Welcome to the Imagination Town Library. Here, we can give book recommendations, hold book discussions, ask for help on problems, and just generally relax with a good book. I'll be the Head Librarian, so randomly I'll be posting book recommendations, plot charts, etc. in this thread.

I may also need some assistants, so if you want to apply, please just send me a review of some really good story. It doesn't have to be fiction because a lot of nonfiction is good too.

I am looking for a good sci-fi book. What would you recommend?

Scifi normally isn't my fortay however, The Host by Stephenie Meyer was an awesome book. I know a lot of people hated the Twilight books but this one is geared for more of an adult audience. 3nodding

I would recommend Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It's about earth in the future where books are banned. Egads! Books are banned! How horrendous! Now why would a librarian recommend this kind of book...? whee question whee question

Any book by David Weber. The Honor Harrington series is great. The first book is "On Basilisk Station" it is in it's 6th or 7th printing.

Paper is auto-combustive at Fahrenhiet 451 Woooosh! It has parallels to today's democratic party I'm sorry to say. I'm changing parties by the end of the year.

Yes, I know that 451 is when paper burns. And you used to be a democrat? Actually, it has a comment on all of society and where we're heading. You sort of have to read a lot of Bradbury to understand that he hates technology and think's progress is just the name we give to moving backwards.

Ok, I was wondering what series would be good for my daughter, who is nine. She likes alot of different things, and this summer I am trying to get her to read more.

No problem! Is she a strong reader? Because if she is, I have some harder books for her. I'll just scatter some series in:

Nancy Drew
Enchanted Forest Chronicles First one is Dealing with Dragons
Tale of Desperoux
Dragon Slippers
The Invention of Hugo Cabret
The Clique (Hmmm, this may be little old.)

Manga is a good way to get kids to read. They combine the best of comics and short novels. Comics is why I'm able to read today. I have learning disabilities and comics helped. Manga books are better than normal comics. I can and do read a 400+ novel in 2 to 3 days. Books on tape are good to.

A great site for manga is www.onemanga.com
I've spent many a day just reading my favorite series on there.
