Artemis crouched, wearing a cloak. Adonia realized she was bowing. Automatically she turned and saw He-be, wearing a cross expression. "You want me to keep him for how long?" she asked, expectant. "Just a few centuries!" Artemis begged. "Until I can figure something out!" He-be became red with annoyance. "It just so happens," she said stiffly, "that I am creating a temple where time stops. The boy can stay there, feast on bread and wine, until time comes you decide to let him out." Artemis fell to her knees. "Thank you!" she sobbed. He-be took hold of Lyke's shoulders, he had been standing in the corner, dazed. With a click, she and him vanished. Adonia woke up, panting. (Sorry, I don't know how to do the accent thingy.)

She could see lights coming out from behind the trees. She cursed in Greek and snatched up her cap and jacket, putting both on. Shaking a few leaves out of her curly hair, she ran out of the trees and further away, trying to make it to Los Angeles.

Running hard, Adonia managed to make it to another train, one that could take her to Denver, if she wasn't attacked by monsters. Twisting her cap backwards, she sneaked aboard and plopped down in a seat, exhausted.

Someone poked her, and she turned around in annoyance. Jumping slightly, she bowed her head respectfully. "Lord Ares," she murmured. "Hey kid," Ares said, grinning. He was dressed in his biker uniform, and he was holding a tray full of food. He placed it on the table and turned to face her. "What are you doing out here?" Adonia looked at him casually. "Going to live in Denver, with family." Ares sniffed. "Yeah right," he rolled his eyes, empty and flaming. "When you tell me what's going on, I'll be there." He got up and left.
