I just got started in pastels. From what I know there is few people that use them in their art.
Come out come where ever you're hiding! There has to be some people here that uses them.

I use them for things like Floral drawings and still life. I'm not that great with them though sad
How are you finding them?

I find them messy and hard to control. But I have made one nice piece with them. To me they are to difficult. I am going to try to paint with them though and see how that goes.

Well I guess if the process is messy but the product is good then it doesn't matter too much smile what did you draw? (if you don't mind my asking)
Good luck experimenting, and lemme know if you pick up and useful techniques.

The first thing I did with them was a set of anime eyes just to get the feel for the pastels. But the first piece I ever did was a heart in a shadowy room ill have to put it up sometime for you to see.
Will do. Be glad to let you know how it works.

I used oil pastels for an assignment in my Beginner's Art class. We were supposed to recreate one of Van Gogh's paintings. It's hard to get in details with those things.

I don't do oil pastels. I prefer soft/dry pastels. ^_^ (Here's what I can do with soft pastels) click here for a closer look: http://burningartist.deviantart.com/art/Man-and-Beast-Part-1-32050288

So Belladona Nightshade do you think the soft pastels are easier to use? I have only used the oil pastels.

Yeah cause you don't have to worry about layering and you can blend 100000X times more easily with soft pastel then oil.
Oil frustrates me when I'm using it and it ends up always looking pretty amateurish unless I use a really big paper and try to layer everything in fine detail. It's great for landscapes but I'm more of a portrait kind of person. confused
