My school is doing a play soon, and they're looking for techies. I'm thinking about signing up for one of the Assistant Directors.

I know of the basic idea of the job, I was just wondering if anyone here has done it before or can at least tell me what its like or what requirements are needed for the job. Sort of like how they felt about the job or if they thought it was annoying.

Well, i've never had the job before, but I know a few things they are responsible for...

1. Taking notes on what the director tells you to durring rehersals
2. Taking over when director is not there
3. Mediating fights between director/stagemanger (or director/anyone for that matter).

It sounds like fun though. xd Plus, if you don't like acting and you want to direct a play in the future, it's good experience.

Thanks. See, Assistant Director sounds like fun............ but Ii'm not too sure if it acctually is. (*quickly runns back to design table and begins sketching costumes*)

I'll go back to the costume crew idea. But thanks, without your info, I could be pulling my hair out!

Depends, in my opinion. If it's a large-scale performance, you'll be taking notes, and pretty much everything Naya said. If it's smaller, I'd lean towards believing you'd fall into my oft-role of jack of all trades techie with the title of Assistant Director.

Sorry Lil Cricky, Student directors are worthless (I know Im going to get it in school tomorrow, but you'll have to find me first ninja ) In our productions they dont do much. Esspecially David Rickli. I hate him with a passion. He thinks his little gang of ushers are beter than the vetren techies, and that he is beter than all his little usher minions scream . Sorry for going off a bit. But when he Student directed he did nothing!!! He sat on his lazy a** and got like 10 thespian points for it!!! IT'S SO HARD CONTROLING MY LANGUAGE!

I've been offered Assisstant Director for our school play this year.
I was going to decline, but then I found out that I got cast in a really s*** part, so I'm gonna take up the offer...

The directors know me and trust me (I'm a very, very senior student at secondary school. I'm in year 14) So I think he'll let me excercise some power of the direction of the peice, which'll be nice.

Year 14? I thought 13 was as high as you could possibly go?

Technically, it is. But you can stay on for a third year if, say, you're re-taking.

I'm not re-taking but there were some AS's that I really wanted to do so I was allowed to stay.

It works for me; the unfamiliar kinda freaks me out, which makes applying to Drama School a bit of a problem to me... sweatdrop

Ah well, go out on a limb, that's where the future is.

I wonder who is going to be AD this year? Dakota's whole drama department took a major hit after last year. The director retired. It lost all but one or two male actors. Lost all but two to three compitant techies. Life is going to be tough for the new director at the school. so much of its talents, including me, graduated.
