The best thing is to go to conventions with a group of friends so you will always have someone to hang out with, makes it 4x as fun. There will be a lot of staff around to tell you where things are if you ever get lost, too.
Whenever you get the schedule there will be a lot of things that you will want to do. Highlight the things that you want to do the most, but since it is your first time expect to miss somethings because it is easy to get distracted by all the great things around you.
Conventions generally have a good vibe.

I second that.
Also, be prepared for two things you want to see happening at the same time since there is SO MUCH planned for San Japan 2.x. Don't get too exhausted early during your visit running from panel to panel or visiting artist alley and the dealers room. Find a big spot, out of the way of it all, with your friends and sit down anywhere really, and take a load off of your feet, relax.
If you get a little over stimulated by all of the noise and ruckus throughout the con, a video room is a great place to sit down in a nice cool, dark room and just chill for a while and let your senses recharge.

i went with my best friend at my frist con (which was san japan) and we loved it and we were both screaming fan girls together. but lol we didn't want to take pictures or hug anyone because we were like...scared lol.
but now were like....crazy at anime cons.. X3
i'd just say take a break once in awhile and before the con gets lots of rest.

my friends never act like fangirls unless it's miyavi then u should be scared sleepless i mean if u get in there way u'll find youself awake under water

I can't wait to go. I've got 3 costumes lined up, one some might recognize and the other two are of my own creation (for D&D) yet they are totally anime friendly. Can't wait you guys!
