Well I guess I will start off...im Sallestia but you may here people call me Squid. I have been told I was a good artist since kindergarten but I havent been one of those artists that had to draw in my sketch book every single day. I draw or what ever only when I feel like. Here lately it has been more often that I work on my art.

Yesh a very lame attempt to introduce myself but I dont know how else to do it. 3nodding And no im not a child prodigy or how ever you spell that.

(Edit)
Well it looks like I gave the shortest amount about myself so this is an edit in add on!! I am currently 16 years old. What really got me started into art other than my art class assignment was hearts xd Sounds odd I know. But I would doodle hearts like every young girl. Then I got bored with it and decided to make them look different. So I made them 3D, add shading, made them geometric. But what really got me started is when I started to add ribbons around the heart. People wanted me to draw a heart with a ribbon that said their crushes name. Then I started to add roses. Eventually that got me into trying new things like drawing sonic characters and soon anime. Now I dont have one particular style. I do realistic anime and some art that I dont even know if they have a category.

YOUR TURN!!

My nickname is Meep and I'm 13 years old. I've only been drawing for two years now, going on a third. For most of my life, till I was 11, people didnt give a single thought to my art. Then suddenly inspiration struck and I drew several pictures that where insanely good compared to my other art and thats how I started drawing. With suden tallent. I didnt even know it was tallent, I just wanted to make my pictures look good.

I play the trumpet, guitar, sing, and I know a bit of clarinet.

Hi, I'm Sola - not my real name btw, I'm 24 years old and have been drawing since kindergarten age and at that time it was a bird made up of circles, lines and a triangle and I'd have it in the corner of every work book I had.

I drew as often as I could and always animals, I've still got old art pads full of doodles, drawings, sketches ect. All cartoony apart from a time when I used my animal fact file, my lion king and Farthing wood friends magazines to draw from photos (the mags had an all about section of various wildlife found in Afica and UK respectively). So Lion king and FWF style is a huge influance in my art still lol

As a child, people were always impressed by my art, which I felt was really no big deal since I just drew for fun and was confused how other people couldn't draw like me and annoyed when they (even teachers) wanted me to draw for them, even now I still don't feel comfortable drawing for someone, I'm not that good.

I'm happy to say I have improved a bit since I was a kid, but since I left school I lost interest in doodling, I guess sitting in a room with my teacher droning on is great inspiration with my art XD but I could never rouse myself to actually draw something even if I tried making myself.

It's only been a few years that I've gotten back into art, partly thanks to the internet (I wanted to draw my human rp characters at the time) and partly thanks to anime rolleyes I wanted to draw humans and having only touched on that subject I realised I couldn't draw humans at all! So anime drawing books helped get me into it, now I'm trying to get away from anime XD

So now after drawing humans (and humans transforming into animals) for a while I'm getting back into drawing my first love, animals via digital means which has opened up colouring to me, which I have been hesitant to try properly except a few select pictures. I'm slowly getting better in my art, but still have a long way to go until I'm content with it.

Wow, my life in a nutshell much?

I guess Ill go now.

Hey, I'm cold fridge. I'm 15 and been taking drawing seriously when I was in 4th grade.
I mean, we've ALL been drawing ever since we could get a pencil and paper, but when you get older you either stay with it or do somthing else.

Anyway, yes, anime is the thing that actully got me into drawing. But I got sick of drawing it and is currentely trying to find my own style.
I mean I still love manga and anime, but its time for me to move on.

I use the computer program CGillust to color my stuff, but I've been yearning to try somthing traditional, Im not sure what I want to try but I'll figure it out.

Thats about it.

Hello, I'm Nat (not real name) a soon 26 year old professional illustrator and comic artist. Currently working on a comic to be published this autumn.

I have been drawing since I could hold a pen and have been inspired by comics such as Prince Valiant and ElfQuest. I also have been growing up watching anime and american cartoons (I'm from Sweden).

I have been inspired by history, myths and fantasy all my life, I do Viking and medieval re-enactment, sewing dresses and such in the styles of the Viking age and early middle ages.

I use a lot of my inspiration in the way I design my characters.

I use traditional mediums mostly, like Copic markers and ink.

Ooo, it's nice to get to know people a little better 4laugh all these stories about why you guys became artists are really interesting.

@Sallestia, do you still take inspiration from hearts?

@xpheonix987, haha, that's awesome! I guess you showed them, eh? biggrin

@Meeptard, wow, that's really unusual. People usually develop their skills over longer time. All I can say is, lucky you! smile

@Sola, I drew with animal fact files as a kid as well! biggrin heehee, they were very useful actually. I get what you mean about trying to get away from anime. There's only so much you can do with it.

@cold fridge, I'm trying to find my own style too smile not succeeding so far. How's the traditional media conquest going at the moment?

@Nathaniel Mea, I had a look at your DA and I'm seriously impressed! I love your work. Do you have any tips about working in the industry?

@lilmissmaya, any ideas what field you want to work in yet? smile
PostPosted: Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:31 am

I guess it's my turn smile

My name's Alex, I'm from the UK and I just turned 17.

I'm a student in Art, Graphic Design, English and History.

Artwise, I've worked in the industry a little, but not a lot. I'm hoping to learn a lot more.

I don't really have an interesting story as to why I do art. I just think it's fun smile

The main influences of my work are:

- Classic/renaissance art pioneers
- Religious/mythological themes
- Cyberpunk
- Fantasy/sci-fi themes

I'm hoping to become a concept artist for games/films, but it's never gonna happen, lol.

Its very interesting how people got into art biggrin

@Daaku-Kurou I'm just glad I didn't start with anime when I started drawing, so it's only human that have that influance, my animals can be a right mixture of disney, generic cartoon and slight realisum, although I am a bit rusty.

Keep an eye on this website;

http://www.train2game.com/

My friend is doing the developer course and he says they are working on a course for game artists. These guys sound great because they are teaching you important skills that game developers want and need since its from the game developers themselves!
