I know that there are thousands of Linux distros out there already but none of them are your own, they may not come with programs or features that you want out of the box. This is the exact reason why SUSE started their SUSE Studio service, with this service users can build their own SUSE based distro with the name, look, packages, features that they want without having to worry about dealing with making security patches or having to package your own programs. The kind of builds that is possible with this are: Hard drive/USB images, LiveCD/DVD (with install ability), VMware images, XEN images.

What is everyones ideas on this?

The only problem with that

- An existing working Ubuntu on your machine

I am a SUSE user, besides SUSE Studios is web based so it doesn't matter what OS/Distro you are currently running you just have to have a web browser that uses ether the Geeko or webkit rendering engines and I have more than one person building the distro all they need to have is an Open ID and I can add them. If an ubuntu based system is preffered by the guild (although I am against it because I dislike Ubuntu) then I'm sure something can be worked out.

All my systems run some variant of Ubuntu, but I've used SuSe in the past.
I used to hate ubuntu, but the latest releases won me over. (8.04-9.04)

The thing is we can make this our own so even if you wanted apt-get for the package manager we can have it, there are no limits to it

Hm, don't you think that if building a distro is in the works, that maybe we should post what we'd want in it? Just wondering.

Yes, some of the details that we need to know if this is going to work are:

Desktop Environment
Package Manager
Default programs

Of course now that we know that C & T forums are building one I don't know if we should contribute to that rather than starting over.

As one of the primary developers of the C&T distro (code name: B( . )( . )bOS) I would invite you guys to contribute your ideas to our distribution.
