I want all the sponsorship crap out, really. But Skittles invading the Easter event? And the prom? That's too far.
I love Gaia's holiday events. It's my favorite part of this site. That made me so upset, even in real life. I can't eat Skittles anymore.

They have brought out a FEW nice items, but I agree. We need a LOT LESS of skittles. Originally, Gaia was supposed to be an anime/Japanese sort of hangout place. Why don't we have more of anime sponsorships?
::EDIT:: Gaia definitely likes to rip off ideas from other animes.
Steel plated ninja band and Orinkage - Naruto
Fremere's Guard eyes - Hitman Reborn
the head ornaments (The crescent and the V) From gurren Lagann and Gundam
Gund*mu cardboard - The V from Gundam.
Melonpan of Haruharu - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Black Ops Gear - Metal Gear Solid (Supposedly. I've never played it myself, so I can't say)
TV head - Fooly Cooly (The robot, I can never remember his name)
Oculus Magica (1st pose) - the green eyes are Gaara's from Naruto
Oculus Mythica - Has L's eyes from Deathnote
Those are just ones that I know of.

 Most of those items are Wanted by a large group of the users. And they are slightly altered so there won't be Copy Right Issues. And since Gaia 'used' to be a Japanese Culture, Anime, manga and Video games hangout it's kinda obvious Items from Japanese Show and Games are going to be popular.
But this is about skittle, which I never liked anyway. There are like... Just putting them every where!

yeah Skittles suck and Gaia could make a lot of money sponsoring anime like Naruto, Bleach, Code Geass, etc. Because Anime is a huge industry that brings in lots of money (it makes me broke) and has lots to advertise I am sure now if gaia took that on and started to advertise various animes it wouldn't be bad at all instead of getting gay a** kung fu panda gear we could be getting real Jonin Vests, Zampakto's(sp) and other really kick a** anime stuff like if they released a thrid version of the oculus magica with stuff like Sharingan, Byakugan, Rinnegan, etc that would be totally kick a** and would do very well but nope we get gay a** Kung fu panda stuff... oh and Hogwarts students with afros im sorry I Rather have Alucard making announcement then some stupid douche bag ginger avatar supporting harry potter (which I love but I like anime better) They could bring out a lot more Gundam Items including Zech's mask or Death scythe's Scythe.... I mean your options are limitless with anime but Gaia decided to be stupid and use skittles EFFIN SKITTLES

I saw a gaia ad in one of my shounen jump books. It was about zOmg.
As for skittles. I hate that whenever I pm. I see a skittles ad. It keeps making me really annoyed. D:<

It would be nice if they either cut back a bit on the sponsor-related items or got a better selection of sponsors for us to select swag from, or even both, but since Gaia's admins need $$$ to keep the site going, there's no chance that we'll see sponsorships go away completely. Even though I didn't join until after the prom and Easter events, I agree that these sorts of things should be Gaia-only. There's definitely such a thing as too much product placement, especially when there's only one or two sponsors footing the bills for everything. Milking the cash cow to death are we? Take the Skittles stuff for a great example. I don't really like Skittles that much, and there's so much Skittles-related junk that someone like me who wants gold more than their swag makes it nearly impossible to sell the sh--err, stuff--on the Marketplace for any kind of profit. I also prefer Snickers, and wouldn't have a problem with a reasonable amount of items related to M&M/Mars, Hershey's, Nestle, or even Wonka, either in addition to, or better still, instead of Skittles. Going with just one or two sponsors is kind of like putting your eggs all in the same basket--it may be convenient, but if something goes wrong, you're screwed!

Yes, they could be called "rip offs" and " knock offs" but the fact is, Gaia's users wanted these items. And I for one don't mind Gaia making those similarities for us. Infact, wish they'd take the hint and do that with some YYH things.
But the fact is, ever since Gaia has been around, there have been knock offs on this site. Right in the very gold shops you buy from. Just no one probably noticed / caught the jest / read the description on the item that wasn't overly popular back in the day in Ian's store.
"At first it looks like something a poor peasant would wear.. but at second glance, wouldnt you wear something like this if you were a dashing prince who was in hiding after his kingdom was destroyed, trying to protect a mysterious girl from another world using his giant mechanical armor? Of course not...."
That is pretty much the direct plotline of the anime "Escaflowne" a rather good anime at that.
But the fact is, there has been these knock offs all over the site, that is sort of Gaia's roots. So, actually, don't think that is something to complain about. o.o;
