I've never even considered silent cartoons.
They didn't cross my mind.
I should really start watching a few.

I think I might have seen a few when I was younger... Mostly Felix the Cat.

Search Little Nemo or Windsor McCay on YouTube & you should find some. Also, there used to be several of the old Max Fleischer Koko the Clown rotoscoped cartoons (this means someone acted the part out, was filmed & then the movements traced into animation drawings--a process invented by the Fleischers...and occasionally still used even in modern times; as in Ralph Bakshi's [atrocious] animated version of Lord of the Rings).
You may find an old silent Krazy Kat cartoon, Mutt & Jeff, & I'm not sure yet what all else.
The first two Mickey Mouse cartoons were actually made as silents, but not released as such. When Steamboat Willie was made as the first sound cartoon it was released ahead of the others, and those were given an added-on soundtrack & released after Steamboat Willie.

I'll hunt some when I'm back on a fast computer.
I do have Windsor McCay's first cartoon on my Profile (if YouTube hasn't removed it, anyway). People back then wouldn't believe this was drawings moving, so realistically did he portray the characters. So he did Gertie the Dinosaur to prove once and for all he was creating animated drawings.
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' "Runnin' Down a Dream" music video is pure homage to Windsor McCay & his early 20th century comic page "Little Nemo". It isn't silent of course, but pretty awesome to watch, especially if you can spot all the direct references to sequences in the comic. xd
There is a DVD of the entire collection of all Windsor McCay's animation work, finished & unfinished. He is one of the great pioneers of the art form in the US.

Steam Boat Willie! I love watching that one. Felix the Cat is good, too. Haven't seen a whole lot of others aside from them. I should probably start youtubing this stuff- get better acquainted with it. Although I'm taking a film studies course in about two months, and I'm sure I'll get in all the goods then.
